ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –

DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.

#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com

Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 68

Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

Hello Digamites: I don´t usually meddle with other people´s business, but after reading about how hard Naythan has to work in order to bring us reliable news, I feel like appealing to your goodwill and generosity.
We are all going to spend a fair amount of money on drinks and food for Christmas, wouldn´t it be a nice gesture to think of him and support him financially?
He is not asking for much, a subscription to any newspaper would cost you much more, and you might not get the same objectivity, so could we please make an effort, and show him our appreciation?
Thank you, and have a wonderful Christmas,

SPAIN

Let’s give them 15 months to clean up their tracks before we investigate– The judge orders the forced seizure of the mobile phones of the Mossos investigated for Puigdemont’s escape 15 months ago: {Translation, summary}
– Barcelona magistrate María Antonia Coscollola has ordered the forced seizure of mobile phones from three Mossos d’Esquadra – David Goicoechea, Xavier Manso and Jordi Rodrigo – under investigation for allegedly helping Carles Puigdemont evade arrest during his brief visit to Spain in August 2024. The inquiry aims to determine whether the officers coordinated with the former president between 8 July and 9 August 2024 to circumvent the Supreme Court warrant issued by Pablo Llarena.
– The measure, requested by Catalan Police Internal Affairs and supported by the Public Prosecutor, authorises the collection, analysis and study of communications from seven phones, including calls, SMS and messaging apps. The magistrate deemed the action necessary and proportionate, with no less intrusive alternatives, covering a period from one month before to one day after the events. Authorities warned that the officers could have used other devices or performed resets to erase data, making the seized phones crucial for recovering potential evidence. Pedro’s Alternate Reality– Sánchez refutes Sumar demands and claims that the rise of Vox is not because of government policies, but because of the PP sanitizing Vox’s image: {Translation, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez rejected calls from Yolanda Díaz and Sumar for a cabinet reshuffle and deep government changes to curb Vox’s rise, insisting that it is the PP and right-wing media that fuel far-right growth. Speaking at the European Council, Sánchez addressed demands following Socialist corruption and sexual harassment cases. He confirmed there would be no government crisis, only specific changes, such as replacing Pilar Alegría as Education Minister due to her Aragon candidacy.
– Despite differences between coalition partners, he highlighted shared goals, notably a reform roadmap extending to 2027 and ongoing negotiations to raise the minimum wage.
– Responding to Sumar’s claims, Sánchez argued that the far-right surge stems from the PP’s “whitewashing” of Vox and the adoption of far-right political styles, contrasting this with the Communist Party’s historical role in Spain’s democratization. He criticised Spain’s destructive opposition and concluded that government actions are not responsible for the far-right’s growth. AXARQUÍA

What about the Axarquía desalination plant? These are the keys: {Translation, summary}
– The Axarquía desalination plant continues to face delays, with responsibility currently resting with Axaragua and the irrigators, who have formed a single entity to manage the future infrastructure. The plant is considered essential to reinforce water security, but it is not intended to replace existing sources. It is planned to supply 12 hm3 per year for urban consumption and a further 12 hm3 for agricultural use, within a broader system that also includes the La Viñuela reservoir, the Chíllar wells, transfers from Málaga, and reclaimed water.
– Although the location has now been fixed at Las Campiñuelas in Vélez, progress remains blocked because the preliminary project has not yet been completed, particularly due to technical and energy supply issues. Until this document is finalised, Acuamed cannot begin administrative procedures. The plant is classified as a work of general interest, with an estimated cost of 100 million euros, financed and promoted by the state company. It will initially have a capacity of 25 hm3 per year, with provision for future expansion, and users will repay the investment over fifty years. MALAGA PROVINCE

