Bio Beach Restaurant- El Morche:
-Wed. Nov. 9th at 11am. U3A Lectures Present: Book Signing with U3A Author Norma Kira Masip.
Chocolate Moon: Musings on a slice of history for people interested in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and its effects on children. I was one of them. Born during WWII in France, my tender years were far from conventional. My Catalan parents, political refugees having fled across the Pyrenees on foot in 1939 from the Spanish Civil War, were held in a Concentration Camp in France. Writing the book not only was it cathartic but facilitated my embracing total peace of mind, finally.
So Close: Synopsis: Nadia, a dedicated and successful social worker, falls in love with Pasco, a prisoner serving life in prison for murder. Pasco convinces Nadia that he is innocent of the crime. The portrayal of the lives of these two individuals takes the reader through uncharted ethnic, cultural and social situations that eventually bring light into the convoluted story. This thrilling tale, parts of it filtered through the lens of Nadia’s best friend, Kira, is based on a true story.
NOTES:
1) For this book signing special, I’m offering both for 25€. Copies of both books are available at Bio Beach Restaurant.
2) These U3A lectures are free, and you do not have to purchase the books, just order refreshments from Bio Beach. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade (right behind the church). We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com.
– Monday, Nov. 28 at 11 am: The U3A History Program presents Vikings Part II. Power Point Presentation: The Norsemen Warriors.

Sanchez on climate change- “it is the last decade to change course”: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has warned of the danger of inaction in the face of climate change because “humanity could not survive the impact” and said that “the recent disasters, weather show what the future holds”. He continued, “The science tells us that we are in the last decade that we have to change course. Must be the decade of action. Not planning. Not the promises. Not of the proposals. Of the Action,” he stressed in an article published in ‘The Country’, along with the president of Senegal, Macky Sall.
– “We will only be resilient to climate change if our land is resilient. Building resilience to drought disasters is the way to ensure the progress we can make on each of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially for the most vulnerable people,” they said.
– Meanwhile in Germany, they are rapidly returning to coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel of all, as a primary fuel source.

Mandatory training and insurance- the new prerequisites coming for dog ownership in Spain: {Translation}
– A free and compulsory training course and civil liability insurance to cover any damage caused by a dog will be required throughout Spain in order to own a dog once the future Animal Protection and Welfare Law has been passed, experts have confirmed.
– The law, which is still in parliamentary procedure, indicates that people who already have a dog when it comes into force will have two years to complete the course, while those who want to have one will have to complete the training, which will be valid indefinitely, before adopting the animal.
– The compulsory nature of the course “will facilitate responsible ownership” because “many times people are not aware of the responsibility involved”, said Royal Canin’s communications manager, Carlota de Lucas.
– In principle, the law specifies that the course will only apply to dogs, but Díez believes that “it should be compulsory for all pets”, without excluding any pet, from cats to turtles or canaries, among others.
– In reality, the course consists of “thinking for half an hour of your life about the consequences of adoption” and to do so in a uniform way, something that until now was raised in the survey through questions about the availability of time or economic resources to be able to care for an animal.
– For the project coordinator of Ecologistas en Acción, Theo Oberhuber, these courses do not offer great difficulties because they are more like “talks with basic advice that should be taken into account”.
– With regard to insurance, Oberhuber pointed out that “it already exists on the market” and “it will not be a reluctance for those who are thinking of adopting” as “we are talking about a small amount of money”. Díez added that in some regions such as Madrid this insurance “was already compulsory before”, so in his case it is not a big novelty and it is also focused on “animals considered potentially dangerous” as in the case of some specific breeds of dog. Activists glue hands to Goya frames at Prado museum:
– The two environmental activists stuck themselves to the frames of Goya’s famous ‘Las Majas’ paintings and scrawled graffiti referencing the “+ 1.5C” global temperature target on the wall. Both activists were detained, police said.
– The incident comes amid a wave of art gallery focused protests across Europe in recent weeks, including two protesters who threw tomato soup over Van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers at the National Gallery in London in October, and Italian activists glueing themselves to artworks. Plant thieves- this is how a woman steals the plants that adorned a street in Sanlúcar: {Translation}
– This has been a hot topic on some local FB pages recently. -Ed.
– The Sanlúcar Town Hall has published a video in which a lady is seen taking away several plants that had been planted in a flowerpot located on the public road. The incident took place in the middle of Calle Ancha, in the city centre, while other citizens were walking in the area. In the video that the City Council has posted on social networks, it can be seen how a woman, with a shopping trolley, stands next to the flower bed and is carrying a bag from which the plants that seconds before she had pulled out of the flower bed are sticking out.
– The Town Hall has described the incident as an “intolerable example of vandalism” and condemned the woman’s attitude: “Not like this”. Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1110682/video-asi-roba-una-senora-las-plantas-que-adornaban-una-calle-de-sanlucar/
