RIP – Patricia Shaw 7/3/1945 – 18/12/2022:
– Patricia sadly passed away peacefully at home in Torrox Costa in the early hours of Sunday 18 December. We have not been able to easily access her contacts lists and I’m sure there are many people who read Digame who knew her through her two main passions of animal welfare and her interest and knowledge of Spanish history. I’m sure there are those who have been trying to contact her over the past couple of months and have wondered what has been happening, so I thought an announcement here would reach many of her friends and acquaintances. There will be no funeral service according to her wishes.

Explained- At least 91 convicted sex offenders have already benefited from the ‘only yes is yes’ law: {Translation, summary, with preface by Editor}
– Preface: The new law, passed without public preview of its contents, pushed thru Parliament in a rush by the progressive feminist movement, supposedly to enhance the freedom and safety of women, results in all these sex offenders getting early releases? Do the people that sponsored the law really support sentence reductions for male sex offenders? Or, is it unintended consequences of a poorly written, flawed document? Hard to say, but the regional courts are fast at work implementing it. Evidently it involves the addition of a new charge, “sexual assault”, which is less serious than the existing “sexual attack” crime. The former has shorter sentences than the latter. So now judges are reviewing cases to see if “attack” convictions should be reduced to “assault” status. From what I have read, if the victim didn’t tell the assailant to stop, or fight back if unable to speak, or was too inebriated to remember exactly what happened, or some other such circumstance, it may, possibly, not be considered an “attack” but only an “assault”, and these cases are now subject to judicial review and sentence reduction. -Ed.
– The number of convicted persons who have benefited from the new sentencing framework under the ‘only yes is yes’ law amounts to at least 91, including downward sentence reviews and subsequent sentences under the law. A total of 12 people have been released from prison. The last four reductions were announced on Monday and have taken place in three autonomous communities. With these new reductions, sources consulted by Europa Press confirm sentence revisions and sentence reductions in 15 autonomous communities. ANDALUCIA
Socialists Crash In Latest Polls: {Translation}
– Six months after the Andalusian elections, Juanma Moreno’s PP would maintain its absolute majority and the PSOE would hit electoral rock bottom, according to the barometer carried out by the Andalusian Studies Centre Foundation (Centra), known as the Andalusian CIS.
– The PP would be the most voted force with 42.3 percent of the votes. It would obtain between 56 and 58 deputies in the Andalusian Parliament. Moreno is the best-known politician (94.4% of those surveyed) and the most highly rated, with an average score of 5.95 points. The Minister of the Presidency, Antonio Sanz, welcomes the fact that “Andalusians continue to have broad confidence in Juanma Moreno’s government”.
– The Socialist PSOE, now with 30 seats, would drop to 22 or 23, with only 19.4% of the vote. According to the Andalusian CIS, only six out of ten of those surveyed even know Juan Espadas, leader of the PSOE in Andalusia, and give him a 4.34 rating.
– In third place is Vox, with 12.8% of the votes, equivalent to between 13 and 14 seats.
– Fourth place would go to Por Andalucía, which, with 11.9 per cent of the vote, would win between 12 and 13 representatives in the Andalusian Parliament. The seats that the PSOE would lose would be captured by the other parties of the left-wing coalition, according to this barometer. The leader of IU, Toni Valero, believes that this poll is “a symptom of a change that is taking place in the Andalusian electorate for the municipal elections”, suggesting that the left supporters still support the left, just not the current PSOE leaders.
– Lastly, Adelante Andalucía would achieve 5.4% of the support, which would mean between three and four seats.
– The survey, which has been reasonably accurate in recent years, was carried out between 21 November and 2 December among a sample of 3,600 people. Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1149617/elpp-de-juanma-moreno-mantendria-su-mayoria-y-elpsoe-caeria-a-22-escanos/

