CANCELLED due to poor ticket sales– Oh, See! festival and Solaris Nerja concert cycle: See details in the News Section for Nerja topics.
{Editor’s Note: I have been sceptical of all these new festivals popping up, with no big name headliner acts. Famous acts sell the tickets. Local promoters of many new music festivals have been loading the lineups with little known acts to minimize expenses; the posters look like they are full of bands, but none of them sell tickets. The remaining successful festivals have not made this mistake, they hire well known bands to headline, that do sell tickets.}

SPAIN

Nearly one million immigrants have submitted applications to take advantage of the government’s regularization process, more than double the gov’t forecast (They knew better but lied to the public to avoid the inevitable negative response, more tyranny from an administration willing to say anything to achieve their agendas!): {Trans, summary}
– The government has received nearly one million applications from immigrants to participate in the extraordinary regularization process launched in April, double the initial estimate and more applications than in any other regularization process previously held in Spain. Furthermore, collaborating NGOs assert that this figure will experience “another surge” in the two weeks remaining, until June 30, to complete the process.
– So far, according to the government, of the million applications submitted so far, only 360,000 applications have been accepted for processing. Although a temporary residence and work permit was initially promised within fifteen days of submitting the documents, the reality is that the processing of each application can take up to three months, and some applicants do not understand the delays or how the process is being carried out, given that those who applied first are taking longer to receive the permit than those who applied later. New national strike by doctors against the Government’s “burdensome” Framework Statute: {Trans, summary}
– Doctors in Madrid, through the Amyts union, have called a national strike from 15th to 19th June against a Government preliminary draft law. The principal driver of action is a severe lack of doctors, caused fundamentally by low wages. Poor pay discourages medical graduates from entering public service and pushes experienced physicians to leave.
– The union warns that on-call shifts are imposed without equal financial recognition, worsening staff retention. Chronic understaffing forces remaining doctors into excessive workloads, which degrades care quality and endangers practitioner health. Without urgent wage improvements, recruitment will fail, and the health system will face deeper shortages. The union demands equal remuneration for every hour worked, a specific medical statute, and strict limits on patient loads to reverse the exodus of physicians.
– Among the most urgent issues raised by the association are the regulation of hours of continuous care and on-call shifts, correct professional classification, and retirement conditions. Likewise, they emphasise the need to improve financial remuneration, establish specific negotiation for the medical collective, adapt specialised health training, and, above all, set strict limits on the care overload that practitioners suffer daily. ANDALUCÍA

The comptroller general of Andalusia resigns due to his links with the corruption scandal involving socialist Leire Díez & SEPI: {Trans, summary}
– The comptroller general of the Andalusian Regional Government, Miguel Ángel Figueroa Teva {pic}, has resigned from his post. Figueroa is explicitly mentioned in one of the notebooks seized by the Civil Guard, where the former Socialist Party member Leire Díez wrote in her own hand: “He will be our eyes at SEPI,” along with the initials MAF.
Note: The SEPI (Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales) is Spain’s state-controlled industrial holding company, created in 1995 to manage government stakes in businesses. The current scandal revolves around pandemic-era bailouts from the FASE fund, created in 2020 to rescue “strategic” companies. Of the €2.6 billion distributed, roughly 25%: €641 million across Air Europa (€475m), Plus Ultra (€53m), and Tubos Reunidos (€113m), is now under judicial investigation.
– The documentation published by this newspaper places Figueroa as one of Díez’s main sources of information on the internal workings of SEPI and, in particular, on the management of the Fund for Support to the Solvency of Strategic Companies (FASEE), created to rescue companies affected by the pandemic. AXARQUÍA

The Axarquía region is left without doctors– the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) fails to fill any of the 11 positions offered in the Support Unit: {Trans}
– The primary care crisis continues to worsen in the Axarquía region. The results of the latest allocation process for residency positions offered by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) to graduating medical residents reflect yet another failure to recruit professionals for the Andalusian public healthcare system, particularly for areas with the greatest staffing shortages.
– In the Axarquía region, the situation is particularly worrying. The Andalusian Health Service (SAS) offered a total of 11 positions in the Axarquía Support Unit (DA), a crucial tool for reinforcing care in health centres and clinics during absences, vacations, or other extraordinary needs. However, none of these positions were accepted by the newly qualified specialists .
– The data puts the coverage at 0%, making the Axarquía one of the territories most affected by the lack of interest of new doctors in joining Andalusian Primary Care.
– The situation is not unique to this region. Across the entire province of Málaga, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) offered 203 Family and Community Medicine positions, of which only 43 were accepted, meaning that almost 80% remained vacant.
– The worst results are concentrated precisely in areas that have been struggling for years to guarantee healthcare coverage. Along with the Axarquía region, the Costa del Sol stands out, where only six of the 105 available places were filled, as well as the Serranía de Ronda, where only two of the seven available places were accepted.
~A recurring problem year after year~
– Medical unions warn that these figures once again demonstrate the inadequacy of the measures implemented by the Andalusian Regional Government to attract doctors. Although the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) offers stable, long-term contracts, a growing number of specialists are choosing other locations or pursuing their careers outside of Andalusia. Among the causes most frequently cited by professionals are the excessive workload, overcrowded schedules, lack of replacements, difficulties in balancing work and family life, and the scarcity of competitive wages and professional incentives.
– In regions like Axarquía, where the population increases considerably for much of the year due to tourism and the presence of foreign residents, the lack of doctors can translate into longer waiting times and increasing pressure on the professionals who remain active.
~Risk to Healthcare~
– Medical organizations warn that the backlog of vacancies directly threatens the responsiveness of Primary Care, considered the gateway to the public healthcare system. In their view, the problem no longer lies in the lack of available positions, but in the system’s inability to make them attractive. They warn that unless working and professional conditions are improved, it will continue to be increasingly difficult to find doctors willing to work in health centres in the Axarquía region and the rest of Andalusia. MALAGA PROVINCE

