ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 111
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

SPAIN
The big problem with V16 beacons that no one talks about- what will happen when the heat arrives in Spain?: {Translation, summary}
– V16 beacons became mandatory in 2026 to replace emergency triangles, but a key concern is their performance under extreme heat conditions increasingly common in Spain. Problems have already been reported and the issue has reached the Madrid Assembly, where VOX will seek to suspend the obligation until independent studies prove their effectiveness in poor visibility and adverse weather. The Royal Decree guarantees light operation between −10 ºC and 50 ºC, yet omits details on ambient temperature, prolonged exposure, direct solar radiation, or placement on heat-accumulating surfaces.
– In Andalusia, provinces like Sevilla, Córdoba, and Jaén record 44-45 ºC summers, with street thermometers surpassing 50 ºC. A sun-exposed car bonnet in July could exceed this limit, risking malfunction when reliability is critical. While operation at 50 ºC is assured, duration limits and safety margins remain unspecified. Some beacons can withstand up to +70 ºC, but even with these sturdy models poor-quality batteries are vulnerable, with prolonged direct sunlight exposure making even these unreliable. What do we have to say if the Civil Guard asks us for the V16 beacon and we don’t have it?: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Interior Minister has created legal confusion by announcing that traffic police will not yet fine drivers for failing to carry a new mandatory V16 emergency beacon, despite the relevant Royal Decree being in force. The decree stipulates an 80-euro fine for not carrying the beacon and a 200-euro fine for not using it in a breakdown. The minister described an indefinite “period of flexibility,” leaving drivers uncertain about when the rules will be enforced.
– This contradiction between the law and the minister’s public statement is criticised as a legal and functional absurdity. The article advises drivers who are asked to produce the beacon, and do not have it, to politely cite the minister’s announcement that it is not yet mandatory. The article states that if given a ticket, drivers would have strong grounds to appeal any penalty successfully. Sure to be challenged– Madrid contributes the most yet will receive less funds per capita than Catalonia with the new financing: {Translation, summary}
– Madrid, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands are the only net contributors to Spain’s regional financing system. Madrid is by far the largest contributor, providing nearly four times the sum Catalonia does. The system redistributes nearly 24,000 million euros to poorer regions. A proposed new model would increase total funding by 47% by 2027. Under it, Catalonia would receive the second highest absolute sum and the highest per capita increase, gaining 1,792 extra euros per inhabitant. Madrid, despite being the primary funder, would receive less than half the extra funds allocated to Catalonia. This breaches the ordinality principle for all regions except Catalonia and significantly widens the funding gap, leaving Madrid the most disadvantaged. Calculations show Madrid would pay 874 million more into the new system while Catalonia pays 753 million less. Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/economia/madrid-recibira-60-menos-per-capita-que-cataluna-nueva-financiacion_202601116963619eea66eb73532c8cbf.html

Andalucia branch international criminal organization called “Black Axe” taken down:
– Europol on Friday announced the arrest of 34 individuals in Spain who are alleged to be part of an international criminal organization called Black Axe. As part of an operation conducted by the Spanish National Police, in coordination with the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and Europol, 28 arrests were made in Seville, along with three others in Madrid, two in Málaga, and one in Barcelona.
– “The criminal network is known for its involvement in a wide range of criminal activities, including cyber-enabled fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking and prostitution, kidnapping, armed robbery and fraudulent spiritual practices,” Europol said in a statement. It’s estimated that the criminal network is responsible for fraud resulting in damages exceeding €5.93 million ($6.9 million). In addition to the arrests, authorities have frozen €119,352 ($138,935) in bank accounts and seized €66,403 ($77,290) in cash during house searches.
– Black Axe is assessed to be a hierarchical criminal group that had its origins in Nigeria in 1977 before spreading to dozens of countries across the world. The organization is said to have about 30,000 registered members, and other affiliates such as money mules and facilitators.
– The “violent mafia-style gang” has been attributed to a laundry list of cyber-enabled activities, including business email compromise schemes, romance scams, inheritance scams, credit card fraud, tax fraud, advance payment scams, and money laundering, that facilitate financial fraud.

