Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

Recommendations & Requests

TV Repair Advice: This tv is causing me a problem I cannot resolve.
TV Model LG LED TV 24TK410V 60cm/2
The remote will turn the TV on but will not perform any other functions. It also leaves the volume slider visual on the screen set to zero, which cannot be removed or controlled by the remote. A mag box can be connected and controlled by its own remote but because this will not override the volume issue the TV is useless as there is no volume and the screen is compromised by the permanent volume icon. There are no controls on the TV apart from an On/Off button. I have thought of buying a new remote but wanted to get another take on the problem before going down that route.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone out there in Digame-land that has a solution apart from putting it by the bins.

COVID-19

Covid Spain- Covid rate rises to 139.1 with 34 deaths: This Tuesday the incidence rate in Spain rises to 139.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, seven points more than this Monday. Navarra remains at the head of the autonomous communities with the highest incidence, and on this day almost 400 cases are reported for every 100,000 inhabitants.
There have been 34 deaths have been reported this Tuesday from COVID-19, while 22 deaths were recorded on Monday. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/the-incidence-rises-another-seven-points-to-139-cases-after-notifying-6777-new-infections/

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia exceeds 70 points of incidence, 782 positive results, 2 deaths: {Translation, summary} 22/11/2021,12:45
-Andalusia recorded this Monday, November 22, a total of 782 coronavirus infections in 48 hours, a figure higher than the 741 infections on Saturday and also higher than the 338 a week ago, while adding two deaths, two less than on Saturday and one less than last Monday.
-The two deaths of this day have been recorded in the province of Malaga.
-In Andalusia, the incidence in 14 days stands at 71.06 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – the highest since September 20 when 72.9 were recorded – which is 5.3 points more than Saturday (65.7) and 26.5 points more than last Monday.
-The 782 infections this Sunday and Monday are reported after 741 on Saturday, 718 on Friday, 737 on Thursday, 564 on Wednesday, 487 on Tuesday and 338 last Monday.
-With respect to the provincialized data, Malaga is the province with the most positives with 201, followed by Seville with 163, Cadiz with 105, Almeria with 104, Cordoba with 64, Huelva with 51, Granada with 46 and Jaen with 48.
-Malaga is the province with the most hospitalized patients with 68 and 16 ICU patients, followed by Seville with 33 and four in ICU, Jaen with 22 and three in ICU, Cordoba with 20 and three in ICU, Granada with 19 and three in ICU, Almeria with 16 and nine in ICU, Cadiz with 17 and two in ICU and Huelva with 13 and one in ICU.

SPAIN

The new COVID traffic light is approved without setting restrictions after the controversy over hospitality hours: The tensions between the communities and the Ministry of Health on account of the new COVID traffic light have ended, for the moment, with a strange solution: the Public Health Commission has given the green light to lower the accumulated incidence thresholds corresponding to each alert level, but the approved document does not contain any restriction associated with each stage of risk.
-Alert level 1 (low risk) has a new ceiling: it rises from 50 to 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days (a maximum of 50 in seven). The medium risk (alert level 2) is reached if it exceeds 100; the high (alert level 3) is above 300 and the extreme (alert level 4) would be reached with an AI that exceeds 500.
The document maintains special attention to transmission among those over 65 years of age because the group has the highest risk of dying if they are not vaccinated, have comorbidities (other diseases that make them more vulnerable) and in general respond worse to immunization because their body is weaker. Level 1 is reached if the AI ??of this age group exceeds 25 cases; the 2, with 50; the 3, with 150 and the 4 if it is higher than 250.
-Remaining conflicts have prevented reaching a final, complete agreement. The heart of the matter is in the measures on the hotel industry. Many regional governments are not willing, at least for the moment and with the Christmas holidays looming, to limit the activity of the hotel industry, either with schedules or with capacity.
-The review of risk levels is also important at the terminological level. The document no longer speaks of “new normality” as the best scenario but of “controlled circulation”. Compared to what was previously considered, at this point in the pandemic it is relatively clear, experts say, that it is not possible to achieve group immunity. At least with the effect of current vaccines since the virus can continue to be transmitted – to a lesser extent – between immunized individuals.

Scam Alert: The Guardia Civil has taken to its Twitter social media account to warn about a scam involving the popular Lidl kitchen robot ‘Monsieur Cuisine’, which was withdrawn from the market in Spain after a well-publicised court ruling.
The fraudulent campaign, with the excuse of Black Friday, announces an offer of 1.99 euros for a kitchen robot. The advertisement on social media networks the redirects the user to a website that requests personal and bank details for the alleged purchase of the robot, but what it hides is a subscription to a service that costs 33 euros every 14 days.
The fake offer was originally detected on Facebook, although it is not ruled out that may find its way onto other social networks or arrive via email. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/lidl-guardia-civil-20211123122420-nt.html

ANDALUCIA

Andalusia is committed to a mandatory Covid passport but positioned itself against the document known as the “Covid traffic light”: {Translation, summary} 23/11/2021, 20:28
-The committee of experts will meet again on Friday at 11.30 am at the Palacio de San Telmo and will ask the Ministry of Health to make the Covid passport mandatory. It rules out for now the application of restrictive measures and the change of provincial levels despite the fact that the evolution of the pandemic is “worrying but not alarming”.
-The Minister of Health, Jesús Aguirre, during his intervention in the press conference following the Governing Council, assured that Andalusia will progressively adopt the “Covid passport” depending on the evolution of the pandemic. This document could be required in hospitals and residences, and also in nightlife, large events, cultural and sports activities.
-For its implementation, the Board will need the “administrative permissibility” of the High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), although it will require the Spanish Government to “change the legislation so that the autonomous communities have tools” to combat the pandemic.
-However, “a change in the levels of the provinces or the application of restrictions is not contemplated”, as confirmed by Aguirre.
-Andalusia positioned itself against the document known as the “Covid traffic light”. It included measures such as the closure of the hotel and catering business at 23.00 hours and nightlife at 1.00 hours or the limitation of capacity.
-On Tuesday afternoon, the Public Health Commission met and approved the part of the document which established the indicators and risk levels, but not the restrictive measures mentioned.

Free Bar/Museum to a Manager with children: {Translation} In the heart of the Sierra de los Filabres in Almeria, the City Council of Laroya offers free management of the only bar-museum in the town of just 200 inhabitants. They are looking for a couple, preferably with children between 3 and 10 years old, to also add new students to the rural school.
“Are you looking for a job in a more familiar environment to raise your children? Do you like charming mountain villages? We are waiting for you in Laroya, a wonderful town that continues to fight against rural depopulation”, says the poster of the advertisement.
Laroya, one of the municipalities with the smallest number of inhabitants in the province of Almería, suffers the effects of depopulation, however, it has more than one hundred rural accommodation places.
The mayor of the town, Dolores Moreno has explained that the bar is open and running, but that the current manager has turned 67 years old and is going to retire.
The new managers of the bar will have all the facilities and will only have to pay for electricity, water and maintenance. The premises are equipped with tables, chairs, kitchenware and kitchen, ready to carry out the activity.
The bar-museum is located in the old oil mill of the village that was recently restored and has the machinery that was used to work the oil, being an additional attraction for tourism. To apply for the management of the establishment, you can contact through ayuntamiento@laroya.es.