Aemet warns that it could snow at a lower altitude in Malaga next week: {Translation, summary}
– Storm Emilia brought rare snowfall to some of the highest points in Málaga province, including La Maroma in the Axarquía. After a brief period of stable weather, new fronts are expected, with rain and falling temperatures increasing the likelihood of snow returning to inland areas.
– Snow levels on Friday will be around 1,800 to 1,900 metres, descending to 1,500 metres by Sunday, which could see snow on high points such as El Torcal, with La Maroma potentially experiencing snow near Christmas Eve.
– Rainfall is forecast from Friday onwards in the Axarquía, with Comares projected to receive up to 6 litres per square metre, Colmenar 4.8 mm, and Cómpeta up to 10 mm early on Saturday. Rain is expected to intensify on Sunday, with a 100% chance across the region. The start of next week will be colder than usual, with multiple storms predicted, making for an unsettled lead-up to Christmas. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Vélez-Málaga grows after the pandemic and approaches 90,000 inhabitants: {Translation, summary}
– According to official figures, Vélez-Málaga has gone from 82,972 inhabitants in 2021 to 87,798 in 2025, which represents an increase in 4,826 people in just four years. A continuous rise, without sudden jumps or setbacks, which speaks of stability, attractiveness and real dynamism. Year after year, the municipality has been adding population: 84,815 in 2022, 86,364 in 2023, 87,300 in 2024 and the most recent data from 2025 that confirms the upward trend.

ESTEPONA

Another scandal for the mayor of Estepona- investigated for awarding the restaurant of the viewpoint to his son’s partner: {Translation, summary}
– José María García Urbano, mayor of Estepona, faces more scandal. In addition to an ongoing embezzlement investigation, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is examining possible malfeasance and influence peddling over the awarding of the Torre Mirador seafront restaurant to a company linked to his family. The PSOE has demanded his resignation, arguing that Estepona deserves a clean, transparent government and condemning the repeated judicial cases surrounding him. Councillor Ana María Velasco and four municipal technicians are also implicated. This controversy adds to a separate investigation into alleged embezzlement involving the hiring of a woman with whom García Urbano allegedly had a relationship, for a role she did not perform. Recent explicit WhatsApp messages between the parties have emerged, intensifying public scrutiny. A man from Malaga arrested for stabbing a woman 480 times in Sevilla: {Translation}
– A man from Malaga has been arrested for the brutal murder of Ana Isabel, a 44-year-old woman who was found with hundreds of incised wounds inside her home, in the Sevillian town of La Algaba. The arrested man is named David, he is 31 years old and is a native of Alhaurín de la Torre, as confirmed by sources close to the investigation, who highlighted the cruelty of the crime judging by the stab wounds that the woman received.
– The victim, who had two children and was a much-loved person in the Sevillian town, was located inside the house and, according to Diario de Sevilla, had 480 wounds and several bruises.
– The young man, who acknowledged the facts and stated that he was under the influence of drugs, occupied a room in the house, which she had previously rented to him. EUROPE

Farmers block roads in Brussels to protest South American free-trade deal:
– Farmers in tractors blocked roads, threw potatoes and eggs, and set off fireworks in Brussels on Wednesday outside a European Union leaders’ summit, prompting police to respond with tear gas and water cannons as protesters rallied against a major free-trade deal with South American nations. Farmers fear that the deal will undercut their livelihoods, and there are broader political concerns that it could also help drive support for the far right.
– Thousands of farmers are also expected at twin rallies planned by farmers’ unions that are set to converge on Place Luxembourg, a stone’s throw from the European Parliament and the Europa Building where leaders of the 27 EU nations are meeting. They are to discuss amending the trade pact or delaying its signing. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/mercosur-brussels-farmers-tractors-88b455dcf234d9a36c6eac675a47e8e0

