You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. SPAIN
Meteorologists issue warning with weather forecast this week: {Translation, summary}
– The beginning of next week will be quite similar to this Sunday, with temperatures even higher than on previous days in the southeastern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Thus, this exceptional Easter week in terms of temperature fluctuations will end as one of the driest since records began, which will aggravate the meteorological drought and the country’s hydrological deficit.
– “At @MeteoredES (Twitter) we have been warning for some time that if it does not rain for the rest of the spring, it will be a very hard summer. Let’s remember that in some areas of the southwest and Catalonia, among others, the drought has been practically prolonged for some years now. And so far this deficit has not diminished in these months, but rather increased”, explains meteorologist Samuel Biener in his forecast for the coming days.
– “Unfortunately, there is no good news for the time being,” he continues. According to the weather portal’s reference model, “the most likely scenario in the medium and long term is that a more or less zonal circulation will return to prevail at high latitudes, with fronts affecting the north and some possible overcasting. In short, it will not rain in most of Spain. In the most needy regions, the situation could actually worsen.
– As for the temperature forecasts that Meteored is handling, “temperatures would be 1 to 3 ºC above the climatic average for these dates in almost the whole country, and the anomaly could be higher in some parts of the centre and west of the peninsula”. To round off this “worrying” forecast, it could “rain considerably less than normal in a large part of Spain” for the rest of April.
– “For the moment, there are no favourable situations in sight for those areas where rainfall is most needed”, concludes Biener. “If this scenario comes true, it would be somewhat worrying for the summer, and we would have to wait until May, which would have to be a historic month for there to be a noticeable improvement in the current situation”. Self-employed denounce that their turnover is not growing despite the recovery of activity, 85% face cost rises: {Translation, 1st 3 paragraphs}
– Inflation is taking its toll on the self-employed. Despite having recovered activity, four out of five self-employed workers consider that their business is the same or worse than a year ago, especially due to the increase in expenses. This is according to the 17th quarterly barometer published on Monday by the National Federation of Associations of Self-Employed Workers (ATA). “There is more activity in 2023, but the self-employed at the end of the month earn the same or less than in 2022,” said the president of ATA, Lorenzo Amor, during the presentation of the survey.
– Only 20.8% of the self-employed say that their business has grown in the last year, compared to 45.6% who believe that the situation has remained the same and 33.6% who consider that the evolution has been negative. The outlook is no better for the coming months, as only one in five self-employed expect their business to grow in the remainder of 2023, compared with 37.8% who think it will remain the same and 32% who think it will decline. This negative perception is reflected in turnover. Three out of four self-employed say that their income has remained the same (38%) or decreased (38.1%) compared to March 2022. Among those whose turnover has been affected, in most cases the fall has ranged between 10% and 15%.
– According to the ATA barometer, the survival of businesses in the last year has been marked by the increase in costs. 85.3% of those surveyed say that costs have increased compared to 2022. The majority (39.4%) put the increase at between 10% and 20%, although for one in four the rise has reached 30%. ATA stresses that expenses have increased more than income. “600,000 open their business every day knowing that they are going to have more expenses than income”, Amor lamented. As a result, two out of every three self-employed workers have passed on the increase in costs to their final prices. AXARQUIA
The terral shoots highs up to 30 degrees Celsius in another week without rain and with the La Viñuela reservoir at 10%: {Translation}
– The terral wind will once again push the maximum temperatures up to 30 degrees in the Axarquia in another week without rain and with the reservoir of La Viñuela accumulating only 16.82 cubic hectometres, at 10.23% of its total capacity and in a situation of extreme drought. Minimum temperatures will also rise slightly, reaching 14 degrees centigrade. This rise in maximum and minimum temperatures will not be so notable in the interior of the region.
– Wednesday 12th April, the maximum temperatures will be around 30 degrees in Axarquia. According to the initial forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 April, the maximum temperatures will evolve from 25 to 27 degrees, and it will not be until next Sunday 16th when they will start to drop again, although with no sign of rain. As far as the interior of the region is concerned, maximum temperatures this week will be between 23 and 27 degrees and minimum temperatures between 7 and 11 degrees.
