National Police Warn of Sharp Rise in WhatsApp Scams in Spain: {Trans, summary}
– Police report a sharp rise in WhatsApp scam attempts over the past month, with complaints logged in Jaen and across Spain. The method is unusual. The criminal does not lock the victim out of their account. Instead, the victim keeps normal access to WhatsApp, while the scammer sends messages from that same account using the victim’s identity. – The requested transfer is often sent to a bank account, sometimes held abroad.
– Advice from police: Keep your phone system and WhatsApp fully updated with the newest updates, turn on two step verification, check linked devices regularly, never share SMS, QR, registration or verification codes, passwords or bank details, and confirm any unexpected money request by another route before paying. If you are affected, warn your contacts by another means, report the impersonation to WhatsApp, keep screenshots and dates, and file a police report. Zapatero claims that the jewels found in his office were a “gift” from the Saudi Royal Family in 2007: {Trans, summary}

Here Come Rent Controls- PSOE will ask the Andalusian Parliament to declare Nerja and Maro as stressed areas in order to limit rental prices: {Trans, summary}

Argentina’s president doubles down on Falklands claim during UN speech:
– Argentine President Javier Milei has reaffirmed Argentina’s claim to the Falklands during a speech to the UN General Assembly.
Milei accused the United Nations of failing to enforce international resolutions that urge the parties to “refrain from introducing unilateral changes while the dispute remains unresolved”.
– He also called on Britain to resume negotiations to “find a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute” over the islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas. “The Malvinas issue is not merely a matter between Argentina and the United Kingdom; it is also a question regarding this organisation’s ability to enforce its own resolutions,” he said.
– Earlier this month, Milei escalated his country’s dispute with the UK over the islands, vowing new measures to halt an oil project near the British-controlled archipelago and praising Trump for saying Washington could reconsider its neutral stance on the islands’ sovereignty.
– His government last week introduced a sweeping security bill that would toughen sanctions on companies exploiting resources around the islands without Argentine authorisation, and create a national security council chaired by Milei.
– Speaking to global leaders at the UN on Wednesday, Milei intensified his criticism. “Today I come to say that Argentina will not sit and wait for the UN and the international community to live up to their own mandate,” he said.
– He also sharply criticised the United Nations and its role, accusing it of becoming “a useless organisation that serves only to feed a caste of fatally arrogant parasites masquerading as well-intentioned bureaucrats”.
– Against the backdrop of Milei’s recent remarks, Andy Burnham also addressed the dispute at the UN, stating on Tuesday that the UK’s position is “clear” and that it will “stand firm” in the face of any threats. “We will defend the right of the Falkland Islanders to self-determination and to remain British,” Burnham told reporters following a meeting with Trump late on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN.
– The Falkland Islands are a small archipelago of about 3,500 people located around 300 miles east of the south-east coast of Argentina. They have been a British overseas territory since 1833.

Spain, the EU country with the most degraded land and the highest desertification: {Trans, summary}
– Spain has the largest area of degraded land in the EU and the highest level of desertification in Europe. According to the Joint Research Centre, Spain has 55,631 km² of degraded land, ahead of Italy with 36,990 km² and Hungary with 13,229 km². Finland has the smallest area, at 1,327 km².
– Desertification affects 53% of Spanish territory to some degree, followed by Cyprus at 45%, Greece at 36% and Portugal at 28%. Across the EU, around 530,000 km² are affected, roughly 12% of the bloc, with repercussions for some 42 million people.
