Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a freind/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

MALAGA

Two Benalmádena beaches to close to public from next week:
– The town council announced yesterday (Monday, 13 March) that the Torrebermeja and Las Gaviotas beaches will remain closed to the public from next Monday the 20th and until further notice. The reason? The extension work of the Malapesquera breakwater, which had already been announced a few days before.
– The authorities estimate that the works could end on 1 July, however, the end date of the project is not known. Understanding the negative impact both for residents, tourists and businesses in the area, the council has explained that the beach bars in the area will be able to maintain their normal activity, as well as those on the promenade, reiterating that the access ban refers only to the beach as such. During the first week of this rule, three other people also requested it, two of them being adults, according to what judicial sources have informed this newspaper. UK

Spain’s government approves the agreement with the UK on the recognition and exchange of driving licences from 16 March: {Translation in full}
– On Tuesday, the government approved the agreement with the United Kingdom for the reciprocal recognition and exchange of driving licences and the exchange of information on traffic offences in the field of road safety now that the country is no longer part of the EU.
– As explained by Moncloa, the agreement puts an end to the successive extensions for the exchange of licences that have been in place since the end of the transitional period provided for in the UK’s withdrawal agreement from the European Union.
– From now on, holders of a valid and current driving licence issued by either country will be able to apply for the exchange of their equivalent driving licence where they have taken up residence, without being subject to any additional practical or theoretical test requirements and in accordance with the equivalence tables between the licence categories of both countries.
– In this regard, it is foreseen that all valid licences or licences of current residents issued prior to its entry into force can be exchanged, while for licences issued after its entry into force, it will be a prerequisite that the licences were issued in the country where the applicant had his legal residence.
– Thanks to this agreement, British residents in Spain who had not had their driving licence recognised before Brexit, nor in the successive extensions granted, will be able to do so from Thursday 16 March.
– According to the Government, in order to facilitate the administrative process at the provincial traffic police stations, a period of six months has been granted during which British citizens can drive around Spain with their original licence while they process the exchange.
– In addition, Spain and the UK undertake to provide each other with information on the details of vehicles and their owners for the purposes of investigating traffic offences related to road safety, especially in cases of speeding, not wearing a seat belt, failing to stop at a red light, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, not wearing a crash helmet, driving in a forbidden lane or illegal use of mobile phones. TECH

Meta (Fakebook’s owner) to cut 10,000 more jobs in second round of layoffs:
– Facebook-parent Meta Platforms said on Tuesday it would cut 10,000 jobs this year, making it the first Big Tech company to announce a second round of mass layoffs as the industry braces for a deep economic downturn.
– Meta shares jumped nearly 7% on the news. The widely-anticipated job cuts are part of a restructuring that will see the company scrap hiring plans for 5,000 openings, kill off lower-priority projects and “flatten” layers of middle management.
– They followed the company’s first mass layoff in the fall, which eliminated more than 11,000 jobs, or 13% of its workforce at the time, after an extensive hiring spree that doubled the employee count it had as of 2020. The ongoing cuts indicate “how desperate the company is to get costs under control as its revenues have fallen amid declining marketing budgets,” said Hargreaves Lansdown analyst Susannah Streeter. ARTIFICIAL INTELLEGENCE (AI)

Google unveils ‘magic wand’ to draft documents as AI race tightens:
– Alphabet Inc’s Google on Tuesday unveiled a flurry of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for its email, collaboration and cloud software, taking aim at Microsoft Corp days before its rival is expected to make a similar announcement. In a replay of last month’s dueling chatbot launches by the tech giants, Alphabet touted a “magic wand” for its popular Google Docs software that can draft a marketing blog, training plan or other text, then revise its tone at users’ discretion, a company official demonstrated to reporters.
– Alphabet also said its AI will be able to summarize message threads in Gmail, craft slide presentations, personalize customer outreach and take meeting notes as part of its upgrade to Google Workspace, a product suite with billions of users on free and paid accounts. “This next phase is where we’re bringing human beings to be supported with an AI collaborator, who is working in real time,” Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive of Google Cloud, said in a press briefing.
