French police clash with protesters over health pass requirement: Thousands of security forces have been deployed around Paris to confront citizens protesting plans to introduce coronavirus passes. The protests are the third in as many weeks.
Nationwide, around 204,000 people took part in protests across the country, according to the Interior Ministry. The numbers were up from the figures logged during protests last weekend.
In Paris, police used teargas and force when confronting protesters at four different rallies across the city. Full article: https://www.dw.com/en/french-police-clash-with-protesters-over-health-pass-requirement/a-58717872
Crowds in Berlin defy ban, protest coronavirus restrictions:
Local authorities banned several different protests this weekend, including one from the Stuttgart-based Querdenker movement, which expected 22,500 attendees. But protesters defied the ban, gathering Sunday around the city. Berlin’s police department, which deployed more than 2,000 officers, said as crowds grew, officers who sought to redirect protesters or disband larger groups were “harassed and attacked.”
“They tried to break through the police cordon and pull out our colleagues,” it said, adding that police had to use irritants and batons.
The protests, including in Berlin’s Charlottenburg neighborhood and Tiergarten Park, led to multiple arrests, police said.
Another 80,000 people also protested in cities across Italy last weekend. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/europe-health-arrests-coronavirus-pandemic-berlin-874d5e69750ffbb0e8364d15351cc3ad

Desperate NSW calls in the ARMY to enforce hardcore lockdown on two million Sydneysiders after worst-ever Covid numbers: This follows NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s admission that she should have locked Sydney down sooner as NSW clocked 239 new cases on Thursday, just a day after extending the city’s lockdown for another four weeks.
Ms Berejiklian also announced two million Sydney residents living in one of eight hotspot LGAs in the west and south-western suburbs would have to wear a mask whenever they leave home. Those areas are Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield, Liverpool, Blacktown, Cumberland, Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River.
From midnight on Saturday morning, residents in those LGAs also cannot travel more than 5km from their home for essential shopping or for exercise. Full article: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9838177/NSW-call-Australian-army-enforce-lockdown-Sydney-worst-Covid-19-numbers-Thursday.html
Study says vaccinated people can carry as much virus as others: In another dispiriting setback for the USA’s efforts to stamp out the coronavirus, scientists who studied a big COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts concluded that vaccinated people who got so-called breakthrough infections carried about the same amount of the coronavirus as those who did not get the shots.
The findings have the potential to upend past thinking about how the disease is spread. Previously, vaccinated people who got infected were thought to have low levels of virus and to be unlikely to pass it to others. But the new data shows that is not the case with the delta variant. Censorship News- YouTube suspends Sky News Australia channel: YouTube said Sunday it had barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for one week, citing concerns about Covid-19 misinformation. (I don’t know about you, but I trust Sky News Australia far more than I trust YouTube when it comes to news accuracy. -Ed.)
Their last YouTube upload, from three days ago, features a host claiming that lockdowns have failed and criticising state authorities for extending Sydney’s current stay-at-home orders.
Sky News, with 1.86 million YouTube subscribers, confirmed the temporary ban and a spokesperson said “we support broad discussion and debate on a wide range of topics and perspectives which is vital to any democracy”.
