New Show at the Villa de Torrox Theatre: Tonight, Friday, Dec 9th, 8pm
GALERIA by Jose Maldonado
Galería is defined as a contemporary and multidisciplinary show where three languages are combined: dance, which uses flamenco as an initial axis, plastic art, with an exhibition of pictorial work and live creation of a new work, and audiovisual language, with an interactive piece that unites the three languages. The purpose of this show is to introduce the spectator to a welcoming, unconventional visual and sound atmosphere in which the different choreographies take place, in a bold and versatile 360o staging. José Maldonado presents four solo scenes in which he pays tribute to art and culture, to the figures of four famous Spanish artists. Falla, Lorca, Dalí and Carmen Amaya inspire Maldonado in the creation of this marvellous cultural promenade.

SPAIN

25% of companies do not have enough liquidity to pay their debts, Andalucia has lowest liquidity ratio in Spain: {Translation}
– Twenty-five percent of Spanish businesses have insufficient liquidity ratios to pay their debts, despite the extraordinary financial support provided to companies due to the pandemic.
– This is according to a study carried out by Iberinform, the subsidiary of Crédito y Caución, which has analysed the average liquidity ratio of a sample of more than 230,000 Spanish companies, based on their annual accounts for the last three financial years filed with the Mercantile Register.
– Its conclusion is that one in four companies shows liquidity ratios of less than one, which means that the business is facing payment difficulties as its short-term debts exceed the assets and rights available to meet them.
– Manufacturing companies have the highest liquidity (1.78), followed by communications (1.75) and extractive industries (1.74).
– The worst liquidity ratios are found in hotels and catering (1.21) and agriculture, livestock and fishing (1.45).
– By size, the study shows that large companies have the lowest liquidity ratios (1.48), because too high values of this magnitude are indicative of idle assets that lead to a loss of profitability.
– Medium-sized (1.62) and small (1.70) companies show higher values, which implies that they work with a greater margin of safety in the face of possible fluctuations in their assets and liabilities.
– The ratio of micro enterprises (1.59) does not follow this inverse scale, an indicator that they have greater difficulties in financing themselves.
– The study also indicates that the highest average liquidity ratios are recorded in Melilla (2), Navarre (1.8), the Basque Country (1.77), La Rioja (1.76) and Catalonia (1.72), while the lowest are in Andalusia (1.49), Madrid (1.54), Castile-La Mancha (1.54) and Extremadura (1.57).

ANDALUCIA

Primary care doctors threaten strike action in January:
– Strikes are planned by primary care doctors in Malaga province and across Andalucía next month if an agreement is not reached with the regional Ministry of Health to ensure immediate improvements in working conditions and pay.
– In addition to the strike planned for January, if negotiations with the Health Ministry do not bear fruit, the SMP will participate in a rally organised by Marea Blanca to be held on Saturday 17 December in the Plaza de la Merced in Malaga to demand improvements in Andalusian healthcare, especially in the primary care sector.

ALMUNECAR

The Casa de la Cultura de Almuñecar hosts the exhibition ‘Treasures of devotion’: {Translation}
– The exhibition ‘Treasures of devotion Art and tradition in private devotions’ (‘Tesoros de devoción Arte y tradición en las devociones particulares’) can be visited until the 14th of December in the ‘Rowland Fade’ exhibition hall of the Casa de la Cultura in Almuñécar, from 11am to 2pm in the morning and from 5pm to 8pm in the afternoon.
– The exhibition includes 80 pieces of imagery, sculpture and painting, which have been donated for the exhibition “and which are works of art but also pieces of the heart of each one of us”, according to the curator of this exhibition Juan Francisco Martínez Zamora, brother of this brotherhood and curator of the exhibition, as it brings together memories and experiences of numerous neighbours.
– “The exhibition is divided into four areas dedicated to the Virgin, Christmas images, the Passion of Christ and the Resurrection. It is an exhibition to be seen carefully, calmly, carefully and observing its details, while at the same time enjoying listening to the Gregorian music that accompanies it”, explained Martínez Zamora. UK