MALAGA PROVINCE
The Government acknowledges that it does not have a protocol to remove damaged heavy vehicles from the A-7: {Translation, summary}
– Elisa Pérez de Siles, the PP spokesperson for Málaga, has criticised the national government for admitting, in a parliamentary reply, that it has no protocol for removing broken-down lorries from the A-7 motorway, leading to severe congestion. She highlighted that this inaction resulted in 22 hours of traffic jams over five separate incidents in October and November, with a single traffic jam on 5 November lasting ten hours. Accusing the Sánchez government of contempt for Málaga, she contrasted the lack of funds for a local fourteen-million-euro traffic decongestion plan with government spending to please its parliamentary allies, specifically Catalan and Basque pro-independence parties. The PP is also collecting signatures to demand urgent traffic measures and a subsidy for Spain’s most expensive toll road, the Costa del Sol toll, which recently was raised at a rate above inflation. Ecologists denounce illegal clearing and works in the natural area of Maro: {Translation}
– The Cabinet for Nature Studies of the Axarquía (GENA–Ecologists in Action) has filed a complaint with the Territorial Delegation for Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Regional Government regarding clearance and construction work detected in the vicinity of El Cañuelo beach, within the Natural Area of the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs.
– According to a statement released by the environmental association this Saturday, the activities have been taking place for approximately one month on a plot of land next to the former picnic area of the cove, which is currently inactive. The initial actions involved the removal of scrub and bushes, the remains of which were subsequently burned, as indicated by a large black stain visible in the cleared area.
GENA maintains that, subsequently, a vehicle allegedly accessed the cove without authorization to transport machinery intended for leveling the ground. According to the group’s complaint, this work was allegedly carried out at night. Furthermore, a crew of three or four people reportedly built stone structures by piling, similar to walls or breakwaters, and extracted boulders from a nearby scree slope to continue these works.
– “The totality of the detected actions is incompatible with the protection regime of the natural area and constitutes a direct alteration of protected habitats,” state representatives from GENA. They emphasize that the area is protected under Law 2/1989 on Protected Natural Areas of Andalusia, forms part of the Natura 2000 network as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and is catalogued as a Specially Protected Area of Mediterranean Importance (SPAMI).
– The association points out that the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN) and the Management and Use Master Plan (PRUG) for the area expressly prohibit unrestricted construction, especially without an environmental impact study submitted for public consultation. In their view, the works cannot be justified either as a dwelling, as it is a new building constructed after the declaration of the protected area, or as a picnic area or beach bar, since it is not included in the current Beaches Plan and El Cañuelo cove “has no tourist function.”
– For all these reasons, GENA has requested the Regional Ministry to open the corresponding disciplinary proceedings, assess the environmental damage caused, impose the appropriate sanctions, and adopt the necessary measures to halt and prevent the continuation of the works. Despite the “no tourist function” claim, there are two beach bars operating at El Cañuelo beach, as SUR has been able to verify. This is the underwater tunnel that will be the longest in the world, will link two European countries and will cost more than 7,000 million: {Translation}
– 2029. This is the year in which the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link is scheduled to be inaugurated, An underwater tunnel which will link the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn and will be the longest of its kind.
– Located under the Baltic Sea and 18 kilometres long, the Fehmarn tunnel will drastically reduce the journey time between Scandinavia and continental Europe. The authors of the project describe it as “Denmark’s largest infrastructure project and the longest submerged tunnel rail link in the world”. The project has an estimated cost of 7,000 million euros, of which the European Union will contribute approximately 1,300 million. The technology is of Danish development and is based on the experience gained, among others, in the Öresund tunnel.
– Once completed, the tunnel will not pose any obstacle to maritime traffic in the Fehmarnbelt, as maritime safety is also a top priority during the construction phase. Developers say the Fehmarn Tunnel will be as safe as a similar stretch of motorway at ground level and will feature continuous shoulders and emergency exits along its entire length.
– The Danish Institute of Civil Engineers highlights that the Fehmarn tunnel will be built on the seabed, calling it “a remarkable feat of engineering.” Weighing 73,500 tons each, these colossal structures are a testament to modern engineering. Once a tunnel element is ready for shipment, watertight bulkheads (barriers) are installed at both ends, and the segment is carefully towed into position by tugboats.
“In total, 89 elements will be connected sequentially (as if assembling giant Lego pieces) to form the complete tunnel,” they conclude. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/internacional/asi-tunel-submarino-sera-mas-largo-mundo-unira-dos-paises-europeos-costara-millones_6919656_0.html

European Disunity Exposed as Weak Response to Trump’s Greenland Threat Highlights Strategic Paralysis: {Translation, summary}
– A weak, seven-nation European statement on US threats to Greenland highlights EU disunity and paralysis towards Donald Trump’s expansionist actions. The statement, avoiding direct condemnation and lacking full EU-27 backing, mirrors the bloc’s previous timid response to the US operation in Venezuela. Experts criticise this as a failure of geopolitical thinking, driven by fear of Trump’s retaliation and European dependency on US support for Ukraine. They draw parallels between US actions in Venezuela and Russia’s in Crimea, noting the vastly different European reactions. While Denmark’s prime minister strongly defended Greenland, no unified EU stance emerged.
– Analysts warn Trump’s threats are serious, given his ideological circle and the Monroe Doctrine’s revival. They argue Europe must develop a stronger, unified strategy to defend international law and its own security interests, moving beyond cautious diplomacy that leaves it vulnerable. Trump posts several images suggesting next military target — and it’s not Greenland or Iran:
– Donald Trump early on Sunday morning shared numerous images indicating a new military target on his mind, other than Greenland and Iran. The president took to Truth Social first thing to share half a dozen posts from other people and graphics, but they all had a theme: Trump pondering taking Cuba.
– The first post was a share from conservative Marc Thiessen, who wrote, “The Cuban regime has survived every president since Eisenhower. Wouldn’t it be something if that streak ended with Donald Trump?”
– Trump also shared an AI photo of himself smoking a Cuban cigar, and he shared a post from someone encouraging Trump to make Marco Rubio the president of Cuba {pic}. “Sounds good to me!” Trump wrote in response to the particular message. Iran Protest Death Toll Rises as Alarm Grows over Crackdown ‘Massacre’:
– At least 192 protesters have been killed in Iran’s biggest movement against the Islamic republic in more than three years, a rights group said Sunday, as warnings grew that authorities were committing a “massacre” to quell the demonstrations. The protests, initially sparked by anger over the rising cost of living, have now become a movement against the theocratic system in place in Iran since the 1979 revolution and have already lasted two weeks.
– Protests have swelled in recent days despite an internet blackout that has lasted more than 60 hours, according to monitor Netblocks, with activists warning the shutdown was limiting the flow of information and the actual toll risks being far higher. “Since the start of the protests, Iran Human Rights has confirmed the killing of at least 192 protesters,” the Norway-based non-governmental organisation said, warning that the deaths “may be even more extensive than we currently imagine”.
– Videos of large demonstrations in the capital Tehran and other cities over the past three nights have filtered out despite the internet cut that has rendered impossible normal communication with the outside world via messaging apps or even phone lines. Video verified by AFP showed large crowds taking to the streets in new protests on Saturday night in several Iranian cities including Tehran and Mashhad in the east, where images showed vehicles set on fire. Elon Musk hits out at Keir Starmer, reposting AI images of PM wearing a bikini:
– Elon Musk has accused the UK government of wanting “to suppress free speech” and then reposted a fabricated AI images of Prime Minister Keir Starmer (wearing a bikini, pics below). This follows government threats to ban Musk’s social media platform, X, due to its AI tool, Grok, being misused to generate sexualised images of children and women. Musk questioned why the UK was “so fascist,” while X stated it bans accounts creating illegal content and cooperates with police. In response, Starmer insisted X must “get a grip,” with full support for regulator Ofcom to act. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall labelled the manipulated images “despicable and abhorrent,” backing potential bans or hefty fines under the Online Safety Act. Deputy PM David Lammy also raised the issue with a US counterpart, finding him sympathetic. Ofcom is now urgently contacting X to assess its compliance with UK safety laws. Bob Weir, Grateful Dead Co-Founder and Guitarist, Dead at 78:
– Bob Weir, the singer, songwriter, guitarist, and co-founder of the Grateful Dead, whose songs about sunshine daydreams and truckin’ helped turn the jam band into a 60-year musical empire, has died at age 78.
– “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir,” Weir’s family wrote in a statement. A date of death was not immediately available. “He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could. Unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues.”
– On New Year’s Eve, 1965, Weir and his friends heard banjo music emerging from Dana Morgan’s Music Store. He went in and found Garcia, and the two decided to form a band. The acoustic Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions evolved into the electric Warlocks, who changed their name to the Grateful Dead.
