The Bio Beach Restaurant U3A Lectures Present:
Wed, Dec. 14 at 11am
Speaker Graham Hibberd, Retired Police Officer and Operational Police Dog Handler/Trainer. Join me on a journey, of how over the centuries, humans have learned to employ dogs in a variety of ways. From hunters, guarders of property, footwarmers, to working dogs; dogs from cinema and television, providers of hair and meat and more, though ultimately the most important of all, as good companions. With 40 years’ experience, as an Operational Police Dog Handler/Instructor in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, my presentation will end, giving answers to questions on rectifying problems you may have with your dog.
Note: These U3A lectures are free, just order refreshments from the Bio Beach staff. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade (right behind the church). We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact: norma2kk@aol.com

For Sale: Budget Priced Powerful Laptop – Only €70 VGC
Acer Aspire 5733, 2012 UK model; 15.6″ HD screen.
Intel i3 @ 2.53GHz; 240Gb SSD; 4Gb RAM; DVD
Windows 10 Pro, fresh install
3x USB2; VGA; Ethernet; 2.4 wifi; card reader; carry bag
Issues:
1) Dead battery, must use plugged in. I tried a replacement battery but the grey market battery didn’t work properly (returned it), and an original part replacement costs too much to make sense.
2) The “P” key is patched. It works fine.
This was top-of-the-line when new. I have installed a new SSD drive and 4Gb RAM card. Coupled with the powerful processor, this laptop is very fast. If you leave your laptop in place, plugged in, this could serve you well. Basically, the laptop is free, I am just looking to recoup what I paid for the new SSD & RAM. It served me well for many years, now it’s time to pass it on to someone else as I upgrade. It didn’t need a full refurb job as I maintained it well.
Buyer collects. DoctorLaptop, Torrox Costa.

SPAIN
President Sanchez Promises New Package Of Social Aid Aimed At Curbing Food Prices Before 2023, Gives No Specifics As Usual:
– Speaking at an event in Barcelona on Sunday, December 11, Pedro Sánchez announced that, while the Spanish government has managed to “bend the curve” of inflation in Spain (he doesn’t get to the supermarket often), much-needed aid to curb food prices will soon be in place the country.
– Sánchez promised that a new aid package to stop food prices from rising would be approved by the end of the year.
– The Spanish Prime Minister tweeted: “Our measures work, and we are bending the inflation curve.” “And before the end of the year, we will approve a new aid package for the social majority with mechanisms to contain the rise in food prices.” Sánchez added: “We are going to put all our resources, as we did during the pandemic, at the service of the people. “Not only out of social commitment but also as a matter of economic efficiency.”
– Earlier this week, Spain’s Vice-President and Minister of Employment, Yolanda Díaz, announced that her party was negotiating new measures with the PSOE to tackle rising food and mortgage prices within the framework of the extension of the anti-crisis decree that expires on December 31. However, she did not specify what they would consist of. Full article: https://global247news.com/2022/12/11/breaking-news-spain-announces-measures-to-curb-food-prices/
AXARQUIA
Aemet expects new rains next week in the Axarquia region: {Translation, summary} 11Dec22
– It will rain again next week in Axarquia. This Sunday, 11 December, the interior of the region has once again benefited the most from the rains. The La Viñuela reservoir has left behind its historic low, although it is still at 9.4% of its total capacity with 15.45 cubic hectometres of water stored.
– Aemet has activated a yellow warning for coastal phenomena (wind and waves) in Axarquia for Tuesday 13.
– With regard to this Sunday 11, the 19.3 litres per square metre recorded in Alfarnate and Alfarnatejo, the 17.3 litres in Colmenar, or the 17.1 litres per square metre in Alcaucín stand out. In Benamargosa, 14.4 litres were recorded, and in La Viñuela, 12.2. The other towns were around ten litres or less.
– As far as next week is concerned, Aemet’s first predictions suggest that the rains will return to Axarquia from Monday onwards, and may continue throughout the week, although not continuously. The days when the heaviest rainfall is expected are Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14. The agency puts the probability of rainfall at 100% between Tuesday and Thursday, leaving Friday at 75% for now.

COSTA DEL SOL
Volunteer interpreters back in action at the Costa’s hospitals:
– At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, the various volunteer interpreter associations that worked in a number of hospitals on the Costa del Sol had to stop offering an in-person service. They instead turned to the telephones and provided assistance to patients over the phone.
– However, in the last year they have gradually started to go back into the hospitals.
– The Axarquía team now has 19 volunteers working at the Torre del Mar hospital and five at the health centre in Nerja. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/volunteer-interpreters-back-20221209200548-nt.html

Britons Who Used Croatia As a Base to Reset Their Schengen Day Count No Longer Able to Do So From Jan. 1st:
– The Council of the European Union has decided to include Croatia in the borderless Schengen Area starting from January 1, 2023. While the decision is good news for Croatians and other EU nationals, travellers from Schengen Area’s visa-free countries who have used Croatia as a base to reset their 90-day period of permitted stay in the Schengen countries are not very happy with the decision.
– The three other non-Schengen EU countries, Romania, Bulgaria, and Cyprus, which permit visa-free entry for Britons, can be used as a reset base. These countries may actually be better options for Britons, as they are way cheaper than Croatia. EUROPE
Europe Is Hit by Shortages of Antibiotics:
– Countries across Europe are reporting shortages of antibiotics as demand for the medicines rises and manufacturers grapple with supply-chain snags.
– Amoxicillin, cephalosporins and other widely used antibiotics are in short supply, data from various countries show, raising concerns among doctors and officials about the availability of drugs that are relied on to treat conditions ranging from ear infections to pneumonia.
– Health groups and manufacturers attribute the shortages to several factors. Demand has rebounded following the lifting of pandemic-era restrictions that has resulted in more illness. Manufacturers are also facing delays in the supply of ingredients, packaging and other components, partly because of China’s Covid-19 restrictions. And rising energy costs are making some energy-intensive production difficult to maintain. Full article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/europe-is-hit-by-shortages-of-antibiotics-11670639357

NASA’s Orion space capsule splashes down after lunar voyage:
