Storms Gerard and Fien set to bring widespread rain, snow and strong winds to Spain this week:

New train service on track to take walkers straight to the Caminito del Rey:
– A new rail service will soon make it easier for visitors to access the Caminito de Rey, the gorgeside path that attracts hundreds of walkers to Malaga province every day.
Tests have been carried out over the past week, with empty trains travelling between the city and El Chorro-Caminito del Rey station for driver training. The trains look familiar to many as they are the same model as that used on the local Cercanías lines, the Civia. It is expected that the service will officially open in March.
– The new train will make travel between Malaga city and this inland tourist destination much easier. Currently the only trains that stop at El Chorro station are those on the mid-distance service between Malaga and Seville. These run at a frequency of up to five trains in each direction every day, although the timetable is not very convenient for visitors to the Caminito. The Patient Ombudsman claims to have received 725 claims against the medical services in Malaga in 2022: {Translation, summary}
– The Patient Ombudsman released its 2022 Annual Report on Monday. According to the report, the organization received 725 complaints last year in the province of Malaga for alleged medical negligence, waiting list delays and other issues. This is the second highest figure in the autonomous community after Seville, where the organization registered 825. The figure represents a slight increase over 2021, when the association counted 690 cases at the provincial level.
– These numbers include both public and private healthcare claims, according to the Patient Ombudsman’s delegate in Malaga, lawyer Damian Vazquez. However, he assures that “the bulk” are against the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). Among the most denounced hospitals in the autonomous community -according to the organization- are the Clínico y el Regional, in second and third place respectively, after the Virgen del Rocío, in Seville, which tops the list in Andalusia.
– “We continue with the great ills of public healthcare from the previous legislature, which was already in the ICU. Attempts are being made to improve, but Malaga, after Seville, occupies the second and third most denounced hospitals,” said the lawyer. According to the report, after these two provinces come Cordoba with 386 complaints, Cadiz with 271, Granada with 167, Almeria with 99, and Jaen and Huelva tied with 74. In the region as a whole, the figure is 2,621 cases, 201 more than in 2021. This represents a 7.5% increase, according to the institution. In addition, Andalusia -with an average delay of 110 days- “is the fourth community with the highest rate for surgery”.
– Of the 725 complaints it claims to have received in the province, the association does not specify how many correspond to delays in care and how many to alleged medical negligence. Contract awarded for new Nerja Calahonda beach bar: Nerja town hall has awarded a contract to open a chiringuito (beach bar) on the town’s Calahonda beach, which is situated below the iconic Balcón de Europa. The company Cielo de Montera S.L. will be in charge of the construction and management of the new establishment. In the summer of 2014 the Papagayo chiringuito on the same beach was closed by municipal order after years of complaints by local residents about noise. Major security breach exposes usernames and passwords of Norton Password Manager customers: {I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…Do Not Use Password Manager Apps! They get hacked regularly. Then the hackers get all your passwords in one go, much worse than having a single password exposed! -Ed.} The company behind NortonLifeLock, Gen Digital, has issued a warning to customers about a security breach that took place in December. Hackers used a credential-stuff attack to gain access to hundreds of thousands of Norton Password Manager accounts.
– Gen Digital says that its own systems were not compromised, but warns affected customers that “we strongly believe that an unauthorized third party knows and has utilized your username and password for your account”.
– The company warns customers: In accessing your account with your username and password, the unauthorized third party may have viewed your first name, last name, phone number, and mailing address. There is also a strong likelihood that sensitive data protected by details stored in the password manager may have been accessed.
– If you use this service, Norton Password Manager or NortonLifeLock, you need to change all the passwords that were saved in it.
