Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

PCR tests and self-isolation are back for travelers arriving in the UK: Weeks after international travel rules were eased to allow cheaper and faster lateral flow (antigen) tests, the government has tightened restrictions once again in response to the spread of the omicron variant of coronavirus. Spain to stop unvaccinated Brits arriving from Wednesday: Spain is to ban all unvaccinated Brits from entering the country from Wednesday after the new Omicron variant was discovered in England.
According to the Government the change will come in from December 1 and will impact everyone aged 12 and over who plans to travel to the UK’s most popular holiday destination.
Currently anyone travelling to Spain from the UK needs to show either a negative coronavirus test or proof showing they have been double-jabbed.
But the rules will now change after three cases of the Omicron coronavirus strain were discovered in the UK – one is Essex, one in Nottingham, and one in London.
A message posted on the Gov.uk website states: “From December 1, all arrivals to Spain from the UK (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) must present proof of vaccination.”
From December anyone arriving in Spain will also have to fill out a health control form and show their vaccination record.
Travellers will have to show they have had both of their jabs at least 14 days before arriving in the country. Full article: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/spain-to-stop-unvaccinated-brits-arriving-from-wednesday/ar-AARdQCq

EUROPE

Greece to fine over-60s who refuse Covid-19 vaccine: Fines of €100 (£85) will be imposed at monthly intervals from mid-January on those who refuse, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
The money will go towards the Greek health system, which is struggling with a surge in hospital admissions.
About 63% of Greece’s 11-million population is fully vaccinated, but data show more than 520,000 people over 60 are yet to get the jab.
“Greeks over the age of 60… must book their appointment for a first jab by January 16,” the premier said in a statement to the cabinet.
“Their vaccination is henceforth compulsory.”
The measure is still to be put to a parliamentary vote, he said, but lawmakers are widely expected to approve it. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59474808
