***Norton User Alert***
Over this weekend, Norton decided to flag DigameXtra as an unsafe website. When I visited their website to investigate, they tried to sell me a security package that they said would fix the problem, and allow me to put a Norton logo on the website proclaiming it safe. I checked DigameXtra on VirusTotal where they scan the website with 50 different top malware detection tools, and of course DigameXtra was 100% clean. So I refused to accept this blackmail, I am certainly not going to pay Norton for the privilege of providing them free advertising. I sent in a dispute notice. Within hours Norton removed the warning. This is an unscrupulous practice, even if they did rectify it quickly, and I certainly do not recommend any company that resorts to such tactics.

Traffic diversion at El Ingenio Centre on Friday 28 April: On Friday morning around 11-30 am the entrances to & the exit from El Ingenio onto Av Juan Carlos 1 were cordoned off and all traffic was redirected.
Does anyone know if it was a fun run for children that has taken place on a Friday in April in previous years ?
Having been redirected out of the centre, the roundabout on the A356 by the Repsol garage was cordoned off in the direction of Lidl and access was refused, therefore making it impossible to travel back onto Av Juan Carlos. This effectively closed off half the roads denying access to the chemist at El Tomillar on the Av del Sol & the nearby Mercadona store at that time.
For future reference it would be extremely helpful to know when this event was taking place and if it is publicised in advance. Thanking you in advance for any information that readers may have.

SPAIN

Meteorologists issue a serious warning- June, July and August heat waves will become more common and intense: {Translation, summary}
– According to information from the State Meteorological Agency , summers in Spain have been heating up since the 1980s, with increasingly common and intense heat waves. Summers have been shown to be getting longer, lasting five more weeks and increasing at a rate of nine days per decade.
– This year 2023, we are experiencing exceptionally high temperatures since the beginning of spring. We are experiencing one of the worst droughts in Spain since 1970 , and there are areas of the country where it has not rained for more than 100 days since the beginning of the year.
– Predictions indicate that May, June and July will bring temperatures much higher than usual in our country. In particular, it will be much hotter than normal in the interior and hotter than normal in the rest of the country, except in the Canaries, where temperatures could be slightly above average. Police and civil guards react- the new Housing Law is “obstructing” the operations against ‘squatters’: {Translation, summary}
– They criticize the fact that their opinion has not been taken into account, as was the case with the failed reform of the ‘gag law’.
– Several unions of the National Police and associations of the Civil Guard have shown their misgivings after approving the Congress the Housing Law considering that it can “hinder” operationally their actions against ‘squatters’ and also in cases of evictions. The criticism is based on the fact that the Government has not taken into account their opinion, as already happened with the failed reform of the ‘gag law’ on citizen security.
– “The new Housing Law does nothing but deepen the insecurity already suffered by police officers in such situations,” said Hugo del Prado, spokesman for JUPOL. According to this police union, with this norm “they will not be able to intervene by surprise as they will have to communicate the day and time in advance of the police intervention for the eviction of the occupied dwelling”.
– The new law incorporates a battery of legal modifications to make evictions of people in a situation of economic vulnerability more difficult, especially when the lessor is a large property holder, and evictions will be prevented when a conciliation act has not been attempted.
– The Executive stressed the difference between actions for non-payment, which requires a court review of the rent default, and is not technically squatting, and those cases in which action is taken against ‘squatters’ who occupy properties unannounced. ANDALUCIA

The unions estimate the protesters in Andalusia at 40,000. They warn employers- “There will be a conflict if they do not raise wages”: {Translation}
– More than 40,000 people, according to UGT-A and CCOO-A have mobilized this May 1 – International Workers’ Day – in the various demonstrations called by the two major trade union centers in the eight Andalusian provinces, with the participation of the two general secretaries, Carmen Castilla and Nuria Lopez, in the march of Jaen and with a “clear warning” to the employers: “Either wages rise or there will be labor unrest”.
– Nuria López insisted on the need to “share profits and raise salaries: to put aside corporate greed”, she stressed. “We ask the Government not to give European funds to companies that are unsupportive and yes to those that are co-responsible”. “We cannot allow the cost of inflation to always be borne by working people, without raising wages, when wages are the “fuel that moves this country,” added Lopez. “If this is not the case, we will not be able to go shopping and many self-employed and cooperatives will close: it will be the responsibility of those selfish big companies, which do not put their part of the deal, which is to raise wages.” Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1256331/los-sindicatos-cifran-en-40000-los-manifestantes-en-andalucia/

Is This The Great Recovery President Sanchez Claims? Bankruptcy filings soar in Malaga and the rest of Andalucía: {Translation, summary}
– The insolvency proceedings filed in the Andalusian courts have grown by 199 percent in the last year, an increase that was already expected by business owners due to the economic situation, the return of ICO credits and the end of the moratorium that exempts debtors in a state of insolvency from filing for insolvency proceedings, which took place at the end of June 2022.
– In Andalusia there are a total of 15 courts with exclusive competence in commercial matters, which last year received 12 percent more cases, although the most common has been the number of insolvency proceedings, which has grown considerably again in 2022. In total, there have been 2,507 insolvencies compared to 838 the previous year, according to the annual report of the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), consulted by Europa Press.
– In recent years the holders of these courts have seen a general increase in insolvency proceedings until 2020, which declined due to the pandemic. In 2021 they increased, despite the legally established moratorium due to the crisis generated by the covid, but in 2022 the figure has shot up 199 percent more than the previous year.
– Seville and Malaga are the provinces where there is a higher number of filings, but in all provinces there is still a high number of pending insolvency proceedings at the end of the year, due in part to the accumulated pendency of previous years. The provinces with the highest pendency are Malaga, Seville, Cadiz and Granada, in that order. AXARQUIA