UKRAINE WAR

Hungarian prime minister says seizing Russian assets would drag EU into war:
– Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán {pic} on Thursday warned the European Union against taking steps that, in his view, would amount to “marching into the war”, as he voiced opposition to proposals to seize frozen Russian assets and channel the funds to Ukraine. Speaking to reporters ahead of an EU Council meeting, Orbán said he did not want the European Union to become a party to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “I would not like to see a European Union at war. To give money means war,” he said. “I am looking for peace. What we should be doing is taking steps towards peace, not towards war.”
– Orbán questioned calls for additional security guarantees and financial measures targeting Russia, arguing that such actions would escalate the conflict rather than help resolve it.
“More guarantees? For what?” he asked. “The whole idea is a stupid one, to take away somebody else’s money.”
– He stressed that the conflict does not directly involve the EU. “There are two countries at war. It is not the European Union. They are Russia and Ukraine,” he said. Orbán also criticised proposals to confiscate assets from one side of the conflict and transfer them to the other, warning that this would draw the bloc deeper into the war.
– The European Commission has proposed using frozen Russian assets to provide Ukraine with additional financial and military support through loans in the coming years. Belgium has raised concerns about the plan, citing potential legal and financial risks should Russia demand the return of the assets. UK

UK to Abramovich– Hand Over Chelsea Billions to Ukraine or Face Court:
– British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich must finally follow through on his pledge to donate the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club to humanitarian causes linked to Ukraine, or face legal action by the UK government.
– Speaking in the House of Commons on December 17, Starmer said time was running out for Abramovich to transfer the £2.5 billion from the 2022 sale of the club, stressing that the commitment made at the time of the transaction must now be honoured. He underlined that the UK is prepared to take the matter to court to ensure the money reaches people affected by Russia’s war in Ukraine.
– Abramovich sold Chelsea after being sanctioned by the UK following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, due to his close ties to the Kremlin. The British authorities approved the sale only after he gave assurances that he would not benefit personally and that the funds would be used “for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.”
– Despite that promise, the money has remained frozen in a UK bank account for nearly three years. The stalemate has been caused by disagreements over how the funds should be distributed, with the British government insisting that the entire sum must be directed exclusively to humanitarian efforts inside Ukraine. CANADA

67% Of Canadians Say Cost Of Living In Their Region Is Worst They’ve Seen:
– An Abacus Data poll found that 67 percent of the 1,500 people surveyed earlier this month said the cost of living in their area is the worst they can ever remember it being. Another 21 percent say the cost of living is bad where they live, although they can recall periods when it was even more challenging. Only 11 percent say the cost of living is not bad, the survey said.
– Canadians polled also said the cost of living should be the federal government’s top priority. Sixty-two percent of people polled identified it as one of their top three issues compared to health care at 40 percent, and economic growth at 34 percent. Housing affordability was fourth on the list at 25 percent, followed by immigration and the Canada-U.S. trade relationship at 24 percent. USA

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirms he will be leaving the agency in January:
– In a post on X, Bongino thanked President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel for giving him “the opportunity to serve with purpose.” “I will be leaving my position with the FBI in January,” Bongino wrote in his post. “I want to thank President Trump, AG Bondi, and Director Patel for the opportunity to serve with purpose.” “Most importantly, I want to thank you, my fellow Americans, for the privilege to serve you,” Bongino added. “God bless America, and all those who defend Her.”

AUSTRALIA

Armed cops swoop on men heading to Bondi Beach over fears they planned ‘violent act’ days after terrorist attack:
– Heavily armed Australian police arrested seven men in Sydney on Thursday after receiving intelligence that a “violent act” may have been planned, days after a deadly attack at a Hanukkah event in Bondi Beach that left 15 people dead. The suspects were intercepted in two cars with out-of-state plates in Sydney’s south-west. Dramatic footage showed SWAT officers ramming a vehicle, detaining five bloodied men, and later arresting two more from a nearby car. Police reportedly recovered a weapon, though investigators have not detailed the suspects’ alleged plans.
– Authorities emphasised that there is no known link between these arrests and the recent Bondi terror attack. That massacre was carried out by Sajid Akram, 50, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram, who targeted Jews celebrating Hanukkah. Sajid was killed by police, while Naveed survived, and has been charged with 59 offenses, including 15 counts of murder, after recovering in hospital.