Two amphibious aircraft deployed to fight Casabermeja fire: {Trans, summary}
– The Andalusian Forest Fire Extinguishing Service (Plan Infoca) has added two light amphibious aircraft to the fire that broke out early Monday afternoon in the municipality of Casabermeja (Malaga), specifically in the Venta El Corte area.
– Three helicopters have been deployed to the site: one light, one medium-heavy, and one heavy; as well as two cargo planes on land, one coordination plane, and later, two light amphibious aircraft. Also working on the ground are three groups of forest firefighters, two Brica (elite, helicopter-transported wildfire fighting units), two operations technicians, one environmental agent and three fire engines.
– On the other hand, the Infoca Plan has also indicated that the fire that broke out this past Sunday in Alpandeire (Malaga) was extinguished at 12:10 pm this Monday. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/declarado-incendio-paraje-casabermeja_0_2007048744.html

NERJA

Solaris Nerja 2026 & the Oh, See! Festivals Suspended- the new El Playazo events will not be held: {Trans, summary}
– The cancellation of the Oh, See! festival and Solaris Nerja concert cycle in Nerja highlights severe instability in Spain’s live music sector. Both June events were called off after ticket sales failed to cover costs. This reflects a wider trend of festival cancellations due to market saturation. In Nerja, the 1,000 tickets Solaris sold proved insufficient. Organisers cited inability to guarantee quality, safety and experience standards. Similar collapses have occurred elsewhere, such as Fortaleza Sound in Lorca. While major, well financed festivals survive, smaller events struggle as public demand cannot sustain all the new music festivals that lack famous, ticket-selling attractions. Nerja and Maro are now definitively connected by a bike path: {Trans, summary}
– The final section of the cycle path between Nerja and Maro has been opened to traffic following the completion of construction and the signing of the acceptance certificate. Nerja and Maro are now linked by a continuous bike path of almost 3.5 kilometres, offering residents and visitors a safe, accessible and environmentally friendly mobility alternative. TORROX

Rescue dogs return to Torrox for the second year in a row: {Trans, summary}
– The beaches of Torrox will feature rescue dogs for the second year running. While the presence of canines in rescue operations is being promoted in various locations along the Spanish coast, this municipality in Malaga is the only one in the entire country where rescue dogs are officially certified and integrated into the specifications of the municipal beach service.
– The driving force behind this project is Miguel Sánchez Merenciano, director and instructor of the Torrox canine unit. With 28 years of experience as a dog trainer and a decade as an instructor in water rescue, Sánchez is spending his second summer deployed on the beaches of Torrox. Under his tutelage are three spectacular chocolate Labrador Retrievers: Brown (the alpha male of the group), Nancy (the experienced female), and young Milka , the daughter of the aforementioned dogs, who at just a year and a half old has already fully integrated into the rescue services.
– “They have two layers of fur that provide thermal insulation and webbed feet; they swim like ducks, completely horizontally. They also have a very muscular tail that they use as a rudder, allowing them to change direction with the same precision as steering a boat,” explains Miguel. The strength they generate is such that one of the unit’s most remarkable features is the male, Brown, who is capable of towing jet skis or boats weighing up to 2,000 kilos. UK

Sir Keir Starmer has announced a social media ban for under the age of 16 as he vowed to protect children online:
– The unprecedented block, if confirmed later this week, which is questionable, is set to restrict the internet usage of more than 12 million under-16s across the UK. He has proposed the landmark policy will be enforced by “highly effective age assurance systems”, through age-recognition facial scans and digital IDs. Video Link

MIDDLE EAST

Disputed Terms May Derail US / Iran Peace Deal: {DigameXtra Editorial}
– Trump is claiming a peace deal has been reached, which he now calls a “memorandum of understanding” and was signed Monday. However, Iran has subsequently said it will not accept some of the terms and is claiming concessions the US has not confirmed. Additionally, Iranian officials are claiming they have made a deal with Oman to control and charge tolls in the Gulf of Formuz. And Israel says it will not withdraw from Lebanon, which the Iranians require as part of the final peace deal. It is unclear if the US will release, at this point, any of Iran’s finances that it has frozen.
– In fact, the announced deal is very limited and not an end to the conflict. The U.S. and Iran will now enter into a 60-day negotiation period, during which time the two parties will hammer out a comprehensive agreement concerning, among other things, the future of Tehran’s nuclear program, Iran’s support for terrorist regimes and further sanctions relief.
– So as I see it, nothing concrete has been determined despite many press announcements that a peace deal has been completed. We’ll see in the next few days if ships are able to pass the Straight, a good sign if it happens.

BREAKING NEWS FROM REUTERS– US and Iran have signed a ‘memorandum of understanding’, US official says, key points:
– The US and Iran say they have reached an agreement to end their war, although the precise terms are not immediately clear.
– A US official says the memorandum of understanding was signed by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qaliba.
– The official says the deal provides for an immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and lifting of the U.S. blockade on Iran.
– Iran says its nuclear program will be the subject of later talks.
– The pact may hinge on events in Lebanon, which has been a sticking point in negotiations. Israel says it will not withdraw from Lebanese territory it has seized and will retaliate if Iran attacks it due to events in Lebanon
– Hezbollah welcomes the US-Iran deal, while Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says there must be a complete halt to Israeli attacks against Lebanon. Full article with live updates: https://www.reuters.com/world/iran-war-live-trump-says-us-tehran-have-reached-peace-deal-2026-06-15/
