Nerja’s Pride Parade: Sat, 27 June
Nerja will join the Pride celebrations on June 27th with a festive day that will combine an awards ceremony, a parade, and a large party in Plaza de los Cangrejos.
The day will begin at 12:00 noon with the reading of the manifesto in the Town Hall’s Plenary Hall. Following this will be the second annual “Nerja Pride” Award ceremony, an initiative that recognizes individuals committed to defending equality and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
At 8:45 p.m. the Pride Parade will begin, a colourful procession that will travel through the main streets of the town and end at Plaza de los Cangrejos, the venue for the Grand Pride Party. The event will feature performances by Star Woman, Lollipop, Elettra, Carmen Soto, King Kokito, Felina, Tigretón, and more. An alert has been declared in Pulpí (Almería) due to the West Nile virus: {Trans, summary}
– The General Directorate of Public Health of the Andalusian Regional Government has declared the municipality of Pulpí (Almería) an area on alert due to the circulation of West Nile Virus (WNV), after carrier mosquitoes were detected in a trap located less than 1,500 meters from the town centre. According to a statement from the Regional Government, this is the first detection of the virus this year in the Andalusian Autonomous Community.
– The measure activates the Comprehensive Surveillance and Vector Control Program, which requires intensified entomological, animal, and human surveillance in the area for a minimum of four weeks or until further circulation is detected.
– Despite this entomological finding, the weekly Health report confirms that, to date, no cases of West Nile fever have been diagnosed in humans in Andalusia this year, following laboratory tests on 184 individuals and screening of 68 patients with viral meningitis. UPDATE: Elderly man drowns at La Torrecilla beach, Nerja:
– An 80-year-old man (some sources say he was 70yrs old) drowned at one of the most popular beaches in Nerja and the Axarquía area, La Torrecilla, on Wednesday afternoon. Several bathers reported seeing a person floating very close to the shore in front of a restaurant at 5:15pm. The body remained on the beach until 8:36pm.
– According to eyewitnesses, the man was on the beach accompanied by a caregiver, who had left him on the sand moments before the incident. The victim was found in the water wearing trousers and a shirt, but no shoes or swimming trunks.

Venezuela earthquakes kill at least 164 with many more feared dead:
– Two powerful earthquakes have struck Venezuela near the capital, killing at least 164 people and injuring nearly 1,000.
Rescuers are searching through rubble in Caracas and the nearby coastal city of La Guaira. People could be heard calling for help from under the debris of damaged buildings.
– The first 7.2-magnitude quake was followed seconds later by an even stronger 7.5-magnitude one, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), with both occurring close to the surface, making destruction more severe.

Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads as memory costs skyrocket:
– Apple raised iPad and MacBook prices on Thursday, saying it could no longer shield customers from soaring memory and storage chip ​costs driven by the AI industry’s datacenter buildout. The move does not affect Apple’s main cash cow, the iPhone.