UK border control strikes threaten Christmas travel chaos to and from Spain:
– Planned industrial action by British border force staff is threatening to complicate or even ruin Christmas travel plans for thousands of people going between Spain and the UK over the festive period.
– The planned strike action would take place from December 23rd until December 26th and then from December 28th to New Year’s Eve.
– The UK’s Home Secretary Suella Braverman warned travellers heading to and from the UK over Christmas and New Year to expect severe disruption and to rethink travel plans if strike action goes ahead. “Passengers should also expect flight cancellations due to staff shortages,” they added, “so should keep in touch with their airlines before travel.” Full article: https://www.thelocal.es/20221208/uk-border-strikes-threaten-christmas-travel-chaos-to-and-from-spain/

TRAVEL NEWS

Passengers on EU Flights Will Soon Be Able to Make Calls While On-Board, For a Price:
– The deadline for the EU countries to make 5G frequency bands available for planes has been set to June 30, 2023, and this means that everyone will be able to use their phones to make calls as soon as the next summer.
– According to the Commission, the decision to implement mobile communications on board lays the groundwork for the widespread deployment of 5G services. The same has explained that the service will be provided within the cabin that uses special network equipment – picocell – to connect the users and text, calls, and data, between the plane and the mobile network based on the ground.
– Lonely Planet explains that through the picocell technology, passengers will be able to use their phone through mobile data rather than wi-fi. Moreover, the same source explained that the use of phones on the plane will be able since the frequencies of the 5G are different from those needed for flying a plane.
– Regarding the cost of the service, Lonely Planet noted that such information is not clear yet. However, the service is not expected to be free. Full article: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/passengers-on-eu-flights-will-soon-be-able-to-make-calls-while-on-board/

TECH

Scary looking “air-purifying” Dyson Zone headphones, with external sound cancellation and smartphone sync, will reach Spain in June 2023- The next step in personal isolation:
– The Dyson Zone, high-fidelity headphones with active noise cancellation and air purification features, because of electrostatic filters that collect 99 percent of pollution, have been introduced by Dyson. This new product will start to be offered in China in January, and it’s expected to reach the Spanish market in June 2023.
– They provide advanced noise cancelling technology (ANC), programmable in three ways, from isolation to conversation and transparency, that enables users to be aware of the sounds around them. In addition to enabling you to chat on the phone using a technology of formation of twin microphone beams and noise suppression, the maker claims that this product offers immersive hearing since it adapts to heads of various sizes and geometries.
– The electrostatic filter media of the air filter apparatus collects 99 percent of ultrafine particle pollution, including allergens and those from sources like air dust or construction, down to 0.1 microns.
– Then, it has a second layer, K-Carbon, which is loaded with potassium to trap the city’s damaging gases, like NO2, SO2, and O3, and neutralizes offensive scents from the environment, such as sewage, stale subway air, or construction fumes. FINANCIAL

Brussels wants to require crypto-asset providers to report transactions by EU residents: {Translation, summary}
– The European Commission on Thursday proposed requiring cryptoasset providers, such as bitcoin trading or exchange applications, to report transactions by customers resident in the European Union (EU), whether domestic or cross-border, to improve member states’ ability to detect and combat tax fraud, evasion and avoidance.
– “The cover of anonymity, the fact that there are currently more than 9,000 different crypto-assets available and the inherent digital nature of trading mean that many crypto-asset users who are making huge profits go unnoticed by national tax authorities,” explained European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni. He stressed that the Commission’s proposal will allow member states to obtain the information they need to ensure that tax is paid on profits made from trading or investing in crypto-assets, as with any other financial asset.
– The rules of this framework will enter into force on 1 January 2026, a similar timetable to that followed by all jurisdictions that have agreed to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) cryptoasset reporting framework, including the United States. CULTURE

2022 Turner Prize goes to Veronica Ryan:
– At 66, the British sculptor became the oldest recipient of the Turner Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious accolades for visual arts.
– The tension was almost palpable at Liverpool’s venerable St. George’s Hall on Wednesday (07.12.2022), where the winner of the Turner Prize was announced. Veronica Ryan was recognized with the prestigious award, which comes with a prize money payment of £25,000.
– “Power, visibility. Thank you so much,” she beamed as she took the podium. She thanked those “who’ve looked out for me when I wasn’t visible and I was making work from rubbish.”
– Along with Ryan, Heather Phillipson, Ingrid Pollard and Sin Wai Kin were also among the nominees for the Turner Prize; the shortlist was unveiled in April. Their works have been on display at Tate Liverpool since October and will stay there until mid-March 2023. Shortlisted artists each took home £10,000. Photo: Jonathan Brady. Full article: https://www.dw.com/en/2022-turner-prize-goes-to-veronica-ryan/a-64025040
