ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Junta wants to sanction illegal tourist homes in Andalusia with up to €600,000, minimum fine of €25,000 for unregistered rentals: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Government has approved the draft Sustainable Tourism Law, replacing the 2012 regulation. The law aims to increase inspections and impose stricter penalties on illegal or clandestine tourist rental properties. Regional Minister Arturo Bernal described it as “bold and necessary,” emphasising that it reflects sector consensus, with over 1,700 contributions, and introduces “tourism policy” for the first time in 40 years.
– Tourist rentals will be formally recognised as a standard accommodation type, with fines for minor offences rising to 10,000 euros, serious offences to 100,000, clandestine operations face a minimum fine of 25,000 euros, and very serious violations up to 600,000 euros. The law also promotes sustainability, advanced tourist monitoring, simplified regulations, and public-private collaboration. {This seems kind of important, maybe the people should be given a vote to decide, rather than forcing a Junta decree upon us. They can’t manage healthcare or traffic, why should they be trusted with regulation of our homes? -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/andalucia/junta-sancionara-con-hasta-600-000-euros-las-viviendas-turisticas-ilegales-andalucia_6905736_0.html

Correos (Post Office) is ahead of the regulations and already sells connected V16 beacons throughout Spain: {Translation, summary}
– From 1 January 2026, all cars, vans and mixed-use vehicles registered in Spain must carry a connected V16 beacon approved by the DGT. This new light signal, which will replace traditional triangles.
– Since 26 November, Correos has begun selling different models of V16 beacons through its 2,380 offices, via 6,000 rural postmen and on its digital marketplace, Correos Market, to make it easier for drivers to obtain an approved device before it becomes mandatory. The initiative seeks to bring the technology to all corners of the country, especially rural areas where online purchases or access to specialised shops may be limited. According to the company, all beacons offered meet the DGT’s official requirements, including precise geolocation, an individual IMEI, automatic connection to the DGT 3.0 platform and guaranteed connectivity for at least 12 years.
**Three models available at Correos**
– Correos sells three different models, priced from 41.95 euros. All include free delivery if purchased online and hold official IDIADA certification, the mandatory identifier to verify approval.
– JBM — 41.95€. The most economical model and one of the most accessible. It has a compact, lightweight design, 24 high-visibility LEDs and a light visible from one kilometre. It includes an eSIM with 13 years of connectivity and operates on four alkaline batteries with up to three hours of autonomy. Its light indicator allows battery status checks, a key detail to ensure proper functioning.
– Pool Line Beacon Light IoT CH-009 — 48.94€. This model offers intuitive handling and incorporates a digital connectivity module that automatically sends its location to the DGT when activated. It also uses included alkaline batteries and employs narrowband technology to ensure transmission in critical situations.
– Bip&Drive — 59.90€. The high-end option. It integrates advanced IoT networks and an active data plan until January 2039. It allows the beacon to be registered on the brand’s servers and up to three phone numbers can receive an SMS confirmation when the beacon is geolocated, useful in areas with poor coverage such as tunnels or underground car parks.
– How the connected V16 beacon works. The device is placed on the highest point of the vehicle using a magnetic base or suction cups and emits a flashing light visible 360 degrees horizontally and 8 degrees vertically, even in adverse conditions such as rain, snow or fog. Driver interaction is minimal, as it can be positioned without leaving the vehicle, greatly reducing risk on fast roads.
– When activated, the beacon not only alerts other drivers visually but also sends its geolocation to the DGT every 100 seconds, integrating with platform 3.0. This information is transmitted anonymously, allowing electronic signs, GPS devices and onboard systems to warn other users of a stopped vehicle.
– Regarding fines, the DGT clarified that not carrying a V16 beacon from 2026 will incur the same penalty currently applied for not carrying triangles: 80 euros. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/sociedad/correos-adelanta-normativa-vende-balizas_0_2005362520.html

