SPAIN

Socialists Resort To Victim Blaming Again– They expect a Ceuta crisis resolution in “a few months”!: {Trans, summary}
– The Minister of Territorial Policy and sole commander for the management of the Ceuta crisis, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE) {pic}, has warned that if the violence in the autonomous city “continues or increases” there will be a “total breakdown” and the solution to the crisis will be delayed, according to an interview published by ‘elDiario.es’.
– “We want coexistence to return. In 2021, normality was achieved in Ceuta, and it will be achieved again now, but it won’t be possible if we continue to fuel the violence,” Torres stated, adding that the government wants to “shorten the timeframe as much as possible .” {…after more than a month of inaction! -Ed.}
– The minister explained that if the new spaces to house the migrants currently living on the streets become available “within a couple of weeks,” the situation could be resolved “within a few months.” He specified that 2,000 people have already been registered and more than 100 have been returned.
– Torres also estimated that around 5,000 people are currently living on the streets of Ceuta, according to data from this week’s food deliveries, although he noted that it is not possible to know exactly how many people remain because they are scattered throughout different parts of the city.
– The minister argued that it is necessary to transfer these people as soon as possible to designated facilities so that health checks can be carried out, immigration paperwork processed, and their age determined. “The sooner the migrants are in enclosed spaces, the sooner they can be returned,” he stated. He also asserted that it is not possible to return all those who entered Ceuta “in 24 hours or a week” and dismissed as “lies” and “false” any promise of immediate expulsions. In this regard, he explained that most migrants will be returned because they do not have the right to remain, but that some minors will not be able to be reunited with their families and will have to be taken in after the corresponding procedures are completed.
– Regarding the violent incidents of recent days by residents defending their neighbourhoods, the minister indicated that an investigation is underway to determine if “organized groups” have come to Ceuta to “stir up conflict.” Specifically, he condemned the attacks on food distribution and highlighted the work of Ceuta volunteers who have collaborated with humanitarian organizations. Sánchez openly declares censorship of the Civil Guard and National Police adding it to his new Ceuta decree– if they release any information they will be sanctioned: {Trans, summary}
– The much-vaunted royal decree by Pedro Sánchez concerning Morocco’s invasion of Ceuta has not only arrived a month late, but has arrived without the powers and resources that the State Security Forces and Armed Forces genuinely need to put an end to the invasion of Ceuta. It does, however, contain a section set aside for censorship, official censorship, the kind the Government can control.
– One article provides for stripping the Police and Civil Guard’s own departments of their communications capacity, consolidating it under Moncloa. Reliable official data are a thing of the past. The only communications the Government will not be able to control completely will be those issued by police associations or Civil Guard associations.
– This is a decree that does not introduce any state of emergency to give military personnel the status of law enforcement officers, or to enable them to take part in police operations to expel immigrants. Nor does it approve any significant allocation of either police resources or funding to alleviate the disaster caused by the invasion.
– It does, however, set about stripping certain bodies of their powers, so that control over information and operations will be more directly exercised from Moncloa. And it does not appear to be intended to facilitate the expulsion of immigrants, but rather to begin transferring them, at least partially, to mainland Spain.
– The fact is that Royal Decree 681/2026 of 25 August, declaring the situation in the city of Ceuta to be a matter of national security, does not reflect the seriousness of the events and does not even acknowledge them. “The irregular entry of migrants into the city of Ceuta on 30 and 31 July has placed unprecedented pressure on the border control, identification, humanitarian assistance and reception capacities of the various public administrations, and has affected the normal operation of public services, including social services, child protection, security, transport and administrative management”, the text states.
– It says nothing about an invasion, Morocco, the collapse of healthcare services, the sharp rise in insecurity on the streets, complaints of rape, or anything resembling the real situation being experienced by Ceuta.
– “Since the beginning of the crisis, the Government of Spain has mobilised all the resources necessary to reinforce the border, promote the return of migrants who entered irregularly and support the people of Ceuta. These measures have made it possible to reduce the initial pressure drastically and maintain public order in the city”, it states, in an exercise in utter cynicism. LaRazon: Lunatics running the asylum– A Ceuta conspiracy bordering on delirium: {Translation in full of LaRazon editorial}
– One can understand the state of distress in which the Government finds itself following its incomprehensible handling of the Ceuta crisis, even if only because of its well-founded fear of paying a heavy electoral price. We might even accept that, in the international policy of our Government, maintaining the best possible relations with Morocco is considered more important than demanding from our neighbour conduct consistent with the loyalty owed to each other by two supposed allied and friendly governments, which are also signatories to a series of treaties and agreements under which Rabat guarantees respect for Spain’s sovereignty and borders, including those of Ceuta and Melilla.
– But the delirious attitude of Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, accusing a “practically worldwide conspiracy” of causing the influx of irregular migrants that took place on 30 July is wholly incomprehensible {Exact Albares quote: “Lo que ocurrió el 30 de julio fue una crisis migratoria y humanitaria, pero fue gestada y propulsada por una viralización inédita de mentiras y bulos, y fue instrumentalizada por la internacional reaccionaria”. -Ed.}. The statement was made on Friday, 28 August 2026, by Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares during his appearance before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress. It is a pathetic attempt to continue defending the Alawite regime, which the various ministers have praised for its ‘co-operation’. This has been the strategy chosen by the Government, contrary to the logic of the facts and to the widespread view of the Spanish people.
– Speaking in Congress of a phantasmagorical ‘reactionary international’ which would, naturally, be assisted by the usual suspect, Elon Musk, demonstrates not only the Government’s bewilderment, but also takes us into scenarios bordering on the grotesque. We have a Government that has always had difficulties with the truth, but what is happening in the present case is so far removed from the actual facts that it gives rise to the most extravagant suspicions about the reasons for our subordination to Rabat, an issue that is seriously undermining Spaniards’ confidence in the good faith of the occupant of La Moncloa.
– An official explanation of what happened is needed, rather than the succession of justifications, excuses and stammering that has characterised the Government’s handling of the Ceuta crisis, at least until the Prime Minister agreed to end his long holiday at La Mareta and opted for a {mis}communications strategy. The fact that this strategy has consisted of blaming the right and defending Morocco does not prevent public opinion from knowing what to expect.
– In other words, any decision taken with regard to irregular migrants, including thousands of unaccompanied minors, who are occupying the city of Ceuta and have seriously disrupted the daily lives of its residents will depend on the will of a government such as Morocco’s, which has always placed the greatest obstacles in the way of accepting the return and expulsion of those who have crossed the border illegally. Its rejection is particularly strong when those involved are its own minors, Moroccan children and adolescents who invariably end up under the guardianship and protection of the Spanish state.
– It is this reality, namely that Morocco uses migration as a weapon of political and economic pressure against Europe, that Sánchezism no longer knows how to conceal. Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/opinion/conspiracion-que-roza-delirio_202608306a935d7fae2f3735da1cb370.html

