MALAGA

Andalucia Big Festival, that Junta paid €3.5million of public money on last year, will not be staged this year, according to promoter Mad Cool:
– Andalucia Big Festival, headlined by big names such as Muse, Jamiroquai and Franz Ferdinand last year, will not be returning for a second edition in 2023. According to the promoter Mad Cool, the change in the new Andalucian government delayed negotiations for a second festival and therefore made it unfeasible to secure a strong line-up.
– But Mad Cool’s co-director Javier Arnaiz did not rule out returning to Malaga in the future. “It has everything to have a first class festival,” he said.
Editor’s Observation: Millions in public funds were spent to finance the 2022 event that few residents attended, and who were never given a chance to vote on it, where the promoters were allowed to keep the profits without reimbursing the public coffers. The Junta says it is justified because it stimulated the local economy. What, for one weekend businesses in the immediate area did good? And all of Andalucía paid for that? Sounds to me like a charity event to benefit the concert promoters at the expense of the public. In most places, concert promoters pay the local gov’t for an event permit, as well as fees for the use of public services & lands, insurance, temporary vending permits, police & traffic, water & power, etc. Promoters make money on their investment financing a concert from ticket sales, merch sales, advertising sales and hospitality sales. If a promoter cannot produce a profitable event without receiving handouts, they are in the wrong business. As you can see from the 2022 concert photo below, the attendance didn’t justify the expense, and the promoter should have known that from advance ticket sales long before the show occurred. Weak attendance means the benefit to local businesses was similarly small. OK, concert promotion can be a risky business. Perhaps they had good intentions and a bad business plan. Yet, they want to repeat this mistake? Please find a promoter who is willing to pay Andalucía for the privilege of promoting a mega-concert here, not one who requires millions in subsidies to do so.  “Rock In Rio- Lisboa” is one such successful production, in nearby Portugal. EUROPE

EU Countries Adopt “Trump’s Solution” Building Fences All Around Their Borders With Third Countries & This Is How They Look:
– The increasing number of illegal migrants reaching the European Union and Schengen Area Member States has pushed the latter to take different approaches to tackle their activity, including here by putting physical barriers at the borders.
– An official document presented to the Members and staff of the European Parliament in 2022 shows that between 2014, and 2022, the physical barriers at 19 EU external borders grew from 315 km to 2,048 km. This means that approximately 13 per cent, or 1,535 kilometres, of EU external land borders were fenced off, in 2022, when the report was published. “Two main official reasons are put forward for building border fences: to prevent irregular migration and combat terrorism,” the document points out.
– It further reveals that the first border fences in Europe were built by Spain in the early 1990s, to prevent irregular migration into its enclaves in Morocco – Ceuta and Melilla. The number of fences across Europe, however, mainly increased following the migratory crisis of 2015/2016. Photo of Greek fence: Twitter account, Prime Minister of Greece. Latvia reintroduces compulsory military service: Riga is following the lead of other Baltic NATO members who feel threatened by Russia. Lithuania reintroduced conscription a few years ago while Estonia never abolished it. There have not been any national opinion polls conducted on the topic recently. But a study in May 2022 found that 45% of Latvians were in favor of conscription while 42% opposed it, Maris Andzans, a professor at Riga Stradins University, wrote in a Februrary briefing for the Washington-based Center for European Policy Analysis. Golf News- Ailing Woods withdraws from Masters due to foot injury: Tiger Woods withdrew from the Masters due to injury before the weather-delayed third round resumed on Sunday at Augusta National in cold conditions, the latest physical setback of the decorated golfer’s career. Woods, who has been playing a limited schedule on a rebuilt leg following a car crash in 2021, was six over par after seven holes and his limp had become decidedly more pronounced by the time play was suspended for the day on Saturday. TECH

Outlook blocking email functions for some users after policy change:
– A group of Outlook users has run into email sending and receiving issues since February 2023. The issue is linked to a change that Microsoft announced some time ago and came into effect on February 1, 2023 in a staged rollout.
– Basically, what Microsoft did was add Outlook attachments data to the available storage space on OneDrive. The change meant, for some users, that they suddenly found that they had exceeded their available storage quota. Microsoft customers who sign-up for a free Microsoft Account get 5 gigabytes of storage space. Grandfathered account may have access to more, for instance 15 gigabytes, the previous limit, or more thanks to certain promotions in the past that rewarded participants with additional permanent storage space.
– Microsoft confirmed the change on this support page. There, the company notes that “starting February 1, 2023, cloud storage used across Microsoft 365 apps and services will include Outlook.com attachments data and OneDrive data”. Consequently, the update “may reduce how much cloud storage you have available to use with your OneDrive”.
– Affected users have only three options to deal with the issue:
1) Buy additional storage space by upgrading to a higher tier OneDrive or Microsoft 365 plan.
2) Remove attachments and other large data from Outlook to free up space and get used storage below the quota.
3) Switch to another email provider.
– Microsoft’s calculation, probably, is that many customers may not have the desire to go through their emails to remove large attachments (to go back below the limit) to restore the ability to send and receive files. Upgrading to a paid plan resolves the issue immediately. Switching to another email provider is even more complex, as it may require changing email addresses at services and sites, and informing contacts about the change. Nine weird (and wonderful) museums in Spain: Spain is home to some of the finest museums in the world, but it also boasts some of the most bizarre. When you get sick of gazing at Goya, marvelling at Miró and peering at Picasso, why not visit some of Spain’s more, how shall we put it, ‘specialised’ museums. From the museum dedicated entirely to melons to the museum of urinals, The Local counts down Spain’s weirdest. Photos: Wikipedia. Mick Mars sues Mötley Crüe, claims he was only member to play completely live on recent tour:
– Mick Mars is spilling the dirt on his Mötley Crüe bandmates in a new lawsuit. Mars (real name Robert Alan Deal) filed the legal papers in Los Angeles County’s Superior Court on Thursday, demanding to review the various accounts for Mötley Crüe. In the lawsuit, the band’s founding guitarist alleges that the rest of the legendary rock outfit attempted to fire him and cut him off from their various businesses and profit percentages after he announced his retirement from touring last October.
– It also, however, accuses bandmate Nikki Sixx of “gaslighting” Mars by taunting him on the most recent tour with accusations him of poor musicianship. Mars counters by claiming he was the only Mötley Crüe member playing completely live on the tour, and that Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, and vocalist Vince Neil all used recordings for some or all of their performances.
– Sixx, the suit alleges, “did not play a single note on bass during the entire U.S. tour.” It continues, “Ironically, 100% of Sixx’s bass parts were nothing but recordings. Sixx was seen fist pumping in the air with his strumming hand, while the bass part was playing.”
– The suit goes on to claim that a significant portion of Neil’s vocals were also pre-recorded” and that “even some of Lee’s drum parts were recordings.”
– Mars has suffered from AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis) since the age of 27, but the condition has worsened in recent years. As a result, Mars informed his fellow band members that Mötley Crüe’s 2022 tour would be his last. According to Mars, he was still willing to record music and participate in potential residencies in Las Vegas or elsewhere, but he could no longer handle the rigors of the road.
– “How did Mars’s brothers of 41 years respond to Mars’s tragic announcement?” the lawsuit reads. “They noticed an emergency shareholders’ meeting for the band’s main corporate entity in order to throw Mars out of the band, to fire him as a director of the corporation, to fire him as an officer of the corporation, and to take away his shares of the corporation. When he did not go away quietly, they purported to fire him from six additional band corporations and LLCs.” Full article: https://ew.com/music/mick-mars-sues-says-he-was-only-member-to-play-live-on-most-recent-tour/ & Video Link
