Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

AXARQUÍA

The Malaga Provincial Council demands that the Government expedite the desalination plant for Axarquía: {Translation, summary}
– The plenary session of the Diputación de Málaga has unanimously approved unanimously to demand the central government to speed up the construction of the desalination plant in the Axarquia region, declared of general interest of the State. The vice-president for Infrastructures and Sustainable Territory and spokesman for the PP government team, Cristóbal Ortega, stressed that this action “is essential to alleviate the water needs of this area and the province as a whole”.
– He recalled that the Government announced its construction in May 2023, shortly before the start of the municipal election campaign. In July 2023, a protocol was signed between the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Junta. The latter had to provide the available documentation to speed up the execution of the works and collaborate in making the land available where it would have to be located.
– After a period of time during which the process was delayed while the government incorrectly claimed it was not responsible and was waiting for reports from the Andalucia Junta, the Government finally admitted in a parliamentary response on 3 April 2024 that it is responsible for drawing up the technical project and that it must entrust it to the state-owned public company Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas (Acuamed), which must carry out the administrative procedures and put the work out to tender, following approval of the project by the Executive.
– The plenary session of the Malaga Provincial Council on Wednesday approved a budget amendment amounting to 53.5 million euros to increase the allocation for projects and programmes already underway, as well as to launch new investments and financial aid plans for local councils.
The deputy for Economy, Finance and Electronic Administration, María del Carmen Martínez, explained that this is a budget amendment that will benefit the municipalities of the province. And she detailed that the bulk of the amendment (40 million euros) comes from the liquidation of the participation of State taxes (PIE) for the year 2022. Also, almost nine million euros correspond to credit operations that the Diputación holds but has not yet used, and 3.7 million euros come from the remaining cash from the liquidation of the 2023 financial year.
– Of the total of 53.5 million euros, 17 million euros will be dedicated to the third economic assistance plan for all municipalities in the province, approved on Wednesday in the plenary session; almost 4.7 million euros for the implementation of the selective collection of organic waste with the installation of brown containers; and 4.3 million euros for various projects related to the Great Path of Malaga, the Green Corridor of the Guadalhorce and other projects of routes and trails.
– “In this way, it was demonstrated that it is the Ministry of Ecological Transition which has paralysed this infrastructure,” said Ortega, who regretted that “it has not yet lifted a finger to promote this important desalination infrastructure for the present and future of the Axarquia and the province. La Axarquía will host one of the four stages of the III Ruta del Sol Elite Women’s Cycling Tour: {Translation, summary}
– The third edition of the Ruta del Sol Elite Women, the Andalusian women’s cycling round, will be held from 29 May to 1 June and will bring together the most outstanding sportswomen in the international peloton. Twenty teams from 11 countries will take part in a race that will cover four Andalusian provinces: Cádiz, Jaén, Granada and Málaga. There will be around 450 kilometres starting in Castellar de la Frontera and finishing in Pizarra after two of the four stages, the third and fourth, will be held entirely in Malaga.
– The third and fourth stages will be entirely in Malaga: the third, 77 kilometres long, will run through the Axarquía region, passing through the towns of Torre del Mar and Caleta de Vélez, Algarrobo Costa and Algarrobo, Sayalonga, Árchez, Canillas de Albaida, Salares, Sedella, Canillas de Aceituno, La Viñuela and its districts of Los Gómez and Los Martínez, and Puente de Salia (Alcaucín), to finish in Vélez-Málaga.
– The fourth and final stage will cover 100 kilometres of Guadalhorce Valley roads passing through Alhaurín de la Torre, Estación de Cártama (Cártama), Pizarra, the Aloreño districts of Barriada del Puente, Bellavista, Paredones and Bermejo-Caracuel, Ardales, Casarabonela and Zalea (Pizarra). The finish line will be located in the municipality of Pizarra, where the winners will stand on the podium. MALAGA PROVINCE