WORLD

Russia Deploys Entire Fleet Of Nuclear Icebreakers To Arctic:
– Russia has deployed all eight of its nuclear icebreakers simultaneously in an unprecedented move. The fleet is being used to keep critical winter shipping lanes in the Gulf of Ob and the Yenisei Gulf open, ensuring continued access to key export terminals. The deployment sends a clear signal to the West that Russia can sustain year-round Arctic shipping and maintain its natural resource export revenues.
– Ship tracking website MarineTraffic reported earlier this week: “Russia deploys all eight nuclear icebreakers to keep Arctic export routes open. Russia has, for the first time, deployed its entire fleet of eight nuclear-powered icebreakers simultaneously to maintain winter navigation in the Gulf of Ob and the Yenisei Gulf. #MarineTraffic data shows that the nuclear icebreakers Taymyr, Yamal, Arktika, Yakutiya, Sibir, and 50 Let Pobedy have been operating in the Gulf of Ob since December 14, supporting traffic linked to Arctic Gate, Yamal LNG, and other terminals. Meanwhile, Ural and Vaygach are deployed in the Yenisei Gulf, enabling access to ports and industrial sites deep inside Siberia.” X Post

SPORTS

Darts News- Darts player creates a buzz by bringing insect spray onto the stage at Worlds:
– Wasps are causing mayhem on the stage at the world darts championship, so one player came prepared to deal with them.
– After walking onto the stage ahead of his first-round match on Tuesday, Jurjen van der Velde created a bit of a buzz by pulling out insect repellent from his pocket and started spraying the air around him and then himself — much to the amusement of the crowd at Alexandra Palace in north London. Van der Velde was seen wiping his face with a cloth ahead of the game, with tournament organizer the Professional Darts Corporation questioning on X whether the Dutchman was “emotional or has sprayed bug spray in his eyes.”

– Tejeringos Los Exagerados in Málaga is known for the city’s most “exaggerated” and “beastly” pitufos, sandwiches so loaded they can exceed one kilogram. The original bar opened in El Palo on Calle Aguilar y Cano 1 and has expanded to Carretera de Cádiz on Calle Luis Barahona de Soto.
– The menu includes El Sobrado with sobrasada, caramelised onion, and melted cheese (€3.50); El Cochinito with lettuce, tomato, pork fillet, cheese, bacon, ham, and egg (€4.00); Pitufo Asadito with roast chicken, roast pork, cheese, and house sauce (€4.00); and the most popular, El Exagerado, featuring roast meat, Spanish omelette, bacon, cheese, and house sauce (€4.00). Use the beacon, but keep the triangles & vests– Firefighter’s viral video warns motorists of risks of new V-16 beacon:
– In recent days, various security personnel have been warning of the risks associated with this new device. The latest to go viral has been Valencian firefighter Edi Díaz, known for his informative videos on TikTok. His latest video talks about the V-16 beacon. “Never forget to carry your triangles,” he said in the video, shared more than 8,500 times and liked more than 107,000 times.
– The video was uploaded from the scene of a road traffic accident, on a bend, with the vehicle overturned. Díaz addressed his more than 33,300 followers on Instagram, saying: “Look what we’ve just been called to: an accident in the middle of a bend, with a car overturned on its side. Tell me where to place the new beacon. My opinion as a professional is that it will not be visible on the crest of a road, or a bend or in daylight. Either we signpost the incident well 50 metres in advance or we are going to be in trouble when other vehicles can’t slow down in time. Don’t forget to carry your triangles. Nothing more to say.”

