Tourist Housing Is Out Of Control In Malaga, Torrox, Nerja & Others: {Translation, summary}
– In the centre of the capital, but also in the Arrabal de Fontanalla, in Lagunillas and, increasingly, in Trinidad-Perchel, there is no area around La Almendra de Málaga where there is not a proliferation of the famous AT signs indicating that entire buildings have ceased to belong to the common people and have become tourist properties.
– And to corroborate this are the data provided this Thursday from the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU), which has warned that the number of dwellings for tourist use (VUT) in the capital and the province “has grown by 25% in the last 12 months”, in addition to the fact that we are facing a phenomenon that already reaches “94% of the municipalities of Malaga”.
– The consumer association has pointed out that, according to data from the Tourism Register of the Junta de Andalucía to which it has had access, there has been exponential growth throughout the province in the last year, as shown by the fact that the ratio of tourist homes per household (taking into account 2.5 people per household as stated by the INE) exceeds 10% in 10 municipalities in the province: Benalmádena, Estepona, Frigiliana, Fuengirola, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas, Ojén, Torremolinos and Torrox.

– OCU has insisted that local councils “promote a public rental housing stock in their municipalities”.
– Similarly, and in order to encourage the private rental housing market, they believe it is necessary to provide security to landlords to lease their homes, guaranteeing the possibility of recovering them within a reasonable period in the event of non-payment, damage or any other serious non-compliance.
– Finally, the OCU recalled the recent Decree 31/2024, of 29 January, which modifies various provisions on tourist accommodation in Andalusia, which states that “for imperative reasons of general interest, limitations may be established, proportionate to this reason, with regard to the maximum number of tourist accommodation per building, sector, area, period, area or zone. Such limitations shall be based on clear, unambiguous and objective criteria”.

Parliament adopts reform of the EU electricity market, new mechanism to smooth out price spikes and troughs:
– The reform adopted on Thursday will make the EU electricity market more stable, affordable, and sustainable. The measures, composed of a regulation and a directive already agreed upon with the Council, were adopted with 433 in favour, 140 against and 15 abstentions, and 473 votes to 80, with 27 abstentions, respectively.
– The law will protect consumers against volatile prices. MEPs ensured that they will have the right to access fixed-price contracts or dynamic price contracts, and receive important information on the options they sign up to. Suppliers will not be allowed to unilaterally change the terms of a contract.
– MEPs also secured that EU countries can prohibit suppliers from cutting the electricity supply of vulnerable customers, including during disputes between suppliers and customers. Italy Introduces Digital Nomad Visa for Foreign Remote Workers Making At Least €28,000/yr:
– From April 4, foreigners are eligible to stay in Italy in a legal way for a period of up to a year through this scheme. The visa can be renewed annually.
– In order to benefit from it, applicants are required to earn €28,000 (£23,992.50) per year or more and have health insurance and accommodation arranged for the period they plan to remain in Italy. Applicants should also ensure that they haven’t been found guilty of a crime in the past five years.
– Those interested in this scheme are also required to prove that they have been working as digital nomads or remote workers elsewhere for at least six months before.

Shortage of doctors in Spain: the sector foresees a deficit of 9,000 specialists until 2027 and especially in primary care: {Translation, summary}

Authorities in Spain warn of ‘chain’ theft of WhatsApp accounts- this is how it works and what to do if you fall victim:
– Spain’s National Institute of Cybersecurity (Incibe) has issued a warning of “chain thefts of WhatsApp accounts”.
– It comes after the case of a man who contacted authorities concerned after he had lost access to his account. One day received a message from his son telling him he had had a problem with his WhatsApp account and that he was going to send him a code by SMS which he needed him to provide. After receiving the code, the person sent it to his son via WhatsApp, immediately and without thinking, so he could resolve the alleged incident.
– Within minutes, it was he himself who lost access to his account. He tried to activate it again, was able to insert the first code requested, but was subsequently asked for a second verification code that never arrived on his phone. He then phoned his son for help and discovered that the same thing had happened to him, so it was not his son who had asked for the code, but he had been a victim of a “chain” account theft. The next day, one of his contacts received a message from his account asking him for money because he was in financial trouble.
