Recommendations needed: Taxi Torrox to airport. For the first time ever we need to take taxis to and from the airport in the coming weeks. Out of the local taxi companies, do any stand out as more reliable/reasonably priced over others? Has anyone been collected from their campo home or will we have to meet them on the main road somewhere? Thanks! Barbara Torrox Campo

Covid Andalucia- Hospital pressure reduces as Covid-19 incidence rate in Andalucía rises to 33.2:

DGT to make black boxes mandatory in vehicles: Under instruction from the European Commission in Brussels, black boxes will be fitted in vehicles throughout Europe in 2022.
These black boxes, doing a similar job to flight recorders in aircraft, will be located underneath the driver’s seat, bolted to the chassis. It will record all the significant data that can be used at a later date in the event of an accident. Information will constantly be recorded then erased, although the device will not record any video or audio.
This regulation will come into force alongside the anti-start breathalyser devices that cars will need to have installed by July 6, 2022. This law, along with the black box, or ‘data recorder’, are both subject to approval yet, but as a specific date is being given then it is clearly a foregone conclusion. By 2024 the devices will reportedly both be mandatory on all new models that come out of dealerships.

Spain’s second state of alarm for Covid was also unconstitutional, says divided court: Meeting this Wednesday, the high court has declared that Spain’s second state of alarm for coronavirus, decreed in October last year for a period of six months, was unconstitutional. As with the court’s similar ruling on the first Covid state of alarm, in July, the vote was split: six votes for and four against. As well, a few weeks ago the court declared that the supposed “closure” of Congress during the first wave was also constitutionally out of order.
Once again, a tight majority of the full Constitutional Court has ended up accepting the appeal lodged by far-right Vox in opposition to the government’s decree. Full article: https://www.elnacional.cat/en/news/spain-state-of-alarm-covid-unconstitutional-court_662786_102.html

Widespread rain forecast threatens to put damper on holiday weekend in Spain: Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, has warned of the probability of widespread rainfall across the whole of the mainland and the Balearic Islands as of Thursday, 28 October and continuing over the ‘bridge’ weekend, which includes the All Saints’ Day public holiday on Monday, 1 November. Carrefour trials the sale of second-hand clothing in two of its stores in Spain: Carrefour, the supermarket giant, has launched a pilot project in Madrid and Barcelona that could be rolled out to other stores in Spain if it is successful. The French company trialed the sale of second-hand clothes in two of its Spanish hypermarkets with the aim of promoting the recycling of clothes. Woman arrested in Malaga for impersonating an immigration lawyer and scamming foreign clients: National Police officers have arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly impersonating a lawyer and attracting clients through social media networks that she then scammed.
The force said the detained suspect had charged foreign clients more than 1,500 euros for managing immigration procedures that she never resolved.
The scheme was uncovered after one of the scammed people went to the office of the lawyer whose identity the 25-year-old had assumed. And it was the genuine lawyer herself who went to the police station to report that there was an unknown woman using her name and professional collegiate number.
In another case, the same fake lawyer received 1,500 euros for representing another foreign person in a divorce and child custody proceeding. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/woman-arrested-malaga-20211027173622-nt.html

Brussels reacts coolly to Spain’s proposal for curbing high energy prices: France, Greece and Hungary show a positive response to the plan but the EU Commission is unwilling for the moment to make significant changes to the existing system. Nine EU members, including Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Finland backed a statement opposing any major changes to the system.
This system has pushed up electricity rates everywhere, including in Spain where considerable production from renewables could in theory offer consumers cheaper energy. Electricity wholesale prices surged more than 200% between January and September, driving up retail prices. And no let-up is expected at least until March of next year on a continent that is highly dependent on imported gas. Tennis News- ATP Vienna, Alcaraz gains Murray revenge: Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz avenged his Indian Wells defeat to Andy Murray on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP event in Vienna. Alcaraz, 16 years younger than former world number one and three-time major winner Murray, clinched a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Last month, Murray, now ranked 156 in the world, had stunned his 42nd-ranked opponent in three sets in the second round of the prestigious Masters tournament in the Californian desert.
Alcaraz will face either third-seeded Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini or Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia for a place in the semi-finals. Photo:JOE KLAMAR AFP. Full article: https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20211027-alcaraz-gains-murray-revenge-in-vienna

Football News- Koeman sacked as Barcelona coach: Ronald Koeman has been sacked as coach of Barcelona, the club announced on Wednesday, after defeat by Rayo Vallecano left the club ninth in La Liga.
Barca have won only two of their last seven league games under Koeman, a run that included losing to Real Madrid in Sunday’s Clasico at Camp Nou.
A poor start to the season has raised the possibility of the team failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which would have enormous consequences for the club’s already-dire financial situation. Cricket News T20- England beats Bangladesh by 8 wickets at T20 World Cup: Ali (2-18) picked up the wickets of the openers with the new ball and Livingstone (2-15) got the two set batsmen out in the middle overs to restrict Bangladesh to 124-9 in the first ever T20 between the two countries. Jason Roy (61) celebrated his 50th T20 appearance for England with an impressive half century as the top-ranked team eased to 126-2 in 14.1 overs.