– BEACON V16 Cons…
* In the curves they will NOT see you.
* Neither in the changes of grade.
* Very limited daytime visibility.
* In an accident (collapsed structure) or over a side rollover or on the roof, tell me where you place this light so that you can be seen?
* In a vehicle fire, do not approach the vehicle or try to place it on the fire. It is very dangerous and it is also useless.
* If you drop it or hit it, the light can break and then it is worthless.
* Limited battery.
– TRIANGLES
* In curves.
* In changes of grade.
* They always work.
* Daytime with light.
* In accidents, rollovers or on roofs.
* In fires.
* They do not spoil.
* No battery drain.
And they also SEE YOU IN ADVANCE
You know, in January…
DON’T FORGET THE TRIANGLES
When you use triangles, remember to put on your reflective vest and signal just 50 meters (50 long steps). Video Link

SPACE

No, it’s not a UFO– Interstellar visitor to our solar system, 3I/ATLAS, set to be closest to Earth on 19 December:
– An interstellar comet named 3I/ATLAS is set to pass through its nearest point to the Earth on its journey on Friday, 19 December. On that day, it will be at an approximate distance of 170 million miles from the Earth and will be visible through binoculars and telescopes.
– According to Smithsonian Magazine’s website, the comet’s closest approach to our planet would place it at a distance which is twice that of the Earth from the Sun. 31/ATLAS is a special visitor to our solar system as it is only the third recorded interstellar object to visit this part of the universe. The other two comets that belong to this category are 1I/’Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov. However, scientists are yet to figure out the star system from which this comet originated.
– As per NASA’s website, on 19 December, the best way to view the interstellar object is by looking in the east to northeast direction in the pre-dawn hours. The comet would be situated under Regulus, a star in the centre of the Leo constellation. The telescope required to best view 3I/ATLAS needs to have an aperture of at least 30 centimetres. Avid stargazers can catch a glimpse of 3I/ATLAS on Friday by taking a peek at the predawn sky through a powerful pair of binoculars or backyard telescope, according to NASA. At that time, it should look like a glowing star in the east to northeast. It will appear underneath Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo. If you’d rather not wait out in the cold or have crummy viewing conditions, you can follow along online through a livestream hosted by the Virtual Telescope Project, starting at 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, December 18, weather permitting.
– This latest visitor to our solar system was discovered in July. According to Space.com, some people started circulating the rumour that the comet is actually an alien spacecraft. With the government being in shutdown at the time, NASA could not immediately provide clarity.
– However, in November, the space agency held a press conference and shared several important details. “We very much want to find signs of life in the universe,” NASA associate administrator Amit Kshatriya quipped during the press briefing. “But 3I/ATLAS is a comet.” The agency also shared pictures of the comet and observations made through more than 20 missions across the solar system. These conclusively proved, as per NASA, that it was, indeed, a comet. PETS

Saying goodbye to your pet at home- home euthanasia, the new alternative born in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– For many years, pets’ end-of-life care took place almost exclusively in veterinary clinics, often in brief, cold and unfamiliar circumstances. However, families increasingly seek to say goodbye at home, valuing calm, time, and closeness.
– In Málaga, this trend has led to the creation of After Life Vets [ https://afterlifevets.es/en/home/ ], a specialised at-home euthanasia service founded in 2022 by Álvaro Narváez Godoy after experiencing the practice in the United Kingdom. Since its launch, the service has supported over 500 families, with demand steadily growing.
– The protocol begins with deep sedation to ensure the animal is relaxed and accompanied by its family before the final procedure, with each step clearly explained. Families describe the process as more serene than clinic farewells, allowing grief to be experienced more gently. The expansion of such services reflects a broader cultural shift in which pets are increasingly considered family members, alongside other Málaga initiatives like the first animal cemetery and a dog hotel. Jane’s Addiction officially breaks up after explosive onstage fight involving Dave Navarro, Perry Farrell:
– Jane’s Addiction is no more. The popular alt-rock band announced that they were officially breaking up on Wednesday, more than one year after frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro got into an explosive altercation during a concert in Boston last September. “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret,” the “Been Caught Stealing” rockers wrote on Instagram.
