Covid Andalucia- Andalusia registers 2,821 cases and its rate rises three points to 265.6: {Translation, 1st 5 paragraphs} 10/03/2022 13:20
-On Thursday 10 March, Andalusia recorded a total of 2,821 positive results for Covid-19 in 24 hours, 172 more than the previous day, while 16 people died, seven fewer than on Wednesday and a very similar figure to that of a week ago (17).
-According to data consulted by Europa Press at the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), the rate in the region stands at 265.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 3.1 points more than on Wednesday.
-The 2,821 infections are registered after 2,649 on Wednesday, 1,512 on Tuesday, 5,278 on Monday (72 hours), 2,809 on Friday and 2,457 on Thursday. By provinces, Malaga is the one with the most infections with 778, followed by Cadiz with 449, Seville with 413, Almeria with 275, Cordoba with 265, Granada with 235, Jaen with 212 and Huelva with 194. Regarding the 16 deaths, four are registered in the province of Almeria, three in Cadiz and three in Malaga, two in Cordoba and one each in Seville, Jaen, Granada and Huelva.
-Andalusia has recorded this Thursday a drop of 30 patients hospitalised for coronavirus compared to Wednesday to a total of 642, while ICU admissions fell by two to 86 people.
-By provinces, Malaga is the one with more hospitalised patients with 164 and 17 in ICU, followed by Seville with 123 and 20 in ICU, Cadiz with 89 and eight in ICU, Granada with 82 hospitalised and nine in ICU, Jaen with 64 hospitalised and eight in ICU, Cordoba with 63 hospitalised and 16 in ICU, Almeria with 35 hospitalised and six in ICU and Huelva with 22 hospitalised and two in ICU. SPAIN
Prices have shot up in Spain following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the province’s economy is already affected:
-Sergio Cuberos, the president of the Malaga Chamber of Commerce, says the situation is truly alarming. “The increase in fuel and energy prices is going to cause an existential crisis for many businesses,” he says.
-The president of the Mahos hospitality association in Malaga, Javier Frutos, says hopes have been dashed of 2022 being the year of recovery. “Prices had already started going up and that was a problem, but now there is starting to be a shortage of basic products like sunflower oil, which is used for frying. The price of electricity breaks records every day, and things are difficult,” he says.
-The president of Dcoop, Antonio Luque, says prices will continue to rise even if the war ends soon, and that countries need to go back to being self-sufficient. “If we can’t even make a profit even when we sell at high prices because production costs have risen so much, well, then we have a problem,” he says.

Spain to stop counting Covid infections except for serious cases: Spain’s Health Ministry on Thursday announced it will stop keeping count of all Covid-19 infections in the country, with the exception of serious cases and those affecting vulnerable people. Spain’s far right Vox party enters regional government for first time:
Spain’s Vox party on Thursday entered a regional government as part of a coalition agreement with the right-wing Popular Party (PP, a conservative and Christian-democratic political party according to Wikipedia), the first time in Spain’s democratic history that the far right will govern in a region.
-The country’s highly decentralised system gives Spain’s 17 regions broad powers, meaning Vox’s entry into the regional government of Castilla y León, just north of Madrid, will give it a major impact on policy. Vox leader in the region Juan García-Gallardo will be Castilla y León vice-president, the parties have agreed.
-The regional governments of both Andalusia and the Madrid area are also PP-led, but for now are supported from the outside, rather than power-sharing, by Vox, in exchange for political concessions. (Why is this important? If Andalucia follows this trend, we could see Vox have a greater impact on Andalucian policy after the next election, with a swing to the conservative/right. -Ed.) MALAGA
Fuel prices reach record highs because of the war in Ukraine:
-Prices have already risen by about 25 céntimos per litre in Malaga province since the Russian invasion and it is expected to become even more expensive. In just one month it now costs around 12.50 euros more to fill a 50-litre tank
-This is the first time ever that fuel has risen to nearly two euros per litre, a psychological barrier which the sector says is almost certain to be broken through very soon.
-There are differences, depending on where you are: on Wednesday a filling station in Antequera was selling diesel at 1.99 euros per litre, while the cheapest was in Marbella, at 1.499.
-The most expensive 95-octane petrol was in Pizarra (1.916) and Marbella (1.914), while the cheapest could be found in Mollina and Marbella, at 1.596.
-Malaga city has its own idiosyncracies when it comes to fuel, because there is little competition from low-cost companies. The cheapest diesel was at Petroprix, at 1.659, and the most expensive was Galp, where it cost 1.919.
-Petrol in Malaga was cheapest at Petroprix (1.759) and most expensive at Repsol, Shell and Cepsa, at 1.889. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/fuel-prices-malaga-20220310101027-nt.html
World’s Best Fabada 2022: The Mediterráneo restaurant in Benajarafe (Velez-Malaga) was selected as one of 17 semi-finalists in the “World’s Best Fabada 2022” competition in Madrid.Fabada (Asturian bean stew) is a traditional Asturian dish that is popular throughout Spain. José Luis Navas, manager of the Mediterráneo restaurant, explained that their dish stands out for “the products we use to make the fabada, which come from Asturias”.
The manager went on to say that this is the first year that they have entered the competition. They usually serve fabada on Fridays, and one day, “without prior warning, two members of the jury came to taste it”, notifying them shortly afterwards that they had been selected to take part in the semi-final. Tennis News- Novak Djokovic out of two events due to U.S. COVID-19 travel restrictions: Novak Djokovic withdrew Wednesday from the BNP Paribas Open on the eve of the event, saying he cannot travel to the United States because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19.Djokovic, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, cited regulations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the reason for his inability to play. The U.S. has been requiring foreign visitors to be vaccinated to enter the country.
Djokovic also will miss the Miami Open, which gets underway later this month. Both tournaments are Masters 1000-level events.
“While I was automatically listed in the [BNP Paribas Open] and [the Miami Open], I knew it would be unlikely I’d be able to travel,” Djokovic said in a tweet Wednesday. “The CDC has confirmed that regulations won’t be changing so I won’t be able to play in the US.”

DuckDuckGo Search Engine Adopts Censorship- Will ‘Down-Rank’ What It Decides Is ‘Disinformation’: Popular privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo, commonly considered an alternative to Google, has announced that it will be “down-ranking” sites associated with “disinformation,” along with adding “information boxes” to “highlight quality information”, a popular tactic applied by Google for years to reduce user access to content it considers objectionable. The announcement received widespread backlash from DuckDuckGo supporters, who view the changes as adopting the censorship policies of the big tech Masters of the Universe. FINANCIAL
The rise in electricity prices causes an “unprecedented industrial emergency”: In recent days, companies have suffered an escalation in electricity prices never seen before, reaching an average price of €547/MWh last Tuesday.
Many industries have been forced to stop production, as these electricity prices make it impossible to maintain activity. Companies such as Acerinox, ArcelorMittal, G. Celsa, Megasa, Ferroglobe and Siderúrgica Balboa have already had to stop some of their facilities and, if this trend continues, they will be forced to launch temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) and possible production relocations.
