SPAIN
Do Spain´s Migration Plans Put the Rest of EU at Risk? Brussels and Madrid Clash over Immigration Regularisation and Digital Regulation Plans: {Translation, summary}
– Brussels and Madrid are experiencing an unprecedented dispute over two sensitive policy fronts: immigration regularisation and digital regulation. The Spanish Government’s unilateral decision to grant legal status to up to 800,000 undocumented migrants has raised concern in the EU about its potential impact on freedom of movement in the Schengen area and the risk of attracting new arrivals. Although migrant regularisation is a national competence, other Member States fear a “pull effect” and legal inconsistencies across borders– countries fear immigrants will register in Spain, as it is the easiest now to do so, then will move on to other countries where they could not have been regularized previously. {It has even been suggested a black market in forged Spanish rent receipts, showing residence before the actual arrival of migrants, thus allowing them access to the program, will flourish. -Ed.}
– At the same time, Spain’s plan to ban social media for under-16s and hold online platforms accountable for hate speech and illegal content has triggered warnings that such measures may breach the EU’s Digital Services Act, which seeks uniform digital governance across the Union. The debate, fuelled by criticism from figures like Elon Musk, has turned political. The European Parliament will now discuss the proposals, emblematic of the growing friction between national initiatives and Europe’s integrated legal order. It has gained 29 cubic hectometres in just one week, more than triple the volume recorded a year ago, and marks the highest water level of the past decade after years marked by extreme drought in the Axarquía region. MALAGA PROVINCE
Seismic wave- a hundred earthquakes shake the interior and the coast between Malaga and Cádiz in six days: {Translation, summary}
– Since 3 February, the southwest of Málaga and southeast of Cádiz have experienced a sequence of 105 minor earthquakes, mostly shallow, between the Sierra de Grazalema and the coast of Estepona. The strongest, magnitude 3.6, struck northwest of Jimera de Líbar on 8 February and was widely felt but caused no damage. Experts link the activity to the Gaucín Fault Zone, an active geological structure formed millions of years ago. Seventeen tremors were perceptible to residents, though all registered very low acceleration levels.
– Historical records show similar episodes in the twentieth century, including the 1936 sequence near Villaluenga del Rosario. The IGN and IGME-CSIC have increased monitoring with 23 permanent and three portable stations and stress that this activity falls within the region’s normal seismic behaviour. No evidence suggests any link between the current tremors and recent rainfall. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/oleada-sismica-centenar-terremotos-sacude_0_2005861139.html

Two arrested in Malaga for a massive scam of more than four million in cryptocurrency investments: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police arrested a man and a woman in Fuengirola and Malaga for allegedly operating an investment fraud and laundering the proceeds. Through several firms, they received cash and crypto asset transfers, claiming the funds would be invested in cryptocurrencies or currency trading between Spain and Colombia, promising high returns. A tip from an investor who lost 4,000 euros led police to evidence suggesting more than 3,000 victims and losses exceeding four million euros. Investigators confirmed multiple victims across provinces and uncovered companies used to channel funds abroad under false investment loan contracts. Searches in Fuengirola recovered documents, 2,260 euros, and crypto storage devices. The main suspect and an associate were detained, 27 bank accounts and three crypto wallets were frozen, and assets used for personal benefit – including a luxury car – were identified. The case remains under investigation to trace more perpetrators and analyse seized data. Bad Bunny’s All-Spanish Super Bowl Halftime Show Had Most Obscene Lyrics of All Time…In Spanish:
– Bad Bunny’s Spanish-only performance hid a vulgar turn for the NFL’s Halftime Show, making it the most obscene performance in league history.
– The Puerto Rican rapper performed a medley of his hits, including “Tití Me Preguntó,” “Yo Perreo Sola,” “Safaera,” and “Monaco”. He also performed “Baile Inolvidable,” “Nuevayol,” “El Apagón,” and “Café con Ron.” Some of these songs, particularly “Safaera,” are notorious among Spanish speakers for their profanity and explicit references to sex acts and drug use.
– Audio for the majority of Bad Bunny’s most objectionable lyrics was either distorted during the Super Bowl broadcast or the artist himself censored them. Some of them, however, were both performed and appeared on a large screen behind the stage. In one case, the rapper let the audience fill in the explicit sexual reference.

iPhone 17e is ‘imminent’ and it’ll bring four major upgrades for the same price: {Summary}
– The more affordable Apple iPhone 17e smartphone will be revealed “imminently”, according to a new report from the reliable Apple-watcher Mark Gurman. He believes the new handset will kickstart Apple’s plans to jumpstart 2026 with new a hardware spree that’ll also include new Mac models.
– Previous rumours have suggested the phone will arrive on February 19. That’s the same date as the iPhone 16e arrived in 2025. Gurman doesn’t specify a date but “imminent” could for sure be classified as the next ten days. According to Gurman the iPhone 17e won’t be getting a price bump. It’ll be available for $599, Gurman says. That means we’d likely see the same starting price of £599 in the UK too.
– That’s good news considering Apple is also planning to bring key upgrades to the second generation ‘e’ series phone. For starters, there’ll be MagSafe connectivity. It’s also set to boast the latest A19 processor Apple uses for the base iPhone 17 handset revealed in September. Furthermore, the iPhone 17e will include the C1X 5G modem Apple uses in its flagship phones. It’ll have the N1 chip that handles Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Thread connectivity, Gurman reports.
