ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 48
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

SPAIN
Historic decision– The UER (aka EBU) decides to include Israel in Eurovision 2026 and Spain officially withdraws: {Translation, summary}
– Israel will participate in Eurovision 2026 in Vienna after the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) approved reforms intended to reinforce neutrality and allow all countries to take part. A large majority of members voted in favour of the new guarantees, and the organisation decided not to hold a specific vote on whether Israel should be admitted. Spain, which had already pledged to boycott the contest if Israel participated, confirmed its withdrawal and will not broadcast the event. RTVE said the EBU’s refusal to allow a separate vote deepened its mistrust and showed the political pressures surrounding the contest.
– During the Assembly, Spain argued that the measures adopted by the EBU were insufficient and raised concerns about Israel’s use of Eurovision for political purposes, the situation in Gaza, voting manipulation and the lack of sanctions. RTVE insisted that neutrality and transparency are essential. Spain’s stance had been established since September, when its governing body approved withdrawal if Israel competed. Morocco obtains from Sánchez a new endorsement of its plan for the Sahara: {Translation, summary}
– Spain and Morocco have issued a 23 page joint declaration that deepens Spain’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, first endorsed by Madrid in April 2022. The eighth point of the document confirms that Spain welcomes UN Security Council Resolution 2797 of 2025, which supports negotiations based on Morocco’s autonomy proposal and highlights that real autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could be the most feasible solution.
– The summit was marked by a lack of transparency, with no press briefing or questions allowed, prompting criticism from the Press Association. Sumar publicly rejected Sánchez’s approach and reaffirmed its support for a Sahrawi referendum.
– Economically, both countries agreed to expand cooperation in infrastructure, energy, logistics and investment, including a new High Commission for Industrial Cooperation and joint work on renewables, green hydrogen and critical minerals. The declaration also stresses cooperation on irregular migration, praising Morocco’s role and pledging stronger joint action. Mutiny in Moncloa? Second vice-president of the government, Yolanda Díaz (communist SUMAR), contradicts Sanchez policy on Western Sahara: {Translation}
– The Second Vice-President of the Government, Yolanda Díaz {pic}, has called for a ‘Free Sahara’ coinciding with the bilateral summit with Morocco held at the Moncloa Palace, which none of the Sumar ministers attended.
– In a video posted on Instagram, Díaz read a poem by Sahrawi poet Lima Boisha and, after referring to the 13th High Level Meeting (RAN) attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Moroccan Prime Minister, Aziz Ajanuch, she sent a strong message.
– ‘Let’s be clear: we will not give up a single centimetre of Sahrawi land. Today and always, long live a free Sahara,’ proclaimed the second vice-president, in line with her party’s position rejecting Sánchez’s March 2022 endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara. Parliament ‘censures’ Marlaska for his ‘ ‘indolent attitude’ towards drug trafficking, with votes from PP-A and Vox: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Parliament has approved a PP A proposal censuring Interior Minister Fernando Grande Marlaska {pic} for what it describes as his negligent approach to tackling drug trafficking. PSOE A voted against the censure, Vox supported it and Por Andalucía and Adelante Andalucía abstained. The motion accuses the minister of breaching commitments to police forces, abandoning officers institutionally and overseeing a deterioration in public safety, especially in high risk areas such as the Campo de Gibraltar, Almería and Seville.
– Parliament also criticises the Government’s lack of cooperation in the investigation into the killing of two Civil Guard officers in Barbate. The initiative calls for stronger national action against drug trafficking, tougher laws on fuel suppliers known as petaqueros, and the reinstatement of specialised anti drug units like OCON Sur. It also demands better staffing, modern equipment, improved legal protections and recognition of National Police and Civil Guard roles as at risk professions with fair pay and retirement conditions. MALAGA CITY
Christmas in Malaga– Constant video surveillance, no drinking, no noise, no loud music, no singing, no firecrackers, no fun: {Translation, summary}
– Malaga has issued its annual Christmas and New Year proclamation, reminding residents and visitors of the rules intended to ensure peaceful and safe celebrations in a crowded city centre. The mayor stresses respect for public space, including a strict ban on graffiti except for authorised artworks. Pyrotechnics are tightly controlled under Royal Decree 989/2015, with a reminder that street sales are illegal and that noise can distress people with sensory sensitivities and domestic animals.
– Noisy activities such as singing or loud music in public streets are banned, with Local Police empowered to intervene. Street drinking is prohibited except on licensed terraces, and alcohol consumption by minors is forbidden. Large events must obtain authorisation and ensure post event cleaning. The city recommends using public transport and limits loading and unloading in the centre to the mornings of 24 and 31 December. Civil Protection will provide special emergency support. The proclamation closes with an appeal for responsible behaviour and reliable information. EUROPE
EU Pushing Frankenfoods:
– The EU has agreed allow certain foods altered using genetic engineering techniques to be sold without special labelling under a new framework. The rules distinguish between NGTs and GMOs.
– New genomic techniques, such as gene editing, are breeding methods used to change a small part of the genetic material of an animal, plant or microbes (such as yeast or bacteria). They don’t require the insertion of foreign genetic material, or DNA, from another species. This makes them different to older techniques used to create genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which involve inserting foreign genetic material into an organism to create a hybrid.
– Critics are concerned about possible long-term environmental and health hazards. Others insist consumers should retain the right to choose whether to eat gene-edited foods.
– The agreement must still be endorsed by the parliament and member states in second reading, a step usually considered a formality after such negotiations. Full article: https://www.dw.com/en/eu-agrees-to-relax-regulations-around-gene-edited-crops/a-75008573
GASTRONOMIA
The trick that Ángel León learned from a fisherman to scale a fish without using a peeler or knife: {Translation, summary}
– If there is one chef in Spain who is considered a living encyclopaedia on the world of the sea and everything related to seafood cuisine, it is Ángel León. The chef at the three Michelin-starred Aponiente restaurant in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) is a leading figure in the sector. In addition to having created well-known recipes such as sea ham, he shares cooking tips whenever he gets the chance to make our lives easier in the kitchen.
– “The logical thing would have been to have taken the back of the knife and peeled it,” says León, adding that “I find it curious that with a grater the scales can be removed.”
– Normally, a grater offers several types of textures, and León recommends using the one with the largest holes. How do you carry out the method? León suggests running that part of the tool ‘against the scales’ and noticing how clean the product remains, as if we had used a conventional peeler. ‘Fish perfectly scaled with a grater, there you have that little trick,’ he concludes. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/gastronomia/productos/truco-que-angel-leon-aprendio-un-pescador-para-desescamar-un-pescado-sin-usar-pelador-ni-cuchillo_6900374_0.html & Video Link
HEALTH
Trade unions call for indefinite strike by all healthcare workers and accuse the minister of ‘hindering’ the Framework Statute agreement: {Translation, summary}
– Several major unions representing healthcare staff have called an indefinite strike from 27 January, to be held every Tuesday, after the Ministry of Health refused to agree to a new Framework Statute to improve working conditions in the National Health System. Medical unions CESM and SMA have already announced separate strikes for 9 to 12 December.
– The unions argue that the Ministry has stalled negotiations, held parallel talks with other groups and ignored the 10,000 professionals who protested in October. They accuse the minister, Monica García, of overstating progress by claiming that more than 99 per cent of the text is agreed. The Ministry replies that the draft cannot go further without exceeding its legal powers and highlights provisions such as a 45 hour weekly limit, two year employment offers, regulated staffing and protection for older or pregnant staff. Doctors are demanding their own negotiation forum, a bespoke statute, fair pay, improved retirement options and a 35 hour week. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/nacional/…

