Gasoline prices rise by 15% after their fourth consecutive increase on the eve of the August holiday exodus, the most expensive since 2023: {Trans, summary}

Inflation reaches its highest level in more than two years– it climbs to 3.5% in July after the end of tax breaks on gasoline and the rise in electricity prices: {Trans, summary}
– Spain’s annual inflation rate rose from 3.2% to 3.5% in July, reaching its highest level in more than two years. The increase was driven mainly by higher fuel and electricity prices after reduced VAT and other tax relief introduced earlier this year expired. – The Government says its economic response plan has reduced inflation by around one percentage point in recent months, claiming it has offset more than 60% of the inflationary impact linked to the conflict involving Iran. MALAGA PROVINCE

The ‘Submerged Wines’ Project: {Trans, summary}
– Malaga Bay is being used as a natural laboratory to investigate whether storing wine underwater genuinely changes its characteristics. The ‘Submerged Wines’ project, led by the University of Malaga with support from organisations including the Costa del Sol Axarquía association and local wine bodies, aims to replace marketing claims with scientific evidence.
– Researchers submerged 160 bottles of white, red and sweet wines from seven Malaga area wineries at a depth of ten metres for five months. Identical bottles were stored in a conventional cellar to allow direct comparison under controlled conditions. Environmental factors such as temperature and depth were recorded throughout the experiment.
– A controlled blind tasting involving specialists is scheduled for October to determine whether underwater storage produces measurable differences. The Virgin of the Snows will once again parade through the streets of Torrox on the main day of the patron saint festivities: {Trans, summary}
– Torrox is counting down the hours until August 5th, its main festival day in honour of its patron saints, la Virgen de las Nieves, and San Roque (Our Lady of the Snows, and Saint Roch- patron saint against plague and infectious diseases). The day will once again bring together hundreds of residents and devotees for a religious program culminating in the traditional procession through the town’s streets, an event that this year will include several new features to enhance the route of the religious images.
– Among the main new features is the installation of a large, temporary dome, seven meters high, in the Plaza de la Constitución. This structure will enhance the procession of the Virgin of the Snows and Saint Roch through one of the town’s most emblematic locations. In addition, the Brotherhood’s Perseverance Group will create special decorations along the processional route. Furthermore, the new ambo, lectern, and Paschal candle holder donated to the parish will be blessed during the day.
– The events will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a solemn religious service in honour of the patron saints, presided over by parish priest José Manuel González, and featuring musical accompaniment by the Santa María de la Victoria Choir of Málaga. Afterwards, around 12:15 p.m., the cloistered procession with the Blessed Sacrament and the veneration of the religious images will take place.
– Later in the evening, at 8:30 p.m., another Mass will be celebrated, after which the eagerly awaited procession of Our Lady of the Snows and Saint Roch will begin through the streets of Torrox’s historic center. They steal more than 13,000 meters of copper cable in the northern area of Granada in less than a month: {Trans, summary}

Ceuta on the verge of collapse! 1,500 migrant arrivals in nine days, a broken-down ship, and fears of a “humanitarian tragedy”: {Trans, summary}

Consumer group warns of a batch of salami with salmonella from the Díaz brand: {Trans, summary}
– The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has issued an alert after detecting that a batch of Díaz brand salami contaminated with salmonella bacteria was put on sale in Andalusia and Castile and León.
– Specifically, it is Iberian-style salami, batch 260513, packaged in plastic in 250-gram units, with a best-before date of May 13, 2027.
– Although the initial distribution has taken place in Andalusia and Castile and León, it is possible that it could reach other regions. Therefore, the information has been shared with the regional governments so that they can verify the product’s removal from the market.

– X (Twitter) is now blocking the audio from videos visited via X links if the user is not logged into an X account. So sharing X video links with friends who do not have an X account is now pointless. They can still read posts, see images and watch the videos without sound, from links you provide them.
– As if they didn’t already have enough fake content from ad-bots and spoofed accounts, Fakebook is now flooded with AI generated posts and summaries. Fortunately, they are usually labelled as AI created content {pic}. These posts cannot be trusted to be accurate, AI makes mistakes and often hallucinates. Verify any info with other sources.

Renfe train strike in Malaga- minimum services for Friday, July 31: {Trans, summary}
– Another rail strike. It will be marked by a nationwide Renfe strike. This Friday, July 31st, the Railway Union has called for a work stoppage by train operators and drivers. This situation will affect trains departing from and arriving at Málaga’s María Zambrano station .
– In response to this call, the Ministry of Transport has established minimum services for this date, both for commuter trains, as well as for medium-distance, AVE and long-distance trains. The Government has established, at a national level, that the minimum services for Medium Distance trains will be 65%; it has been established that 73% of high-speed and long-distance trains will run.
– The minimum services of the Málaga commuter rail, for its two lines, C1 and C2, will be 75% during peak hours (between 6:00 and 9:00, 13:30 and 16:00 and 18:00 and 20:30) and the rest of the time will be 50%. Borderline Fake News- “The Andalusian government achieves social peace with doctors in exchange for improved working conditions”: {Trans, summary, explainer}
– The Junta de Andalucía has signed an agreement with the Sindicato Médico Andaluz (SMA) aimed at improving the working conditions of doctors in the regional public health service. Measures include reducing the number of patients assigned to family doctors, limiting consecutive on-call hours, introducing paid time for training and research, improving career progression, and creating working groups to develop further reforms. In return, the SMA has suspended its planned industrial action, which the Junta presents as restoring stability after months of disputes.
– {Explainer: The agreement is being portrayed by the Andalusian government as bringing an end to conflict with doctors, but the headline overstates what has actually been achieved. The deal is not an agreement with all doctors, nor with the entire healthcare workforce. It is not an agreement with nurses or other health workers. It is a bilateral agreement between the Junta and the SMA, the main doctors’ union in Andalucía. Other major health unions, including CCOO, UGT, SATSE and CSIF, were not parties to the negotiations. The Andalusian Regional Government confirms three more cases of West Nile virus in the province of Seville, bringing the total to nine persons infected, with 16 municipalities on alert: {Trans, summary}
– Andalusia has confirmed three new human cases of West Nile fever, bringing this season’s total to nine, all in Seville province. The latest cases include two men, aged 40 and 48, with mild symptoms in Villamanrique de la Condesa and Palomares del Río, plus a 71-year-old man from Seville’s Tablada district who remains in hospital with neurological complications, a rare but serious form of the disease.
– In response, the regional government has extended the alert status for Villamanrique de la Condesa and Palomares del Río until 20 and 21 August, while Seville city has been added as a new alert area after investigators identified Tablada as the likely place of infection.
– The measures require enhanced mosquito surveillance, increased public health information and stronger mosquito control by local councils. There are now 16 municipalities across Andalusia designated as West Nile virus alert areas.