The Board rebukes Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas for coming to complain rather than promote desalination in the Axarquia: {Translation, summary}
– The territorial delegate of Agriculture and Water in the province of Malaga, Fernando Fernández Tapia-Ruano wanted to “reproach” the attitude of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, on his visit to the province of Malaga, because “instead of coming to commit and exercise leadership by asking the third vice president, Teresa Ribera, for a firm commitment to desalination in this province, he has been dedicated to launching reproaches and putting  obligations on others,” said Fernandez Tapia-Ruano Fernandez.
– According to Fernandez Tapia-Ruano Fernandez, “what Malaga’s residents expected is that Planas commits to these desalination works that, for some time, have been demanded from the Government of Spain, because it is their responsibility. Similarly, “what farmers of Malaga wanted was that the minister had heeded the requests made by Andalucia and that the tax rebate will reach 50 percent, and not 25 percent as approved by the Government”.

MALAGA

Tesla boosts its supercharger network for electric cars in Malaga & Antequera:
– The company, which has had a charging station at El Higuerón since 2018, is finalising the installation of another dozen of its distinctive power outlets on one of the parking areas at the Plaza Mayor retail park in Malaga city. This was confirmed to SUR by some local owners of these vehicles, who said that several of the new points will be “of the latest generation”, with the capacity to charge at a rate of 250 kilowatt hours.
– With a view to making things easier for drivers who need to travel between Malaga and other destinations in Andalucía and across Spain, Tesla is also finalising the installation of another similar facility at a key point on the N-331, near Antequera. That is also expected to be operational before the summer. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/tesla-boosts-its-supercharger-network-for-electric-20230501114020-nt.html

TECH

New Atomic MacOS Malware Steals Keychain Passwords and Crypto Wallets:
– Threat actors are advertising a new information stealer for the Apple macOS operating system called Atomic macOS Stealer (or AMOS) on Telegram for $1,000 per month, joining the likes of MacStealer. Threat actors who purchase the stealer from its developers are also provided a ready-to-use web panel for managing the victims.
– “The Atomic macOS Stealer can steal various types of information from the victim’s machine, including Keychain passwords, complete system information, files from the desktop and documents folder, and even the macOS password,” Cyble researchers said in a technical report. This includes information stored in web browsers (e.g., passwords, autofill, cookies, credit card data).
– The development is another sign that MacOS is increasingly becoming a lucrative target beyond nation-state hacking groups to deploy stealer malware, making it imperative that users only download and install software from trusted sources, enable two-factor authentication, review app permissions, and refrain from opening suspicious links received via emails or SMS messages. FINANCIAL

Another US Bank Collapse: Shares of several regional lenders fell on Monday after the collapse of First Republic Bank, the third major casualty of the biggest crisis to hit the U.S. banking sector since 2008. The crisis unraveled after the closure of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank in March that led to deposit outflows from smaller lenders and fueled fears of similar liquidity crunches at peers. While investors digested the rescue engineered over the weekend by regulators for First Republic’s assets with a pinch of salt, Wall Street analysts were largely sanguine about the deal.
“This marks (the) second largest failure on record. Still, unlike Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, the FDIC had a buyer waiting in the wings,” said analysts at Barclays. (A buyer was already lined up? Sounds like this is just a scam by the big banks to bypass anti-monopoly laws and acquire the competition. Quite clearly, the misguided policy of “self regulation” in banking is a failure, just like it is with the pharmaceutical industry & big tech. -Ed.) CULTURE

Mothers’ Day celebrated in Spain on the first Sunday in May:
– This Sunday, 7 March, is Mothers’ Day this year in Spain. Unlike Fathers’ Day (19 March), there is no fixed date for it- it always falls on the first Sunday in May.
– May 1965 was when Mothers’ Day was moved to May in Spain, because it is the month of the Virgin, and the authorities opted for the first Sunday of that month, as did those in Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal and South Africa, among others. However, in other parts of the world it is still celebrated on the second Sunday in May, such as in Germany, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, China, Croatia, Cuba, Ecuador, the Philippines and Italy. Spain bans ‘dwarf bullfights’:
– Spanish lawmakers on Thursday banned bullfighting events featuring people with dwarfism wearing costumes, a move welcomed by disability rights groups but opposed by the actual performers. Groups of people with dwarfism dressed as firefighters have long entertained audiences by chasing young bulls without killing them, in shows considered to be comic.
– While the numbers of self-styled “dwarf toreros” are dwindling, so-called “dwarf bullfights” can still been seen, especially during festivals honouring a town’s patron saint. The law approved in parliament on Thursday prohibits “shows or recreational activities in which people with disabilities, or this circumstance, are used to provoke mockery or ridicule from the public”.