Malaga will once again have one of the warmest summers in history; no rain is expected until September: {Translation, summary}
– Malaga is set to experience another summer with above-average mercury levels. So much so that it could be among the warmest in history, if not the warmest, as it is still too early to tell. What is certain is that, if this is achieved, the province will have two consecutive years of record-breaking temperatures. The 2023 record, it should be remembered, beat all the records of the last 30 years.
– At the moment, still in the pre-summer period, temperatures are already “above the climatological reference period 1991-2020”. For this reason, a particularly warm summer season is expected. Something which director of the State Meteorological Agency Riesco pointed out, “is not difficult to predict for Malaga”. The key will be how hot it will be. The data, according to the terciles that Meteorology uses for its measurements, say that it will be greater than average. And they also say that we will have to keep waiting for rain.
– It is not expected to fall until at least the end of August, when it could do so in the form of “locally heavy storms”, especially in inland areas. However, it seems that from September onwards the situation will improve, with the arrival of “a few droughts with heavy rainfall”.
– Meanwhile, during the summer it is likely that there will be further episodes of haze caused by “atmospheric circulation”. Although there is nothing to suggest that these will be along the same lines as the “anomalous” episodes that have occurred in recent years, but rather milder.

EUROPE

Europe’s battered Green movement tries to salvage climate agenda:
– Polls suggest Greens will perform worse than any other political grouping in June’s EU election, which will form the next 720-member European Parliament. They look set to lose nearly a third of their current 72 EU lawmakers.
“It was of course a great feeling in 2019. People all loved us and the climate was the number one topic,” Green EU lawmaker Anna Cavazzini told Reuters. “That’s a little different now, of course. Overall, I would say there is a bit of a social backlash against climate protection.”
– Fewer Greens in the next European Parliament will affect EU climate policy for the next five years, as the bloc’s “Green Deal” moves into a politically sensitive phase in which the economic impact of Green goals will become more visible. “The elections will be about the future of the Green Deal,” said Bas Eickhout, the Dutch EU lawmaker co-leading the Greens into the EU election.
– Analysts and EU lawmakers from across the political spectrum attribute the Greens’ expected decline to factors ranging from voters’ reaction to a cost of living crisis, anxiety over issues like migration – which has boosted support for far-right parties – and anger over unpopular moves by Green politicians in national governments.
“The big topics now are competitiveness, security, social issues, immigration, and these are topics on which the Greens struggle a little bit more,” said Davide Ferrari, head of research at research platform EU Matrix. In an Ipsos poll of 26,000 Europeans published in March by Euronews, respondents ranked climate change as only the sixth priority issue for the EU to tackle – behind inflation, illegal immigration and unemployment. Rishi Sunak calls UK national election for July 4:
– British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called a national election on Wednesday for July 4, saying Britons would be able to choose their future in a vote his Conservatives are widely expected to lose to the opposition Labour Party after 14 years in power.
Ending months of speculation as to when he would call a new vote, Sunak, 44, stood outside his Downing Street office in pouring rain and called the election several months earlier than expected – a risky strategy with his party far behind Labour in the opinion polls. – Ademola Lookman scored a stunning hat-trick as Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday to win just the second major trophy in their 117-year history and end the German champions’ remarkable unbeaten streak.
– Lookman, who struggled to establish himself in the English Premier League with Everton, Fulham and Leicester City before reviving his career in Italy under Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, struck twice inside the first 26 minutes before sealing the win 15 minutes from fulltime. Pets For Adoption

Axarquia Animal Rescue: A Voluntary Charity, Non-profit Organisation
CIF G93245116 / Charity Number 10567 (Spain)
Email: axarquia-rescue@hotmail.com
Website: www.axarquiaanimalrescue.com
2 Beautiful Podenco Cross Females in need of homes. Both are small to medium in size.
– Monkey – 7 months old, and full of life, a lovely happy pup, living in a foster home, she gets on well with other dogs, and just loves everyone. Every day is a new adventure for her. Fully vaccinated, with passport.
– Daisy – Approx 4 years old, living with other dogs in kennels. Daisy is very shy, and nervous, but also inquisitive, and will slowly come to you, she would really benefit being in a home with secure grounds. Vaccinations recently started.
Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport and 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, papers and have been neutered. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