Sánchez, who’s investiture relies on accepting Junt’s blackmail, now says of his close ally, “Ábalos was a great unknown”– warns that he will not give in to blackmail of his former close ally (but giving in to the blackmail of the right-wing ‘independentistas’ Junts is ok?): {Translation, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez faces a serious political headache after the preventive detention of José Luis Ábalos, once his closest ally in both the PSOE and the Government. Since learning he could be jailed, Ábalos has tried to defend himself by releasing or encouraging leaks of politically damaging information about Sánchez. These leaks include claims about an alleged meeting with Arnaldo Otegi during the 2018 no confidence motion and suggestions about the role of Sánchez’s wife in the Air Europa bailout. The Government views these disclosures as clear attempts to place political pressure on Sánchez and to force him to intervene or publicly defend Ábalos.
– Sánchez now insists that he will not yield to attacks, threats or blackmail of any kind. This assertion, however, sharply contradicts the reality of his own investiture, which depended entirely on accepting the demands of Junts and Carles Puigdemont. His mandate was secured only after granting an amnesty and other concessions that critics describe as political extortion. By refusing to bow to Ábalos’s pressure while having conceded to Junts to stay in power, Sánchez opens himself to renewed accusations of hypocrisy from both opposition parties and his own former supporters. More Blackmail?– Moncloa steps up efforts to regain Junts’ favour and will take their measures, approved on Tuesday, to Parliament next week: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Government is again bending to the Junts. President Pedro Sánchez announced two decrees on Tuesday, addressing measures long requested by Catalan separatists on municipal finances and support for landlords, which the Council of Ministers approved within hours. Although the Government has a legal month to submit decrees to Congress, Moncloa has chosen to expedite the process, scheduling ratification for next Thursday.
– This rapid approach is unusual, as the Government typically takes several weeks to negotiate with parliamentary partners. On this occasion, it has only nine days to secure support. The schedule is constrained, with next week marking the last ordinary Congress session of the year. The following week’s plenary is suspended due to the Extremadura regional election campaign, and the subsequent two weeks coincide with the Christmas holidays, leaving no further sessions for debate or approval until the new year. ANDALUCÍA
Mammogate– SAS Resorts To Victim Blaming, Again: {Two articles, combined, summarized}
– {Funny how the gov’t says we must believe all women in sex abuse allegations, on their words alone, but they conveniently dismiss women’s claims when the Gov’t is the perpetrator, even when there is evidence of wrongdoing. -Ed.}
– The Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office of Seville closed the investigation into complaints by the Amama Association and El Defensor del Paciente regarding alleged disappearance of diagnostic tests in the Andalusian Health Service. Technical audits confirmed that data were intact, with no unauthorised access, deletion or manipulation of medical records {…despite Por Andalucía showing altered mammogram images in Parliament. This is the problem when the gov’t investigates itself. Independent investigations are needed. Claiming the images were not “forensically verified” is dodging the issue on a technicality. It is the SAS’s responsibility to disprove them, which they conveniently avoided. I smell a class action lawsuit coming, and if judged guilty, the SAS will pay the fine with public money, incurring no real penalty to themselves. FUBAR! -Ed.} They claim disruption of access to tests via ClicSalud+ in October 2025 was due solely to a surge in requests from patients overwhelming the system, with no impact on record integrity.
– Despite these findings, the SAS, led by Health Councillor Antonio Sanz, publicly accused opposition groups of irresponsibly blaming healthcare professionals for “criminal negligence” to create political scandal. Sanz highlighted that some opposition claims exaggerated the situation, such as alleging 4,000 undetected cases, claiming these were only telephone calls rather than actual data. The SAS framed the technical failure as entirely operational and shifted attention onto the complainants and political adversaries, portraying itself as a victim of false accusations.
– The Prosecutor’s closure affirmed the integrity of the medical records, but the SAS used the outcome to insist that critics must apologise, thereby deflecting responsibility and presenting the technical and operational failure as a problem caused by external misrepresentation rather than any internal flaw.

Farruquito, Marina Heredia, Manuel Lombo, Argentina and La Lupi, in the sixth edition of Flamenco in Malaga’s Soho district: {Translation}
– The Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Málaga, together with Green Cow Music, is celebrating the sixth year of its Flamenco en el Soho series, with performances by Farruquito, Marina Heredia, Manuel Lombo, Argentina, and La Lupi.
– Flamenco en el Soho is “a project created to give flamenco the recognition it deserves, especially in a year marking the 15th anniversary of its declaration as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” As announced at the season launch, artists like Farruquito (16 January), Manuel Lombo (27 March), Argentina (8 May), and the company La Lupi (9 May) will be part of the series, the theatre said in a statement.
– Joining the line-up is Granadian singer Marina Heredia, one of the standout voices of her generation. She will perform on 12 March with the show “En Libertad: El Camino de los Gitanos”, a project that “is more than just an album: it’s a deep journey into the soul and memory of a whole people.”
– Born from research and an artistic residency with the Duisburger Philharmoniker in Germany, the work “blends musical creation with historical study, turning each piece, symphonic or vocal, into a celebration of the 600th anniversary of the documented arrival of the Roma people on the Iberian Peninsula.” “Marina brings a human, bright, and thoughtful perspective, placing this history at the heart of art and today’s conversation,” they added.

