Sushi Wars in Torrox Costa: A new sushi/Asian restaurant has opened on the Torrox Costa Paseo Maritimo, ‘Mi Sushi 2’. It is right in front of the Ichiban Asian Restaurant, who also feature various sushi items on their menu. I had a meal at Mi Sushi 2 this weekend. The service was excellent; my server didn’t speak any English but was patient in trying to understand my poorly pronounced Castellano. The prices are very reasonable, especially for a beachfront restaurant: €3.70 per pint of draft, €3.50 for 6 Vietnamese spring rolls, and €8.95 for the platter of 4 maki + 4 sushi + 1 steamed meat bun + stir fried noodles w/chicken {pic}, accompanied by generous portions of pickled ginger slices and flaming hot wasabi. If you ask for “salsa picante” you will get a small dish of hot chili sauce, and a tube of green wasabi paste that appears to be a different shade of green, and even hotter than the wasabi served with the meal. They have sidewalk terrace and enclosed terrace seating, and it is smoker friendly. Menu has over 200 plates/items, including sizzling combo platters on iron skillets, noodle & rice bowls, sushi / maki / negri / buns / dumplings / seaweed-rolls / etc. Simple, comfortable, affordable and tasty. It’ll be a good place to hang out on the beach when it warms up. I’ll be going for the sizzling duck with Asian veggies platter next visit. ALL AVAILABLE FOR TAKE-AWAY.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The price of electricity will register a negative price this Monday for the first time in history; 21%VAT returns: {Translation, summary}
– The wholesale electricity market, the so-called ‘pool’, will register this Monday for the first time in history negative price for three hours, in which the megawatt hour (MWh) will be -0.01 euros, according to provisional data the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE).
– Specifically, the three hours at a negative price will be between 14.00 and 17.00 hours, and is mainly due to the Nelson storm that has left a lot of rain and, above all, wind for renewables to work at full capacity. These are two of the cheapest ways of generating energy and causing prices to plummet.
– With an average price of 2.76 euros/MWh during the day, from midnight until 20.00 this Monday, the price of electricity will be zero euros or practically zero during all hours, rising from 21.00 to 22.00, when it will cost 21.43 euros/MWh, the maximum this Monday.
– In any case, these negative prices in the wholesale market that will be recorded this Monday will not be reflected in the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVPC) or regulated tariff, as with the entry into 2024 a new calculation method was adopted that incorporates a basket of prices in the medium and long term and there are also fixed costs for the consumer for tolls, charges and system adjustments.
– April thus begins, continuing the trend recorded in March, when the average price was 20 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), half the average price recorded in February and 77.5% less than in March 2023, when it stood at 89.6 euros/MWh.
*The Return of the 21% VAT*
– In February, the average daily price on the wholesale market stood at 40 euros/MWh, a drop of 46% compared to January. This led to electricity temporarily recovering its Value Added Tax (VAT) of 21% from March, after the wholesale market price averaged less than 45 euros/MWh in February, the ceiling set in the Royal Decree on urgent measures.
– The last Council of Ministers last year approved that VAT on electricity would increase from 5% to 10% and that this rate would be maintained until the end of 2024, provided that the condition that MWh prices on the wholesale market remained high, above 45 euros/MWh, was met. Specifically, VAT would become 21% provided that in the calendar month prior to the last day of billing the wholesale price was below this threshold. In other words, all bills that include consumption for at least one day in March will be subject to 21% VAT. Only households with the bono social are exempt from this increase, as their VAT will remain at 10% throughout 2024.
– In any case, the ‘pool’ does not exactly represent the final amount in the price of electricity for a consumer on the regulated tariff, as with the entry into 2024 a new method of calculating the PVPC was adopted, which incorporates a basket of prices in the medium and long term to avoid strong oscillations, without losing the short-term price references that encourage savings and efficient consumption. Specifically, the proportion linked to the pool price will be progressively reduced to incorporate references from the futures markets, so that these will represent 25% in 2024, 40% in 2025 and 55% from 2026 onwards. Council of Europe rules against severance pay in Spain, puts pressure on government to reform it: {Translation, summary}
– “Establish guarantees for workers against dismissal, in compliance with the European Social Charter”. This promise of the PSOE and Sumar government programme now takes on greater relevance. The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) – affiliated with the Council of Europe – has ruled that the compensation for unfair dismissal in Spain, which establishes a maximum of 33 days per year worked with a limit of 24 monthly payments, does not comply with the European Social Charter, according to sources familiar with the ruling.
– The UGT trade union had filed a complaint with this body in 2022 because, in its opinion, compensation for unfair dismissal does not always compensate the damage caused to the worker, especially when the employment relationship has been short. The Charter establishes “the right of workers dismissed without valid reason to adequate compensation or other appropriate redress”. And the maximum of 33 days per year in the Spanish statutory system, the union interpreted, is not always “adequate” or “restorative”. The institution charged with interpreting the Charter, the ECSR, has agreed with the union. The body, according to these sources, does not make recommendations, but points out violations of the treaty. This is of particular value in view of the coalition government’s commitment to comply with the European Social Charter, the Committee being the body in charge of monitoring its correct application. Orwellian “New-speak” – Sánchez invents “mandatory solidarity” to require Madrid to house the migrants that Catalonia rejects: {Translation, summary}
– The new concept has been introduced by the PSOE in a proposal registered in the Senate. It is “obligatory solidarity”, and consists of being able to impose on Madrid the quota of accommodation for immigrants that Pedro Sánchez wants. The government is already preparing the next mechanism to put pressure on Isabel Díaz Ayuso (PP), president of the Community of Madrid, with whom Sanchez (PSOE) is currently embattled, as Sanchez’s wife and Ayuso’s partner both stand accused of financial malfeasance in seperate cases, resulting in a trade of accusations from both sides..
– The PSOE has presented a text to, it says, “promote the negotiation and signing of a cooperation agreement between the General State Administration and the Autonomous Communities, for the establishment of an agile procedure that allows for the derivation and stable distribution of migrant children and adolescents from the Canary Islands to other Autonomous Communities, with these communities assuming the guardianship of the same”. B
– But the following paragraph makes the intention of the measure clear: “To study the implementation, in the event that there is no will to cooperate on the part of any Autonomous Community, of a procedure that, on the basis of shared responsibility and obligatory and binding solidarity, makes a proportional and fair distribution among all the Autonomous Communities, prioritising the best interests of the minor and guaranteeing their rights at all times”. “On the basis of shared responsibility and obligatory and binding solidarity”, it states. Translated: the government decides how many it sends to each region and the communities keep quiet. Madrid is the Government’s priority object of hatred, so it is easy to guess the panorama that this measure opens up for Pedro Sánchez. ANDALUCÍA

Irregularities detected in one in ten consumer inspections: {Translation}
– The 2023 Consumer Inspection Plan in Andalusia has resulted in 11% of irregularities in the more than 2,000 establishments examined. One in ten of the 3,578 inspections carried out last year in all Andalusian provinces recorded an irregularity related to the lack of complaints and claims forms or the omission of product prices.
– The Directorate General for Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government announced in a note published by Europa Press that the inspection campaign and basic control of establishments began in March, as part of the Consumer Inspection Plan for 2024. The inspections, according to the Junta, will be carried out until December. At least 2,460 establishments in Andalusia will be inspected to ensure that they comply with the legislation.
– It is a campaign limited to the autonomous region and in which all the territorial delegations of Health and Consumer Affairs will examine food establishments, food markets, non-food products and those offering services to consumers and users, as well as the control of plastic bags to monitor compliance with current regulations.
– The inspections will focus on the existence in the establishments of a complaints and claims form, the obligatory sign indicating their existence, the traceability of the products sold, the presence and correct indication of the retail prices of products and services, advertising, product guarantees and the issuing of invoices and proof of payment.
– The actions also include the control of the scales used for weighing the products, the control of the sale and compulsory signage on tobacco, and compliance with the regulations on plastic bags, among other issues.
*Main non-compliances in 2023*
– The Directorate General for Consumer Affairs explains that in the 2023 inspection campaign, 3,578 inspections were carried out in 2,116 establishments in all Andalusian provinces and irregularities were detected in 11% of cases. The main irregularities were related to the establishment not having the official complaints and claims forms of the Junta de Andalucía or not displaying the sign announcing the existence of these in a visible place.
– It was also observed that they did not display the retail prices of the products displayed on the shelves or cupboards inside, or that the prices per unit of measurement were not correctly advertised.
– The Junta de Andalucía reports that citizens can contact Consumo Responde, a free information and advice service for consumers and users, promoted by the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, if they have any doubts or queries regarding consumer affairs. This service can be accessed via the free telephone number 900 21 50 80 and by email consumoresponde@juntadeandalucia.es, both from 08:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Friday and from 08:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays (except public holidays). The latest rains may allow the water restrictions to be relaxed in Malaga and the Coast this summer: {Translation, summary}
– The rise in reserves in the reservoirs removes the specter of the most drastic restrictions in much of the province during next summer. This is going to happen in Malaga capital (which is supplied by the Guadalhorce system). And on the western Costa del Sol (from the La Concepción dam), thanks to the water that has accumulated during this episode, and what remains on this Sunday.
– On the other hand, in Axarquía, although La Viñuela also improves, it is still not enough and will continue to be subject to tight consumption control. The La Viñuela reservoir already has more accumulated water than just a year ago. In fact, it is the only reservoir in the province that can boast of this milestone. Specifically, 21 cubic hectometers have been reached for the first time in more than twelve months (at the closing of this edition, probably more thanks to early morning runoff). There are 4 Hm2 more, and with this, it is at 12% of its capacity. In addition, it is one of those that is capturing the most water during this latest episode, thanks to rainfall of 80 liters per square meter between March 23 and 30.
– However, no matter how much the runoff may contribute in the coming days, the level is still very far from what would be optimal so that Vélez-Málaga and its surroundings could stop being supplied from the Guadalhorce system (via the capital) and recover the normality of the supply, which is now subject to severe nightly cuts. TORROX

Torrox mayor on migrants- ‘There are lots of vacant hotels in empty Spain and this resort is not the best place to house them’:
– “I understand that in Torrox we need more hotel accommodation, and there are vacant hotels in ’empty Spain’, and El Morche is not exactly the best place to house them.” That is what the mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, said at the last ordinary plenary session, held on Easter Monday. ‘Empty Spain’ is a phrase that refers to the country’s rural areas that have suffered from underinvestment and depopulation over a number of years.
– “There are many hotels in empty Spain and El Morche is not the best place. I do not understand that a hotel on the beachfront has to house migrants, there was no geographical justification, they came to Madrid by plane from the Canary Islands and are transferred by road to Torrox. I see it’s wrong that, as a businessman, (the owner) preferred to make a pact with the Spanish government of Pedro Sánchez and did not bet on tourism which is what we are interested in,” Medina said.
– The statement comes amid a situation that has been ongoing since last October at the Urban Beach Hotel Torrox Costa in El Morche {pic}, after its owner reached an agreement with the Spanish government to convert it into a temporary stay centre for migrants arriving by boat from the Canary Islands.
– The councillor announced the Granada businessman has extended the contract with the government to extend the stays of migrants “even in the summer months”. “I think PSOE and Sumar-IU should have considered contracting with hotels in municipalities with less occupancy in the high season,” he wrote on his social media account. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Local residents help foil squatters as they attempt to occupy two half-million-euro penthouses in Rincón de la Victoria:
– On Wednesday 27 March, just a few hours after a salesman had shown the properties to some families interested in buying them, residents – with the help of the Local Police – thwarted an attempt by squatters to move into the properties. A group of young people had changed the locks and were about to unload their belongings when they were intercepted. A neighbour first raised the alarm in the residential community’s WhatsApp group at about 10pm. He informed the rest of the residents that he had seen a young man jump over the fence of the residential development and, once inside, let in a group of other people.
– It appears the group who intended to squat the flats – some residents said there were between four and six of them, while others said they saw at least 10 – were filmed walking through the grounds and heading towards the flats. Although they left after a while, they returned to the residential development after midnight, presumably with the intention of unloading their belongings from three cars parked outside. Although they managed to change the lock cylinders, the alleged squatting attempt was thwarted, thanks to the neighbours who alerted the Local Police. Officers arrived at the scene and identified at least four people. In light of the incident, neighbours said they want more security in the area, especially at night. EUROPE

Passport checks for air travellers lifted as Bulgaria & Romania begin integration into EU’s Schengen:
– Airports in Sofia and Bucharest on Sunday removed passport check points for those departing to or arriving from most European Union member states as Bulgaria and Romania partially joined the Schengen open-travel zone.
The two countries reached an agreement late last year to join Europe’s free-travel area by air and sea after Austria opposed full membership, including land crossings, saying Romania and Bulgaria needed to do more to prevent illegal immigration.

TECH

RAND Sees “Internet Of Brains” By 2050:
– Elon Musk-led Neuralink Corp. implanted a brain chip into the head of a 29-year-old man with quadriplegia. The paralyzed millennial was recently seen using what he described as “The Force” to move a computer cursor around the screen to play Civilization VI with his mind. This is further evidence that the ‘trans-humanism’ movement – the merger of humans and machines – is accelerating development, fundamentally improving human lives, or at least that’s what the billionaires are pitching.
– Editor Tim Hinchliffe of the tech blog The Sociable posted a creepy quote from a new report commissioned by the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and conducted by RAND Europe and Frazer Nash Consulting that read:
“An ‘internet of bodies’ may also ultimately lead to an ‘internet of brains’, i.e. human brains connected to the internet to facilitate direct brain-to-brain communication and enable access to online data networks.” RAND… (suggests) this technology could find itself in the marketplace between 2035 and 2050.
– “Trans-humanism implies the adoption of considerably advanced technologies by 2050, including brain-to-brain communication and genetic enhancement, and thus depends on resolving the various scientific and engineering barriers currently characterizing the field,” the report said. According to the report, the technological applications for this new brain network include:
* Wearable devices and implants for tracking and analyzing physiological and environmental data (e.g. biochips and implantable sensors). These technologies aim to achieve real-time continuous monitoring of physiological data to understand human health conditions and performance.
* Sensory augmentation technologies such as hearing and retinal implants designed to improve or augment sensory activities, particularly vision and hearing. Smart prosthetics are a related category, including exoskeletons, i.e. whole-body robotic suits that enhance end users’ physical capabilities and improve their mobility, strength, endurance and other abilities.
* Brain-computer or brain-brain interfaces that establish direct communications between human brains and/or computer devices. The latest example of transhumanism is Neuralink’s brain chip…
– If and when humans become fully integrated with machines, is this just a march towards digital slavery? Full article: https://www.zerohedge.com/technology/rand-sees-internet-brains-2050
