The Government refuses to return the migrants and sends 82 pallets of camping equipment to Ceuta: {Trans, summary}
– The government has sent a ship to Ceuta loaded with 82 pallets of camping equipment for the illegal immigrants arriving in the city. – Residents complain that the government has been “absent” and is now going to turn neighbourhoods like theirs into “veritable ghettos.” They criticize the fact that children can’t go to the parks because of the unsanitary conditions created by undocumented immigrants, and now, to make matters worse, they won’t be able to go to sports centers or participate in competitions, leaving Ceuta residents feeling like “foreigners in their own land.”
– The residents of Ceuta have reacted this way after the draft of the royal decree detailing the spaces the Government intends to designate for undocumented immigrants was leaked. These include sports centers, the parking lot at the Loma Colmenar holding area, the Military Hospital, Defense land in Loma Margarita, the equestrian center, the former football field at the cavalry barracks, and unused areas of the Colonel Fiscer barracks. – Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will appear before the Congress of Deputies on September 3rd to explain the government’s handling of the crisis in Ceuta following the arrival of more than 70,000 migrants on July 30th and 31st. Several parliamentary groups demanded that Sánchez’s appearance should be brought forward, after his initial proposal was made to them for September 9.
– According to the government, approximately 5,000 remain in the autonomous city, though the exact number has not yet been specified. So far, the Ministers of the Interior and Defense, Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Margarita Robles, have given conflicting accounts of what warnings were issued to the Ceuta government delegation beforehand.
– Robles asserted on Tuesday that the National Intelligence Center (CNI) had warned the Government Delegation in the autonomous city the day before about the call, circulated on social media, to “swim in.” However, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska later stated that there was “no report” alerting them to this. Various government sources have told RTVE that Robles’s words were not accepted within the Executive branch.
– The Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, who is scheduled to appear this Thursday, said in an interview on the TV program “Mañaneros” on La 1 that Marlaska was “clear ” in his explanations regarding the information they had before the arrival of thousands of migrants. They were warned of an increase in arrivals, of about 1,000 people in the previous seven days, but what actually happened “was not foreseeable,” said the minister, who has been appointed as the sole commander for the crisis.
– The PSOE ‘s parliamentary spokesperson, Patxi López, stated at a press conference in Congress that the explanations given by Robles and Marlaska “could both be true ” because the National Intelligence Center (CNI) likely warned of a possible “migration of people across the sea” at the border, based on social media posts, but “what they probably failed to grasp was the extraordinary scale of this phenomenon,” involving up to 70,000 people. Had this been known, resources deployed would have been “infinitely greater,” López insisted.
– For his part, the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas , asserted that the “border breach and violation of territorial integrity” that occurred with the mass influx of migrants “could have been avoided,” as there had been prior warnings. – The three-time Tony-nominee and winner of a Daytime Emmy Award, Curry will forever be known for creating the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the “sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania,” in The Rocky Horror Show stage production and follow-up film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Curry met the show’s composer, lyricist, and book writer Richard O’Brien when Curry was in the London production of Hair in 1968 and O’Brien was in the touring company.
