Tomorrow is a National Holiday: Wednesday, 8 Dec., 2021
Immaculate Conception is a public holiday in 27 countries. In Spain, it is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.
Many Christian communities around the world annually observe the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8. This day is a holy day of obligation in which many Christians, particularly of the Catholic faith, attend special church services for this occasion.

COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- Covid infection rate accelerates in Andalusia in the middle of the long weekend but is not noticeable in hospitals: {Translation} 06/12/2021 14:22h
-The Covid pandemic curve in Andalusia continues its upward trend and the rate of infection is accelerating during business lunches and Christmas travel: the cumulative incidence for 14 days has reached 135.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Monday. This is 10.6 points more than 48 hours ago. Just a week ago this rate was below 100 (99.5) cases.
-The community recorded this December 6 up to 1,638 coronavirus infections in two days, which represents the highest figure since August 27, when 1,698 were counted. This is the fourth consecutive day above 1,200. In addition, there have been three new deaths, the same as on Saturday.
-Hospitalizations are growing but at a slower rate than in the previous five waves thanks to widespread vaccination coverage. The region has 80.8% of the population with the complete vaccination schedule and 91.8% of those over 12 years of age, while 82.2% of the population and 93.4% of those over 12 years of age have received the first dose.
-In the last 48 hours, there have been five more hospitalizations due to Covid-19, bringing the total to 328, an increase of 73 compared to a week ago, while the number of patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has risen by one to 70, 13 more than last week.
-The 1,638 cases of this Monday exceed the 1,232 of Saturday, the 1,233 of Friday, the 1,226 of Thursday, the 868 of Wednesday, the 915 of Tuesday and the 883 of Monday and last Sunday. The province with more infections is Malaga is the province, with 442, followed by Seville with 410, Cadiz with 288, Huelva with 150, Jaen with 131, Almeria with 100, Granada with 59 and Cordoba with 58. While the deceased two are from Cordoba and one from Jaen.
-Malaga is the province with more hospitalized with 90 and 24 ICU patients, followed by Seville with 74 and eleven in ICU, Cordoba with 39 and ten in ICU, Almeria with 30 and 13 in ICU, Jaen with 28 and three in ICU, Cadiz with 28 and four in ICU, Huelva with 21 and three in ICU and Granada with 18 and two in ICU. Covid Spain- More than half of Spain at medium risk for coronavirus: Coronavirus cases in Spain continue to rise, but this spike is not affecting all regions equally. According to the latest Health Ministry report, released Friday evening, the cumulative incidence of infections over the previous 14 days now stands at 248 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 234 on Thursday.
-Under the new traffic light system, which assesses the risk level of the pandemic, seven of Spain’s 17 regions are at medium risk. They are Catalonia, Navarre, Aragón, the Valencia region, the Basque Country, Madrid and Castilla y León. In other words, more than half of the Spanish population – 26.2 million people – are living in a region where community transmission is widespread and the healthcare system is under constant and rising pressure. The rest of Spain is at low risk, meaning the spread of the virus is not affecting hospitals.
-But the epidemiological situation in Spain is far from promising. The curve of infections has shot up and, although it has not reached the levels being seen in other European countries, such as the Czech Republic, Austria and Belgium, where the 14-day cumulative incidence rate is more than 2,000 cases per 100,000, the rate of new cases is on an upward trend. In one week, the incidence rate in Spain jumped 45%, while hospital admissions rose by 26%. The situation is unlikely to improve given the upcoming Christmas festive season. Extinguished- the forest fire declared on Friday in Cómpeta that affected 22.58 hectares (22.58 acres): {Translation}
The forest fire declared last Friday in the place Pico Cisne in the municipality of Competa has been extinguished on Monday at 18:00 hours by the Infoca Plan.
This has been indicated by the Forest Fire Fighting Service of Andalusia, through a message on his Twitter account, according to Malaga Hoy.
The fire, they have recalled, burned a total of 22.58 hectares, according to the final measurement of the Forest Fire Investigation Brigade (BIIF). This fire was controlled on Saturday at 14:00 hours and in the area have worked up to a hundred troops on the ground and also by air with both heavy and light helicopters. MALAGA

At least 70 staff at Malaga’s Regional Hospital, all vaccinated, test Covid-positive after Christmas meal for 174: SUR has been able to confirm that at least 70 workers at the city hospital are in quarantine at home after supposedly being infected at a Christmas meal for staff.
The Junta de Andalucía’s General Directorate of Public Health has reported an outbreak that affects 22 professionals from the Regional Hospital, although different sources consulted by SUR raise that figure to 70. The majority of those infected work in the hospital’s intensive care unit. All were apparently vaccinated and most of them are asymptomatic. Britons Facing Long Queues at Spanish Airports Due to Passport Checks: Travellers from the United Kingdom who have reached Spain in the last few days have faced long queues of up to 45 minutes. This is because the UK nationals now need to wait in the non-EU travellers’ line for their passports to be checked and stamped, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Taking into account that the winter holidays are just around the corner and with more people wishing to visit famous Spanish destinations, such as the Canary and the Balearic Islands, the travel agencies have called on Britons to be prepared for even longer lines during the upcoming weeks. EUROPE