What About The GREEN Agenda? – Andalusian government plans to boost the mining sector:
– The Junta de Andalucía wants to boost the mining industry as a driving force for economic development and employment in the region and has set up a committee to promote different projects and investments in the sector. The president of the committee, the Junta’s Minister for Industrial and Energy Policy, Jorge Paradela, said it will work to develop the transport, energy and hydraulic infrastructures needed for major mining projects, make the sector more international and attract foreign investment.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT?
– Mining is the only major sector of the economy that is not sustainable. It uses up finite resources and, in turn, pollutes and destroys ecosystems.
– The adverse effects of mining are far-reaching and often irreversible. The process usually involves clearing large areas of land, which can damage natural habitats, cause deforestation, and lead to soil erosion. There is also evidence that mining causes global warming through excessive CO2 emissions, biodiversity loss, and accelerated erosion. It also poisons the land and water table with toxic chemicals and heavy metals, which leak into our drinking water supply. These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation, and even death. As a result, it is critical to carefully consider the environmental impact of any proposed mining project.

La Viñuela reservoir gains almost 2.5 hectometres in a week after the latest rains and is up to 11%: {Translation, summary}
– The La Viñuela reservoir has gained 2.48 cubic hectometres of water in one week following the latest rains, and now stands at 11.01% of its total capacity. As of 19 December it accumulated 18.09 cubic hectometres compared to 15.61 last Monday. In any case, the region is still in a situation of exceptional drought, and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) does not expect any new rainfall for at least the next seven days.
– It was on 7 December when the reserves of the La Viñuela reservoir reached their historic minimum, with the reservoir at 9.16% of its total capacity and only 15.06 cubic hectometres of accumulated water. Since then it has gained 3.03 hectometres, although the curve of new inflows has remained flat in the last few hours, so that practically what the reservoir is gaining is being consumed. British Embassy issues update on driving licence exchange in Spain:
– The British Embassy in Madrid has issued an update on its negotiations with Spain, where British residents who were unable to exchange their UK licences for Spanish ones within the allotted time period are currently not permitted to drive. Posting on the Brits in Spain Facebook page, the message was as follows:
– “This is a brief update on progress towards driving licence exchange coming into force and some more information on what to expect once that happens.
– “The UK’s legal checks have now been completed and a final version is with Spain for agreement on their side. When the British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Spanish Foreign Minister Albares met this week, they both agreed that we are close to completing this process. We will update again before the Christmas break and work with Spain will continue between Christmas and New Year.
– “In the meantime, here are provisional answers to some more of the questions you have been asking us”:
My UK licence has expired. Will I be able to exchange it without taking a test?
Yes. The text includes provision for expired licences to be accepted for exchange, provided they were valid at the time you began living in Spain. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/uk-driving-licence-exchange-20221219102917-nt.html
BONEHEAD AWARD
This Bonehead Award Goes to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for signing Spain’s new toy gender neutrality law:
– How much taxpayer money was wasted on this foolishness?
– Cars for girls, dolls for boys and no more pink and blue. For Spain’s left-wing government and the toy industry, it’s game over for gender stereotypes when it comes to the country’s littlest citizens.
– A pioneer in feminist initiatives, the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez (pic) has pushed through several schemes to tackle gender-based violence as well as advancing equality and women’s rights. The horribly flawed “only yes means yes” law is another example of his logic-defying feminist initiatives; more than 90 sex offenders have been released (12) or had sentences heavily reduced (79) due to the poorly written law we were not allowed to see until it was passed just a few weeks ago!
– Under the new code of toy ethics, advertisements can no longer say a toy is for a particular gender, or designate pink for girls and blue for boys, which is deemed to reinforce outdated gender roles.
– Signed by the Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers (AEFJ), which represents 90 percent of the industry in Spain, it took a year to draw up, said Rafael Escudero of the consumer affairs ministry.
– There are no sanctions for those who fail to comply, who only run a “reputational risk”, and major international brands are not affected. Thus the entire exercise was a waste of time and money, creating a law with no real effect, nothing but bonehead progressive virtue signaling.

Your cat knows you’re talking to it, but does it understand you?:
Scientists are beginning to understand human-feline communication, but there’s still a long way to go. Although there are probably more, the vocal repertoire of the cat is wide, and up to 21 different vocalizations have been described in the scientific literature. The most popular vocalization for communicating with humans is the meow. Wild cats will meow on occasion to mark territory or attract a mate, but domesticated cats do it constantly when interacting with people. This is why scientists think that meowing may be a product of feline domestication and socialization with humans. Full article:
