ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –

DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.

#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com

Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 113

Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

***********

Due to the weak response to this year’s fundraiser, it will be extended until the end of January. This will give readers who have been out of town for the holidays a chance to get their donations in. The very modest target is donations from 4% of subscribers, currently the tally is just over 2%. Thanks again to those that have donated, it is much appreciated!

RECOMMENDATIONS, REQUESTS & COMMENTS

When making a recommendation always include the phone number or website of the biz, service, etc., so readers can reach them. Note: I can’t post third party email addresses.

Two “Soapbox” Comments From N.T.:
1. Constant noise pollution from light aircraft.
Has anyone, other than me, noticed the daily onslaught of light aircraft constantly flying overhead, disturbing our peace with their droning engines? This has been going on for many months and is particularly annoying in the summer months when one is enjoying time outside.
It would appear, subject to correction, that these planes originate from flight training schools at the airfield in Velez-Malaga and fly, at least, over Nerja, Maro, La Herradura and Almuñécar.
With the noise emanating from above, this impinges on thousands of people at the same time. They seem to fly to different altitudes and often several times back and forth. Sometimes they stop and start their engines and often accelerate which increases the noise significantly.
Clearly we need to train pilots so the occasional flight could be tolerated but this repeated, often daily noise intrusion over land, which often starts before 9am, constitutes a public nuisance.
If sufficient people join me on this soapbox then I will be motivated to investigate.
N.T.
2. I applaud Naythan’s gentle approach and restraint in raising funds to support DigameXtra, however I think it is disappointing that so few folk have donated, considering the number of subscribers. If you are reading this and have not donated I trust you will feel sufficiently guilty to do something about it and not continue to ride on the purses and generosity of the few.

RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Three arrested in Rincón de la Victoria for a violent assault and a subsequent robbery in a home: {Translation, summary}
– Three people have been arrested in Rincón de la Victoria after a violent assault that led to serious injuries and two robberies against the same victim. The initial attack occurred on 19 December, when three assailants beat a local resident and stole jewellery, a gold chain, and cash before fleeing in a luxury car. Days later they returned, using a key stolen in the robbery, to enter his home, where they caused significant damage and took valuables worth about 60,000 euros. Two suspects were caught leaving the property, one carrying a sock filled with jewellery and money, the other with nearly 1,000 euros. A coordinated search with local police led to the capture of a third suspect and recovery of the vehicle used. All three detainees were placed in provisional custody by judicial order. The investigation and arrests were carried out by the Guardia Civil’s Rincón de la Victoria team. EUROPE

Blast in Utrecht residential neighbourhood causes widespread damage, unknown casualties under rubble:
– An explosion on a residential street in the centre of the Dutch city of Utrecht injured at least four people Thursday, an emergency services official said. The cause of the blast was not immediately known. The explosion, which caused a blaze and widespread damage, occurred mid afternoon, sending people running into nearby shopping streets. Firefighters tried to douse the flames but were not immediately able to enter damaged homes because of fears of structural damage.
– Emergency services spokesman Sjaak Haasnoot said the four people injured were taken to the city’s hospital. The extent of their injuries was not known. It was unclear if there were any casualties. “It is very difficult at the moment to say how many victims are under the rubble,” Haasnoot said. “The fire department cannot enter the building because it is still unstable.” Full article: https://apnews.com/article/netherlands-utrecht-explosion-injuries-fire-b8d426ae3f9d14cbf726e509aec4defb

New Czech government of populist leader Andrej Babiš wins a mandatory confidence vote:
– The Czech Republic’s new government led by populist Prime Minister Andrej Babiš {pic} won a mandatory confidence vote in the lower house of Parliament on Thursday over its agenda aimed at steering the country away from supporting Ukraine and rejecting some key European Union policies.
– The political comeback by Babiš and his new alliance with two small government newcomers are expected to significantly redefine the nation’s foreign and domestic policies. Unlike the previous pro-Western government, Babiš has rejected any financial aid for Ukraine or guarantees for EU loans, joining the ranks of Viktor Orbán of Hungary and Robert Fico of Slovakia. Lawmakers voted 108-91 in favour of the coalition in the ballot that every new administration must win to govern.
– Coalition partner The Freedom Party sees no future for the Czechs in the EU and NATO, and wants to expel most of 380,000 Ukrainian refugees in the country. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/czech-new-government-confidence-vote-babis-34a9ee9ea171d70268112b146b8dbfa5

USA

Trump Threatens Insurrection Act for Minnesota:
– President Donald Trump warned Minnesota officials Thursday morning that unless they stop encouraging “professional agitators and insurrectionists” from attacking federal law enforcement officers, he will send U.S. troops to quell the violence. In a Truth Social post, Trump blasted what he called “corrupt politicians” in Minnesota and said if they “don’t obey the law” and don’t stop attacks on the “Patriots of I.C.E.,” he is prepared to invoke the Insurrection Act to “quickly put an end” to the unrest.
– The president’s warning comes as tensions spiked again in Minneapolis after a federal officer shot a man in the leg during an arrest attempt Wednesday night, federal officials said. The Department of Homeland Security said officers were attempting to take into custody an illegal migrant from Venezuela when the suspect fled by car, crashed into a parked vehicle, and ran. DHS said the officer was then attacked by three individuals — one wielding a shovel and another a broom handle — before the officer fired what the agency described as a defensive shot. Two additional suspects were taken into custody, and the wounded man’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
– Trump’s message frames Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Minnesota as a result of a breakdown of local leadership. That framing, he argues, has emboldened activists to escalate from protest to violence against officers carrying out lawful duties.
– In court this week, U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez did not immediately grant an emergency request from Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to halt the federal operation. Democrat Gov. Tim Walz, meanwhile, has portrayed the operation as heavy-handed and accused the federal government of provoking chaos — rhetoric Republicans argue only inflames the streets and invites further clashes. GASTRONOMIA

Fighting Back Against Insane Pizza Prices On Costa del Sol– No, paying €10 for a small personal 2 item pizza, or €12 for a portion of lasagne, is not normal: {Translation}
– If a pizzeria in one of the most expensive cities in Spain sells pizzas with unlimited items for just €6, why are you paying double? It’s just a cup of flour and a few ounces of toppings after all… Now, if they are serving it to you from a food-truck then maybe…hahaha!
– One of the cheapest pizzas (and lasagne & calzones) throughout the whole province of Malaga, Todo Pizza El Canijo, considered one of the “most savoury” pizzas in the territory, is served at a restaurant in Marbella that treasures three decades of history making these creations with handmade dough and fresh ingredients. This business has a unit price for all its pizzas, regardless of the number or type of ingredients included. It is Todo Pizza El Canijo, a venue in the centre of Marbella that claims to offer “the best pizzas in the city” by providing “the highest quality at the best price”.
– This restaurant offers its customers 28 different pizza/lasagne/calzone specialities for a single price of 6 euros– “No matter the quantity of ingredients you choose”. The only thing that alters this price is wanting a pizza half one flavour, half another, which would make the order cost one euro more.
– Moreover, their Bolognese lasagne, or calzones with up to four ingredients, cost just 6 euros.
– All this is available for home delivery or collection at its premises in Calle Virgen del Amparo number 1 in Marbella.
Its hours are from Tuesday to Sunday from 13.00 to 15.30 and from 18.30 to 00.00, while it remains closed on Mondays. For its part, this emblematic restaurant opens every public holiday of the year.