Investigation into death of family of four in Torrox points to faulty gas installation:
– A family of four of Moroccan origin were found dead in their Torrox home after a carbon monoxide leak caused by a faulty switch from electric to butane gas heating. Initial Guardia Civil findings indicate an accidental leak from poor combustion in a poorly ventilated 50-square-metre house. The victims, parents and two teenage sons, appear to have died in their sleep hours before neighbours raised the alarm. The tragedy has shaken the town and its Moroccan community. Authorities urge residents to check gas installations, ensure ventilation, and use carbon monoxide detectors to prevent similar winter incidents. Photo: Eugenio Cabezas. EUROPE
EU Open to Combustion Engines Beyond 2035 Amid German Pressure, While Corporate Fleet Electrification Plans Advance: {Translation, summary}
– The European Union is considering allowing combustion engines beyond 2035 under pressure from Germany, while maintaining climate goals. Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas confirmed that the EU is “open to all technologies,” following German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s call to consider “highly efficient” fuel engines. The Commission seeks to support the European automotive industry and strengthen the European value chain, reflecting the bloc’s pragmatic approach amid geopolitical developments.
– Although post-2035 combustion engines would need to use “clean” fuels, uncertainty over availability and cost could limit consumer uptake, potentially undermining industrial revival plans. The new automotive legislative package, initially planned for 10 December, may be delayed until early January due to its complexity and significance for competitiveness. It will redefine emissions targets and introduce incentives for corporate fleet electrification. Proposals include requiring 100% electric corporate vehicles from 2030, which could restrict highly efficient combustion and hybrid engines to private use. The rental sector has strongly opposed such EU obligations. US to attack Venezuela ‘very soon’? Trump promises land strikes as fears of military conflict grow:
– Amid growing fears of US military action in Venezuela, President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed that Washington was looking to up the ante against the South American nation, promising military action “very soon”. “We’re going to start doing those strikes on land too,” Trump was quoted as saying on Tuesday by CNN during a cabinet meeting. “We know where they live. We know where the bad ones live, and we’re going to start that very soon,” the US President added.
– Trump also did not stop at Venezuela, and threatened to take military action against any country trafficking drugs into the US. “Anybody that’s doing that and selling it into our country is subject to attack,” the US President told reporters after the Cabinet meeting, speaking on the issue of cocaine coming in from Colombia.
– While the US, for several weeks now, has been carrying out strikes against alleged drug boats, military action in Venezuelan territory would mark a major escalation, potentially spiralling into a full-blown military conflict. Thus far, 83 people have been killed in 22 strikes on alleged drug boats, which Washington has labelled as a campaign to prevent the illegal flow of drugs into the US.
– Trump’s assurance on Tuesday that military action on land would start soon echoes his words from Thursday, when told service members during a Thanksgiving call that strikes on Venezuelan territory would begin “very soon”. The US President’s comment on Tuesday on launching military operations in Venezuela take on further importance, given his recent order declaring the South American country’s airspace as “closed”.
– {Say what you will about Trump, but there is no denying he is an expert with necktie knots, always “perfect”, unlike our used-car-salesmen looking Spanish politicians. -Ed.}

Some of the best honey of the chestnut and anise varieties is made in the Genal Valley: {Translation}
– The honeys of the Serranía de Ronda are renowned for their quality and, once again, one of them has won an important award. Specifically, a production from Los Castañares was chosen as the best at the international competition held in Las Hurdes, one of the most prestigious events in the sector. It is a single-variety chestnut honey produced by the bees of Juan Galindo in the Valle del Genal.
– Additionally, another of his productions received a runner-up prize at Expomiel Córdoba, another highly recognised competition and one of the most important in Andalucía. In this case, it was a single-variety aniseed (matalahúva) honey. These two recognitions came almost consecutively this past November.
– Juan Galindo has stated that these awards represent an “impetus” to continue working and to raise awareness of the importance of bees for life on the planet. He currently manages around 200 hives but hopes to reach between 400 and 500. “With that number, you can earn a small income,” he noted. Production per hive in the area is low, typically around 5 kilos per year.
– Beyond his method and bees, Galindo attributes the success of his honeys to the unique configuration of the Valle del Genal, with highly varied vegetation spread across mountain areas, water zones, and valleys. Due to the small production, their different honeys sell out quickly, so those wishing to purchase them should not hesitate.
– Furthermore, to promote the biodiversity of the area and the importance of bees, they have started offering experiences including hive visits, tastings, lunch, and a tour of the Valle del Genal. Info tel: 669861868. FB Link
