Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.

Volcanic tremors stop on La Palma but eruption may not be over:
The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma fell silent as constant tremors stopped late on Monday, though experts cautioned this did not necessarily mean the eruption is nearing an end after 85 days. Seismic activity all but stopped around 9 pm local time on Monday, the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute, Involcan, said on Tuesday. It’s the longest period without tremors since the eruption began. “This does not imply the eruption is ending, since on other occasions halts were followed by a renewed increase in activity,” Involcan tweeted. The wholesale price of electricity marks another historical record at 291.73 euros / MWh driven by gas: The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will stand at 291.73 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) this Wednesday, pulverizing the historical maximum of 288.53 euros / MWh reached on October 7. The new record is a consequence of the stratospheric rise in natural gas, the price of which has soared this week as a result of tensions between the West and Russia. The prices set by the Iberian pool for this Tuesday are still lower than those of France (more than 346 euros / MWh), Germany (295 euros) or Austria (311 euros). The Netherlands extends night lockdown for a month and brings school holidays forward: {Translation} December 14, 2021 – 10:40 p.m.
-The Dutch Government announced this Tuesday that the current “night lockdown”, whereby all non-essential activity closes at 5:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. GMT), will be extended until January 14, and the closure will be brought forward one week by Primary school holidays due to the threat of the omicron variant.
-Acting Prime Minister Mark Rutte said in a press conference that the extension of the current restrictions is “inevitable” during Christmas and the two weeks after the new year, so anyone who offers a non-essential service , including hotels, shops and gyms, must close from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (04:00 GMT).
-Additionally, the maximum number of guests to a home is limited to four people over the age of 13 per day, and no exceptions to this rule will apply for Christmas or New Year’s Eve family gatherings. Primary schools will bring up the Christmas holidays, so they will close from next Monday, and will not reopen their doors until January 10, although they will not be obliged to offer virtual education to children during that time. Worldwide Computer Hack: A new exploit is allowing hackers access to many of the international computer networks and data bases that major corporations rely on to run the Internet and provide user services.
Chinese hackers are already exploiting a ‘fully weaponised’ software vulnerability which is causing mayhem on the web, with experts warning that it is the ‘most serious’ threat they have seen in decades.
That could mean stealing data on those servers such as medical records and photos, plundering company databases for people’s bank details, or locking up servers and extorting firms in so-called ‘ransomware’ attacks.
And there is little that most ordinary users can do to stop this from happening, or any way to tell if data has been stolen in this way. Most companies will have additional security measures in place such as encryption software which would likely protect sensitive data, but users will have little or no way of knowing if this is the case and will be unable to take extra measures to protect the data even if they find out it is vulnerable.
The flaw is considered so serious because the affected software is used in the wide range of devices that use Java software. It is so popular and embedded across many companies’ programs that security executives expect widespread abuse.
Online services used by millions including Netflix, Amazon, Uber and LinkedIn and cloud-based services such Apple iCloud, Android OS, Google Documents and more are all understood to be under threat from the software bug.
As one cybersecurity source who spoke to MailOnline put it: ‘This is where you put your faith in the lap of the computer Gods and hope it gets fixed soon.’ (The best advice for now is to keep everything, your system and all software & apps, fully updated. Exploit patches will be included in new updates if and when they become available. Also, keep a close eye on all bills, statements and receipts for unauthorized transactions. -Ed.) NASA craft ‘touches’ sun for 1st time, dives into the corona: A NASA spacecraft has officially “touched” the sun, plunging through the unexplored solar atmosphere known as the corona.
Scientists announced the news Tuesday during a meeting of the American Geophysical Union. The Parker Solar Probe actually flew through the corona in April during the spacecraft’s eighth close approach to the sun. Scientists said it took a few months to get the data back and then several more months to confirm. The Parker will keep drawing ever closer to the sun and diving deeper into the corona until its grand finale orbit in 2025. Artists Rendering Image:NASA/AP. Annapurna III- The great mountaineering challenge of the 20th century is finally conquered: Annapurna (8,091 meters), the first mountain standing over 8,000 meters high to be conquered by man – Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal made the first ascent in 1950 – hid other Annapurnas in its shadow, none of which are as severe and complex as the southeast ridge of Annapurna III (7,555 meters). This autumn, it was finally climbed. Marked as the great objective of mountaineering in the 20th century, Annapurna III had been visited by some of the most famous names in the business, who made their attempts in dribs and drabs over the last 40 years.
