Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a freind/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCIA

Two months of Wednesday strikes for Primary doctors in Andalucia: {Translation, summary}
– A couple of days before the strike that the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA) had planned for 27 January in health centres, the SAS reached an agreement with the organisation that led it to call it off. The administration undertook to limit the agendas of family doctors to a total of 35 patients per day and 25 children in the case of paediatricians. Two months later, and in view of the “lack of compliance” with that agreement, the SMA has called not one but seven days of strike action.
– The general practitioners and paediatricians are called to stop from 8:00 to 20:00 every Wednesday from 12 April to 25 May; that is, the two months of pre-campaign and election campaign for the municipal elections on the 28th of that month. “The agreement has not been implemented; there is a lack of compliance with the commitment that prevented the strike [on 27 January],” said Mariángeles Bernal, the primary care delegate of the Malaga Medical Union (SMM).
– The strike will last 12 hours, coinciding with the opening hours of health centres. Around 1,500 family doctors and paediatricians in primary care in the province of Malaga are called to take part in the demonstrations. They will be regional stoppages. But they will be complemented by rallies on these days which will rotate through the different provincial capitals. In the case of Malaga, these protests will take place on 26 April and 17 May. Andalusia extends another 15 days the ban on controlled burning as Board raises the risk of fires to medium level: {Translation, summary} 04/11/2023 12:18
– The Junta de Andalucía has decided to extend the exceptional suspension of agricultural burning for another fifteen days due to the particular climatic circumstances of this spring and within its forest fire prevention strategy.
– Thus, the burning of scrub, pastures and residues from forestry, phytosanitary treatments and other forestry work is prohibited, as well as the burning of stubble or residues in agricultural work carried out in the Forest Influence Zone (those that are 400 meters from those classified as forest areas) and the administrative authorizations in force for it are suspended. MALAGA

Malaga registers all-time record for temperatures in April: {Translation, summary}
– According to data from AEMET, the State Meteorological Agency, the weather station at the Costa del Sol-Malaga airport registered an incredible 33.5°C at 4pm  Monday, April 10, a historical record-high for the month in Spain.
– The 33.5°C recorded in the city of Malaga today set an all-time record, but that was not the maximum temperature in the province this Monday. Estepona was the town with the hottest temperatures, according to AEMET data, with 34.3°C at 5:10pm. It was also over 30°C in areas of the Guadalhorce Valley such as Álora which recorded 31.5°C and Coin where it hit 32.1°C. Other municipalities such as Benahavis experienced 32°C. In general, the coastal area of the Axarquia was the only area which, for the moment, remained sheltered from the terral today. Benalmádena to host first large-scale St George’s Day party:
– Benalmádena will host the first large-scale event to be held in the province to mark the feast of St George on Sunday 23 April, a day that will see the English honour one of the most venerated saints in Christianity. Organised in a similar format to the recent St David’s and St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the festivities will take place in Plaza de la Mezquita in Arroyo de la Miel from 2pm.
– Presented by the popular Costa singer, Tony Whitehouse, the event will offer a variety of live music, including tributes to iconic British bands and artists like Take That, Queen, Ed Sheeran and the Spice Girls. Other groups to perform will be the Rock and Roll Brothers and Rock of the Ages, although organisers are expecting to add more acts to the schedule.
– St George is not only the patron saint of England, but also of Aragon and Catalonia, among other places, so the organisers of the event in Benalmádena are hoping to attract more than just the patriotic English.

Britain braces for ‘unparalleled’ disruption from doctors’ strike: Junior doctors in Britain began a four-day strike over pay on Tuesday that is likely to cause unprecedented disruption to the state-funded National Health Service (NHS), prompting the government to warn of a risk to patient safety. Tens of thousands of junior doctors – qualified physicians who make up nearly half of the medical workforce – are striking for pay rises better aligned with inflation, in a walkout that follows a three-day doctors’ strike last month. SPACE

The annual Lyrid meteor shower begins April 15:
– According to NASA, the showers are active April 15-29, with the peak coming April 21 and 22. The meteors will appear to radiate from the constellation Lyra.
– The Lyrids are known for their fast and bright meteors. The constellation for which a meteor shower is named only serves to aid viewers in determining which shower they are viewing on a given night. The constellation is not the source of the meteors.
– Though not as fast or as plentiful as the famous Perseids in August, Lyrids can surprise watchers with as many as 100 meteors seen per hour. Sightings of these heavier showers occurred in 1803 (Virginia), 1922 (Greece), 1945 (Japan), and 1982 (U.S.). In general, 10-20 Lyrid meteors can be seen per hour during their peak.
– Lyrids don’t tend to leave long, glowing dust trains behind them as they streak through the Earth’s atmosphere, but they can produce the occasional bright flash called a fireball.
– Viewing Tips. The Lyrids are best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere during the dark hours (after moonset and before dawn). Find an area well away from city lights or street lights. Come prepared with a sleeping bag, blanket, or lawn chair. Lie flat on your back with your feet facing east and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. After about 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors. Be patient – the show will last until dawn, so you have plenty of time to catch a glimpse. An outdoor test of ‘MasterChef’ ends in a massive poisoning: {Translation, summary}
– After cooking each of the dishes, designed as a tribute to the marine world, a total of 120 diners sat down at the table to try the creations of the ‘Masterchef 11’ contestants. All of them were aquarium workers, who tasted the preparations surrounded by thousands of fish in the emblematic Res. A meal that, as revealed by one of the guests of the program, did not sit well with the diners, according to the affected person through her Twitter account hours before the broadcast of the gala. The user, who has privatized her account, assured in her post that “of 70 people, more than half” ended up ill.
– In a Twitter thread of four messages that can no longer be seen publicly, the diner shared a photo with four colleagues, recounting their experience after the meal: “All with gastroenteritis. The next night I had to go to the ER to get Primperan injected into my butt so I could stop vomiting. I lost 5 kilos in three days”, detailed the affected person, Irene. The Oceanogràfic worker continued to show her anger: “My company informed MasterChef of what happened. The following days we could not go to work. Public Health called us to investigate what happened but it came to nothing. I write this here because they have not even had the decency to write to us to apologize, “she assured in her tweets, now protected.
– The Valencian menu of ‘Masterchef 11’- what those affected by poisoning ate. Specifically, the dishes prepared by the applicants for the program and eaten by the people allegedly affected by the poisoning were:
1. Starter : Trip to India with Valencian clotxina. A dish with five different textures, based on mango and Indian spices as the main ingredients.
2. First course : Valencian molluscada with oyster, clam, romesco sauce and algae-based pesto.
3. Second course : Suquet thai sea bass, a stew with coconut, dates and peanuts.
4. Dessert : Japanese cheesecake and seaweed.
