ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 54
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Supreme Court confirms ex-Attorney General García Ortiz’s guilt, no jail time, only disqualification & fines: {Translation, summary}
– The judgement of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court against Álvaro García Ortiz concludes that He or “someone in his environment,” with his knowledge, leaked the email in which the lawyer for Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s partner acknowledged that his client committed two crimes of tax fraud. And in addition, the court also bases the conviction on the publication of the press release issued later by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in which this information was collected, already published in the media.
– He is sentenced to disqualification for a period of two years from holding the position of Attorney General of the State, a fine of twelve months with a daily fee of 20 euros and the payment of the procedural costs, including those of Alberto González Amador. It is also agreed that García Ortiz compensates Ayuso’s partner with 10,000 euros for moral damages.
– On the other hand, the Supreme Court has acquitted García Ortiz of the rest of the crimes that are the subject of the accusation. And it points out that the objects seized in the searches carried out in the case will be returned to their owners, or where appropriate, destroyed. It is a much lower penalty than the prosecution requested, who demanded up to 12 years of disqualification and six years in prison.

Junts Demanded It & Sanchez Delivers– Government approves a guarantee to cover non-payments to landlords who rent to young and vulnerable people– Many rental units will not qualify: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Government has approved a royal decree creating a rental coverage scheme for landlords leasing to young people and vulnerable individuals. Managed by autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, the coverage aims to ease access to housing for these groups. Landlords must meet conditions such as renting to tenants under 35 or vulnerable individuals, charging rent below the national reference index, depositing the legal rental bond, and signing the approved rental guarantee agreement. Autonomous communities may set additional criteria. The coverage compensates for unpaid rent, property damage, and utility costs, and beneficiaries must be current with taxes and social security obligations. The scheme will apply to contracts active on 30 January 2025, with semi-annual reporting to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda. Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez emphasised that the measure provides guarantees and counters fear-driven narratives, while Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez highlighted the decree includes funding to protect landlords, responding to requests from Junts.
– See criticism of this measure in following article.

Alquiler Seguro says that the guarantee against rental non-payments is “ineffective” and does not benefit the majority of owners: {Translation, summary}
– Alquiler Seguro has sharply criticised the new public rental guarantee approved by the Council of Ministers, calling it “ineffective” and unhelpful for most landlords. The scheme excludes rentals to tenants over 35 or those not classified as vulnerable, and does not cover contracts exceeding the national rent reference index, which applies to the majority of leases. CEO David Caraballo argued that these limitations render the measure practically useless, leaving landlords unprotected while eviction protections favour tenants. Only landlords charging below the reference index are eligible, and the scheme applies solely to contracts active on 30 January 2025.
– Caraballo further questioned the practical application if tenants refuse to sign the guarantee, describing the policy as inequitable and further tipping the balance in favour of tenants. He concluded that while tenant protections are universal, landlords deserve equivalent coverage, warning that forcing them to bear social policy costs is “a serious irresponsibility”. ANDALUCÍA
Junta de Andalucía accused of abandoning food aid to the vulnerable for over a year– Junta’s new ‘benefit card’ program a dismal failure: {Translation, summary}
– Social organisations in Málaga accuse the Junta de Andalucía of leaving the province without any FEGA/FSE+ food aid for the whole of 2025. They argue that the Junta assumed full responsibility for the programme but has neither launched it nor transferred a single euro, despite repeated meetings with senior officials. As a result, no families are receiving support, including those who meet the criteria of the Junta’s own model. Groups warn that inflation is worsening hardship while the administration remains inactive.
– They stress that Málaga already has an established and proven system of municipal social food stores that ensure dignified and efficient distribution. Yet the Junta’s refusal to release funds prevents these centres from operating at full capacity. Critics say the prepaid card model imposed by regional and national authorities excludes many vulnerable people, such as older adults and workers on low incomes. They conclude that the crisis stems not from a lack of capacity in Málaga but from a lack of political will, empathy and timely action by the Junta. USA
Trump calls Europe ‘decaying’ and ‘weak’ in sharp new attack on US allies:
– US President Donald Trump has blasted Europe as “decaying” and “weak” on immigration, deepening tensions between Washington and some of its closest allies. Speaking to Politico in an interview published on Tuesday, Trump repeated extraordinary criticism of top US partners, echoing rhetoric that appeared in his administration’s new national security strategy last week. That document warned of European “civilizational erasure” and called for “cultivating resistance” to migration policies across the continent.
– “Most European nations they’re decaying,” Trump said in the interview conducted on Monday. He described Europe’s approach to migrants as a “disaster,” adding: “They want to be politically correct, and it makes them weak. That’s what makes them weak.” He went on to claim there were “some real stupid ones” among Europe’s leaders. Trump also criticised European countries over Ukraine, amid growing differences with Washington about the US plan to end the war. Full article: https://www.trtworld.com/article/c2834067fcc4