MALAGA PROVINCE

El Borge resumes normal water consumption after the incident detected on August 21 in the municipal network was resolved: {Trans, summary}
– The municipal water supply in El Borge is once again safe for human consumption and food preparation after the City Council declared the issue with chlorate levels resolved. The restriction was implemented on August 21st, following the detection of an anomaly in a sample taken from the Upper Reservoir and in accordance with the recommendations of health authorities.
– The City Council has reported that corrective work and health monitoring have allowed the situation to return to normal, with three consecutive tests yielding satisfactory results. During the period when the water was unfit for consumption, the City Council arranged an alternative distribution of six eight-litre bottles per household, using vouchers redeemable at local businesses. TORROX

About twenty occupied properties and illegal settlements in Torrox are evicted: {Trans, summary}
– The Torrox Local Police with support from the Civil Guard in certain operations intervened during the summer months in nearly twenty illegally occupied properties and makeshift settlements located throughout the municipality, proceeding to evict them due to the hazardous conditions presented by some of them, especially the possibility of fires or floods. In several cases, the settlements were located in particularly vulnerable environments, such as riverbeds or areas with accumulated belongings and materials, which increased the danger to the people sleeping there and to the surrounding area, as reported this Saturday in a press release by the Torrox Town Hall.
– The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina , has emphasized that the City Council continues “to act to protect both vulnerable individuals and private property, guaranteeing safety and peaceful coexistence in our public spaces.” In this regard, he stated that “we cannot normalize someone sleeping in a riverbed or illegally occupying a building, whether public or private, surrounded by materials that could cause a fire, or in any other space that does not meet minimum safety and habitability standards.” Medina reiterated that “we have already requested a solution from the central government for these situations and we will continue working with all levels of government to ensure a coordinated and appropriate response.”
– Among the actions taken was the second eviction of the settlement located under the Güi River bridge in El Morche, due to its location and the associated risk of flooding, as well as the unsanitary and unsafe conditions. The City Council subsequently carried out cleaning and removal of belongings and accumulated waste in these areas, through the company FCC Caviclum. Other areas where evictions have taken place include Punta del Faro, Carlos Cano Street, Baja Street, the sports court area in Ferrara, and the Almería road near the Urban Beach Hotel, among others.

RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

It looks like an urban oasis, but it’s on the Costa del Sol: the new park with 30,000 square meters, hundreds of trees and even a skate park: {Trans, summary}
– The first phase of the Mediterranean Park in Rincón de la Victoria is now open to the public. However, what will be the largest park in the Axarquía region still has steps to be taken to complete the works on an area that totals 30,000 square meters.
– The park is intended for “leisure, sports, and nature,” as described by the local council in a statement. It will feature 1,277 square meters of shaded area under awnings and pergolas, more than 10,000 trees, shrubs, and flowering plants, and large areas of meadow and grass for playing or simply enjoying the fresh air.
– This ‘urban oasis’ features a children’s play area with facilities designed for fun; in fact, a 10-meter-high tower suitable for older children will be installed. For adults, petanque courts and bio-healthy equipment have been added; a kiosk, a picnic area and even a skate and bicycle circuit designed by Rubén Alcántara, BMX world champion. Whoever it’s for, the Mediterranean Park is designed for strolling along the pedestrian paths that lead to a circular plaza, and also for enjoying the coolness emanating from the large lake.
– For cycling enthusiasts, the new outdoor bike lane runs along Lebeche Street, connecting to the second phase of the project. This area will also feature a sports area, a viewpoint, benches, two ornamental fountains, and six drinking fountain , two of which will be adapted for dogs.
– The park, located in the Los Cabreras neighbourhood just half an hour from Malaga, will have opening hours that vary depending on the time of year: from 7:00 to 00:00 in summer and from 8:00 to 23:00 in winter. ALMUÑÉCAR

Nudists demand the free practice of naturism in Almuñécar and specific signage: {Trans, summary}
– Current situation at Cantarriján is marked by a dispute over its established naturist use, visitor expectations and the role of the authorities. The Friends of Cantarriján Nudist Beach Association says the beach has been naturist for five decades, but that increasing numbers of clothed visitors are causing tension and pushing naturists towards the rocks and a second cove.
– The association is seeking prominent information signage at the parking area and says it will renew its request to the Junta de Andalucía. The Junta previously rejected a signage request on the grounds that it would constitute advertising. The regional administration says it has received no recent application through official channels and stresses that it is not responsible for formally designating the beach as nudist. It manages the protected coastal site, public access and seasonal access controls. Meanwhile, Almuñécar’s official tourist information already calls it “Cantarriján Nudist Beach”.
– The association’s president has also criticised measures by two beach bars as “anti-nudist”, while the association says it supports conservation.
– The dispute follows the association’s recent Nudist Meeting Day, attended by around 100 people who formed a human chain along the shoreline. Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/andalucia/granada/nudistas-reivindican…

– The Arenas Town Hall has issued an important notice to residents informing them of the complete closure of Carril de la Cacería to traffic starting early Tuesday morning, September 1st. This measure is due to the commencement of concrete work on the section running from Cruz Chiquita to Alto de Lugar, at the entrance to the town centre.
– To facilitate the execution of the improvement works and the movement of large trucks and heavy machinery, the council has requested the full cooperation of residents. Please do not park vehicles on the roads indicated on the municipal map to keep access clear. Furthermore, for safety reasons and to ensure proper curing of the pavement , the passage of vehicles, pedestrians, and animals will be strictly prohibited until the complete finishing of the works. ALHAURÍN EL GRANDE

A fire guts a warehouse in Alhaurín el Grande and affects three homes: {Trans, summary}
– A Sunday-morning fire destroyed an industrial unit in Alhaurín el Grande, damaging three nearby homes. The 112 service received alerts at 3:10 am and mobilised fire, police, guard and medical crews. No injuries occurred, but extra fire units were called owing to the blaze’s severity, and swimming-pool water was used. After three and a half hours, the fire was controlled and extinguished. The unit and its contents, vehicles, appliances, scrap, were lost. Three families were evacuated as a precaution. The mayor praised responders and offered sympathy to affected families.
– A separate vehicle fire in the same town was quickly dealt with within half an hour.
– Separately, Infoca declared extinct a Saturday fire in Cártama, reclassified as an agricultural fire rather than forest fire; 25 firefighters and other staff secured control by 20:00 Saturday.