OBITUARIES
RIP Steve Cropper: The Blues Brothers, Booker T. & the MG’s and Stax Records Guitarist, Dead at 84:
– Steve Cropper, a founding member of Booker T. & the M.G.’s whose distinctive funky guitar licks graced R&B and soul hits from the iconic Stax Records label and on tracks performed by The Blues Brothers, has died. He was 84.
– The Associated Press reported that Cooper died on Wednesday in Nashville, a cause of death was not immediately known. He had recently been in rehab after a fall, say friends.
– Cropper, who backed such artists as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas & Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor and produced many of their records, was ranked No. 45 on Rolling Stone’s list of “The 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” in 2023. “Think of the introduction to Sam & Dave’s ‘Soul Man,’ the explosive bent notes in Booker T.’s ‘Green Onions’ or the filigreed guitar fills in Redding’s ‘(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay’ — they all bear Cropper’s signature sound, the quintessence of soul guitar,” Douglas Wolk wrote. In 1996, Britain’s Mojo magazine called him the “the greatest living guitar player.”
– Cropper, who used a 1956 Fender Esquire and later a blonde Fender Telecaster on many of the early Stax recordings, in 1969 earned the first of his two career Grammys for “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay, which he co-wrote with Redding. He was mixing the song within days of the funeral for the singer, who died in a plane crash in Wisconsin in December 1967. Cropper also teamed with performers Wilson Pickett and Eddie Floyd to co-write their hits “In the Midnight Hour” and “Knock on Wood,” respectively.

Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport. 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, neutered and passport. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