France to close nightclubs until 2022, extend use of face masks in schools amid Covid-19 surge: Nightclubs in France will be ordered to close for four weeks starting this weekend to counter surging Covid-19 cases that have seen hospitals announce emergency protocols as beds fill up, Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Monday.
Stricter social distancing and extended use of face masks will also be required in schools. Health passes proving Covid vaccination or inoculation will now be required for eating in reserved zones at outdoor Christmas markets. Updated Covid Activity Restrictions in EU Countries for the Holidays:
-Italy is making life more uncomfortable for unvaccinated people this holiday season, excluding them from indoor restaurants, theaters and museums starting Monday. Italian police have been empowered to check whether diners in restaurants or bars have a “super” green health pass.
-Switzerland on Monday began allowing — but not requiring — event organizers to bar anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated or hasn’t recovered from COVID-19.
-Sweden introduced a vaccination requirement for indoor events with more than 100 people starting Dec. 1.
-On Monday, the Netherlands reversed itself on plans to open indoor venues to vaccinated people only, sticking instead with a 5 p.m. closure for restaurants, cinemas and other public sites. Sarco suicide capsule ‘passes legal review’ in Switzerland:
-A 3D-printed capsule, destined for use in assisted suicide, may legally be operated in Switzerland, according to advice obtained by Exit International, the organisation that developed the ‘Sarco’ machine.
– It’s a 3-D printed capsule, activated from the inside by the person intending to die. The machine can be towed anywhere for the death. It can be in an idyllic outdoor setting or in the premises of an assisted suicide organisation, for example.
-The person will get into the capsule and lie down. It’s very comfortable. They will be asked a number of questions and when they have answered, they may press the button inside the capsule activating the mechanism in their own time.
-The capsule is sitting on a piece of equipment that will flood the interior with nitrogen, rapidly reducing the oxygen level to 1 per cent from 21 per cent in about 30 seconds. The person will feel a little disoriented and may feel slightly euphoric before they lose consciousness. Death takes place through hypoxia and hypocapnia, oxygen and carbon dioxide deprivation, respectively. There is no panic, no choking feeling. [In an environment where the oxygen is less than 1 per cent, after losing consciousness death would occur after approximately 5-10 minutes, according to Philip Nitschke.]

EU Citizens Now Subject to Pre-Departure COVID-19 Testing When Travelling to UK: The British government has introduced the testing requirement to nationals arriving from the European Union Member States in a bid to minimize the further spread of Omicron, the new variant of the COVID-19 virus.
Such a decision means that starting from Tuesday, December 7, vaccinated and unvaccinated European nationals are obliged to present a negative LFD or PCR pre-departure test certificate, not older than 48 hours, in order to enter the United Kingdom. DoctorLaptop’s Tips #96, 07DEC21
Modest Supply of New Budget Priced Windows Laptops Hitting the Stores in Time for the Holidays- What you need to know before buying!!!:
-In order to provide the popular budget priced laptops at prices under €550, the manufacturers are cutting corners, using lower quality components and assembly methods.
-Some of these new budget laptops are “disposable” and can’t have their hardware upgraded, meaning they are not engineered to be disassembled, repaired or upgraded with more RAM or a new hard drive. Some even use glue instead of screws to hold everything together. The manufacturers expect you to get 2 to 4yrs use, and then replace it. I strongly recommend getting a 2yr extended warranty on these models (so 3yrs total coverage). If it breaks under waranty they will just replace it with a new one. When these low budget laptops break, recovering data from the hard drive is difficult, it requires breaking open the case to extract the hard drive, which may not even be possible if it is soldered in, and then installing that drive into another laptop. Keeping regular data backups is strongly advised.
-Windows is steadily moving to the Apple way of doing operating system repairs with the release of Windows 11. Rather than “patching” a corrupt Windows system as techs have been able to do up until now, many major Windows system repairs will be fixed by reinstalling the system. That is the Apple approach, any serious problems require a reinstall to fix. Keep in mind, saved data files are often lost or corrupted during a Windows reinstall. This way of doing repairs assumes the user always keeps current data backups on an external device or a cloud account.
-In the €550-€900 range the laptops are better quality and are built so they can be disassembled for repairs and upgrades. These have a 4 to 5yr expected life, or more if properly maintained with annual professional servicing.
-If you want a better quality laptop, that will last for 6 yrs or more, with an extra sturdy construction, metal frame and strong hinges, that can be disassembled for repairs and upgrades, you need to specifically ask for a “small business laptop” at a major computer outlet, like MediaMarkt. These will cost about €100 to €150 more than a standard build laptop with the same specs. If you spend endless hours on your laptop, or travel with it, you will appreciate the difference.

Finally, a Fusion Reaction Has Generated More Energy Than Absorbed by The Fuel: A major milestone has been breached in the quest for fusion energy.
For the first time, a fusion reaction has achieved a record 1.3 megajoule energy output – and for the first time, exceeding energy absorbed by the fuel used to trigger it.
Although there’s still some way to go, the result represents a significant improvement on previous yields: eight times greater than experiments conducted just a few months prior, and 25 times greater than experiments conducted in 2018. It’s a huge achievement.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has argued that travel restrictions don’t affect the COVID-19 infection rates and that governments should find other solutions to mitigate the risk of infections: Such preventive measures didn’t decrease the infection rates.
“Peaks and troughs in new COVID-19 infections have happened even as international travel restrictions stayed stable throughout 2021, and the consistent increase in cases in 2020 took place even as restrictions were at their highest,” IATA notes in a press release.
The same pointed out that the travel restrictions have marked a drastic change in societies and economies, with a halved capacity and revenues and preventing families and people from being together.