UKRAINE WAR

Death toll rises to 38 from Russia’s deadliest attack on Ukraine this year:
– The death toll from a Russian strike on a warehouse west of Kyiv, the war’s deadliest attack so far this year, rose to 38 with four people still missing, President Zelenskyy said on social media Sunday. The strike on Friday night on the warehouse, an ammunition storage facility according to Ukrainian officials, sparked massive explosions and fires that swept through dozens of nearby homes and buildings.
– Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday it is preparing to launch “massive strikes” against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, following a Ukrainian drone campaign against a retailer dubbed “Russia’s Amazon” as well as the country’s oil and gas sector, which Kyiv says both funds and directly fuels Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

– The telescope is set to transform our understanding of the cosmos, from the furthest reaches and most mysterious forces, to the planets and stars that make up our own galaxy and even objects in our solar system. It will conduct these science observations from a perch at the second sun-Earth Lagrange point, or L2, some million miles behind our planet, where the sun and Earth’s gravitational pulls balance one another out. The effect essentially gives Roman a parking spot in space, enabling engineers on Earth to remain in constant contact with the telescope, while making sure Earth never blocks its view of the cosmos.
– Among the secrets Roman will probe is the nature of dark energy and dark matter. Astronomers believe dark energy fuels the universe’s expansion, but its fundamental nature, is it constant, or is it changing, is a mystery. Dark matter, meanwhile, is thought to be the glue that holds galaxies and other massive structures in the universe together, but again, its nature is an enigma and its existence remains unproven.
– We will need to wait some time before we get the first observations from Roman, however. After the telescope reaches L2, it will need go through a series of commissioning operations to fully come online. NASA expects its first images will be released in early 2027.

TECH

A data center powered by human neurons has been inaugurated: {Trans, summary}
– A data center typically has two enemies. The first is the electricity it needs to operate. The second is an inevitable consequence of that electricity: heat. The processors that train large artificial intelligence models consume enormous amounts of energy , and much of it ends up as heat, which must be dissipated by cooling systems that also consume electricity and, in many cases, large quantities of water. The largest data centers can consume as much electricity as a city of 30,000 inhabitants , and according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) , up to 40% of this consumption is used to cool the facilities. With this in mind, an alternative that generates less consumption is not only desirable, but also necessary.
– In Singapore, an experiment has just been launched proposing a radical alternative : using live human cells to process information. The prototype, developed by the National University of Singapore and Cortical Labs (known for fusing neurons with technology ), houses 20 CL1 biological computing units in a single rack. It is not a simulation of neurons nor a conventional brain-inspired computer. These are real human neurons, grown in the laboratory from stem cells , connected to an array of electrodes on a silicon chip.
– Each unit allows electrical stimuli to be sent to neurons and their response to be recorded. In this way, the computer can present information to the biological neural network and convert the electrical activity of the cells into data that the system can interpret. The result is a hybrid machine in which silicon provides the interface and electronics, while living cells perform some of the processing.
– Herein lies one of the fundamental differences with a conventional data center. A GPU requires a lot of energy to perform its calculations and, in doing so, generates heat. Neurons, on the other hand, are extraordinarily energy efficient. According to Cortical Labs, each CL1 consumes around 30 watts, even taking into account the systems needed to keep the cells alive.
– To give you an idea of the difference, a high-performance GPU used for artificial intelligence can consume hundreds of watts on its own. A server equipped with several of them can reach several kilowatts. The result is that a considerable portion of a data center’s infrastructure is dedicated not to computing, but to providing electricity, cooling the equipment, and keeping it within safe thermal limits.
– Does that mean these data centers don’t need cooling? To a large extent, yes, but with an important caveat. Neurons don’t need to be cooled to remove the heat generated during processing because their energy consumption is minuscule and they don’t produce the enormous thermal load characteristic of AI processors. The head of Cortical Labs himself has pointed out that biological systems don’t need cooling like conventional servers.
– But cells do need very precise environmental conditions to survive. The CL1 incorporates a true life support system: it controls the temperature, mixes the necessary gases, and maintains the appropriate conditions in the environment where the neurons live. At the Singapore facility, the cells also periodically receive a mixture of nutrients, sugars, and other components necessary to keep them active. While a conventional data center needs to cool machines, a biological one like this needs to keep tissue alive. And that also changes the nature of the infrastructure. The potential reward is enormous. Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/tecnologia/inauguran-centro-datos-que-funciona-neuronas-humanas_202608236a8acb1771b42a0b5d00772d.html