The latest from PuroSushi, Marbella’s most clandestine restaurant: {Translation, summary}
– Omakase: chef decides everything, structured experience, sit at counter where chef works, 140 to 230 euros.
– À la carte: customer chooses from menu items, flexible and relaxed, table seating, price varies by order.
– Purosushi, the discreet restaurant led by Andrés Médici within Marbella’s Puente Romano hotel, has expanded its offer beyond its renowned omakase counter. While the traditional counter experience places the chef fully in control, preparing dishes according to market and season, Médici recognises that many diners prefer to choose their own dishes rather than follow a fixed menu or sit at a strict service. To welcome this wider audience, he has launched the Lounge, a small dining room with several tables that offers roughly ten dishes which change daily. The menu features sashimi, nigiri and other special preparations such as kobujime mackerel. The aim is to maintain the quality of Purosushi while creating a more relaxed and flexible environment. Médici also plans more accessible prices, a restructured wine list and an expanded sake selection. His goal is to make the experience comfortable and open to all without any sense of obligation. Bypass Your Amazon Fire TV Stick Piracy Ban and See What Happens Next:
– After enjoying years of relative freedom to do whatever they liked with their Amazon Fire TV Sticks, last month users were informed that apps linked to piracy would be blocked, banned, or even deleted moving forward. With alerts now appearing on users’ devices relating to one app in particular (BeeTV, more soon to follow), it transpires that bypassing Amazon’s restrictions is really easy, at least for now, just one click. The bigger question being asked right now is this: what happens when you do click the “Launch Anyway” button?
– Using the BeeTV IPTV app as an example, aside from launching at boot and the ability to install additional software, the app can harvest personal information, obtain information on contacts, and the content of their messages on the device. It can intercept communications, manipulate device behavior, and track movements and activities in real-time, while recording locations (home, workplace, gym) and times.

The women of the Andalusian PSOE mobilise against sexual harassment– “Not a single unanswered aggression”: {Translation, summary}
– {Of course, violence shouldn’t be excused. Yet one wonders where the line is drawn between flirting and harassment. Will a suggestive Valentine’s Day Card be enough harassment for the sender to be brought up on charges? We’ve already seen bosses paying civil awards, not for touching, but simply making suggestive or lewd comments to employees. Soon dating apps may be the only safe way to approach potential mates, and work sites may need to be segregated by sex to avoid endless litigation. Ain’t progress great? -Ed.}
– Around 300 women from the PSOE of Málaga have endorsed a manifesto issued by the party’s Secretariat for Equality after a Torremolinos member reported the local Secretary General for alleged sexual harassment. The document expresses an absolute rejection of any form of harassment, violence or sexist behaviour, and offers firm and sisterly support to the woman who filed the complaint. It has been signed by long standing socialist figures in Málaga, mayors, national and regional parliamentarians, provincial deputies, councillors and prominent feminists, as well as members from every district of the province.
– The manifesto also extends solidarity to any woman who may face a similar situation, acknowledging the emotional and political cost of speaking out. The signatories demand strict and sensitive application of internal protocols and support the Federal Executive’s precautionary suspension of the accused. They call for a PSOE that protects complainants, rejects all violence, and upholds its feminist principles through concrete action. December Geminids: When is the best time to enjoy them and tips for observing them: {Translation, summary, I posted the Spanish article as it contains localized info}
– The Geminid meteor shower will peak during the night of 13 December, with the best viewing between 01:00 and 03:00 (Canary Islands time), before dawn obscures the display. Brighter, slower, and often coloured yellow to green, the Geminids can outshine the Perseids meteor shower, with up to 150 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.
– Unlike most meteor showers, the Geminids originate from the asteroid (3200) Phaethon, a 5–6 km hybrid asteroid comet whose orbit near the Sun releases dust and small fragments along its path. Each December, Earth passes through this trail, generating the spectacular display. The Moon, in its last quarter, will rise only around 03:00, causing minimal interference. Observers are advised to find dark locations free of light pollution and view with the naked eye. Telescopes are unnecessary, but warm clothing and a few minutes for eyes to adjust to the dark will enhance the experience. Phaethon poses no collision risk for centuries.