– Looking ahead to Tuesday 11, partly cloudy or clear skies, except for intervals of low clouds and mist on the coast, with the possibility of fog. Minimum temperatures with little change; maximum temperatures in decline, except in the Antequera region where they will remain unchanged. Winds from the east, tending towards light variable winds.
– As far as the La Viñuela reservoir is concerned, at the beginning of this week it has only stored 16.82 cubic hectometres, which is only 10.23% of its total capacity. Seven days ago it had 16.95 hectometres, while a year ago it accumulated 27.64 cubic hectometres. The situation continues to be one of extreme drought in the Axarquia reservoir. Russia ‘using scorched earth tactics’ says Ukraine:
– Russian forces in Ukraine’s eastern city of Bakhmut are using the so-called “scorched earth” tactics they had resorted to in Syria, a Ukrainian commander said, adding that forces were destroying Ukrainian positions with airstrikes and artillery barrages. “The situation is difficult but controllable,” ground forces commander Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Monday, in comments quoted by Ukraine’s Media Military Center.
– Russian forces were striking western Bakhmut as well as the city of Avdiivka, Ukraine’s Armed Forces General Staff said on Sunday.
Syrskyi said that Moscow was deploying special forces and airborne assault units to the battle, to give the private mercenary Wagner group some rest. Wagner has spearheaded Russia’s assault on Bakhmut.
– Meanwhile, Denis Pushilin, the Russia-installed head of the eastern Ukrainian Donetsk region, posted on Monday a video of himself from the heavily destroyed Bakhmut. The video suggests Russian forces have already made significant gains there. Full article: https://www.dw.com/en/ukraine-updates-russia-using-scorched-earth-tactics/a-65271267

Apple just patched a pair of dangerous iOS and macOS security issues, so update now:
– Apple has fixed two zero-day flaws that were being actively exploited against users with iPhones, Macs, and iPad devices. The flaws could have allowed threat actors to take over victim’s devices, giving them full access to the endpoints, experts said. Apple did say it was aware of threat actors abusing the zero-days in the wild, but did not discuss the details.
– A “zero day” threat is a security flaw for which the vendor of the flawed system has yet to make a patch available to affected users. The name ultimately derives from the world of digital content piracy: if pirates were able to distribute a bootleg copy of a movie or album on the same day it went on sale legitimately (or maybe even before), it was dubbed a “zero day.”

Microsoft Now Enables Anyone Make Deep-Fake Photos From Their Edge Browser: – Microsoft ha launched globally its imager based on the Dall-E Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, Image Creator,which is available to all users of Edge in the desktop version and that will make it possible to create images from a short text. The technology company already indicated in March that would implement this feature in previous versions of the Bing search engine and the Edge browser, adding to this the ability to create images to that of creating text with its ‘chatbot’ function.
– Now, Microsoft has released Image Creator, which is already available for Edge users “worldwide”, as announced on his official blog. In this way, he continues to implement functions in the browser with the aim of enhance “productivity and creativity” of the users.
– Thus, the Image Creator tool is able to generate images “that don’t exist yet” hand in hand with its partners open AI, specifically with the technology of the “latest” Dall-E models. This function will be located in the Edge right sidebar, along with other search engine tools. In this way, as Microsoft explains, to create images users will have to click on the Image Creator icon, after which a pop-up window will open in which you must write a short description of the desired image. As a result, Image Creator will display four image options so that the user can choose which one is the most suitable for their intentions
– Editor’s Note: All you have to do is write a short description, and 4 photos will appear for you to review and save! So if I write “photo of the Pope kissing Jeffrey Epstein”, the result is an AI generated deep-fake that is a false image, yet would be very embarrassing to the Pope were it circulated on social media. What idiot thought this would be a good tool to release to the public? This type of tool, that will certainly be used for fraud, blackmail, and all manners of mischief, should require a licence and bond to access. Yet in their ultimate wisdom, Microsoft is providing everyone with free access. Boneheads!
