World Coronavirus Cases: (at 02:30 GMT Thursday, March 26, 2020) According to the latest Worldometer statistics, 471,060, people have been diagnosed with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) around the world to date, compared to 421,413 yesterday.
Of that total, 333,487 are currently infected, of which 14,792 (4%) are in critical condition. Out of the remaining 135,418 cases, 114,218 have recovered or have been discharged, however, 21,281 died from the disease.
According to the World Health Organization, the US and Europe have become epicentres of the virus. The US is now the third country with the highest number of people infected with COVID-19 totalling 66,048 after China (81,285) and Italy (74,386).
Globally, the US also registered the highest number of new cases (11,192), followed by Spain (7,457), Italy (5,210) and Germany (4,332). As the chart below illustrates, China registered 67 new cases for the first time in days, bringing the total number of cases to 81,285. Italy registered the most deaths (683) from the disease in the last 24 hours, followed by Spain (656) and France (231). Spain Stats: (Thursday, March 26, 2020, 01:19 GMT) the number of cases in Spain continues to soar with 49,515 cases counted and 3,647 deaths, more fatalities now than in China. Source: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/spain/
In the last 24 hours, 738 people died from the virus in Spain, a day-on-day rise of 27% the Spanish government reported on Wednesday.
Malaga province: (25 March 2020, 21:06) Cases of coronavirus rise sharply in Malaga, with 154 new cases in one day. The total number of cases went up to 819 on Wednesday with 14 deaths since the previous day. The regional Health ministry has confirmed another significant increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Malaga province, rising from 665 positive cases on Tuesday to 819 on Wednesday. This increase of 154 in 24 hours, even higher than the previous day’s 145 new cases, confirming the turn in trend after the increase in cases appeared to have slowed down over the weekend. This new growth is also reflected across Andalucia, with 539 new cases in a day, raising the figure to 3,010. Similarly, the number of deaths has had a significant rise, with 26 more between Tuesday and Wednesday (113 in total). On the positive side, however, 89 patients have been discharged from hospital in Malaga province and 48 have recovered. In Andalucía, 194 have been sent home from hospital and 71 cured.
UK Update: (Wednesday, 25 March 2020 @ 22:07) 48 coronavirus deaths in the UK in 24 hours. The UK’s coronavirus death toll has jumped from 43 to 465, but England only sees an additional 28 fatalities, down from 83 on Tuesday. Six more deaths in Scotland take the total there to 22, and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said there are 51 people now in intensive care who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or are suspected to have it.
Wales has announced five more coronavirus deaths, also taking its total to 22, and Northern Ireland said its total had increased from four to seven. Source:
‘We are collapsing’, Virus pummels medics in Spain and Italy: The coronavirus is waging a war of attrition against health care workers throughout the world, but nowhere is it winning more battles at the moment than in Italy and in Spain, where protective equipment and tests have been in severely short supply for weeks.
Spain’s universal health care system is a source of national pride and often hailed as a reason for its citizens’ legendary longevity, but the outbreak is exposing its shortcomings, some of which are the result of years of budget cuts.
The country’s hospitals are groaning under the weight of the pandemic: Video and photos from two hospitals in the Spanish capital showed patients, many hooked up to oxygen tanks, crowding corridors and emergency rooms. At the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, patients could be seen on the floor as they waited for a bed in recent days. The hospital says the patients have since been accommodated elsewhere.
On Wednesday, the number of medical personnel infected was nearly 6,500 nationally, health authorities said, representing 13.6% of the country’s 47,600 total cases and about 1% of the health system’s workforce. At least three health care workers have died.
“We are collapsing. We need more workers,” said Lidia Perera, a nurse who works with Núñez at Madrid’s Hospital de la Paz, which has 1,000 beds.
This week, 11 of the hospital’s 14 floors are devoted to caring for those suffering from COVID-19, and there is still not enough room: The patients with less serious cases of the disease are being put in the hospital’s gym or in a large tent outside.
“If you had told me three months ago that I would be working in these conditions in Spain, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Perera said, adding that staff at La Paz are only being tested for the virus if they have symptoms. “If they did (regular testing), they might end up without any workers.” Source: https://apnews.com/7ec91dc45d8d7c2ea86b0a97446a303a
Why is the coronavirus killing nearly twice as many men as women in Spain?: Although both sexes are equally likely to be affected by Covid-19, the fatality rate is higher among male patients, according to a new report from the Carlos III Health Institute. The most common victim is male, above the age of 80 and with previous health conditions – in particular, heart related. Spanish government allows two people to travel in one car – but with strict conditions: The Ministry of Transport has announced two people can travel in one car during ‘State of Alarm’ restrictions – but there are rigid conditions.
Two people can share a private vehicle of up to nine seats, provided the passenger sits in the back, ‘keeping as much distance as possible between the occupants’.
But while the government has relaxed the measures slightly, the reasons for venturing out of the house remain the same, to go to work (which is also subject to conditions), to buy essential food, to go to the bank or the petrol station. The ruling does NOT apply to any leisure or other activity.
The move is outlined in an order from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) published today (Wednesday).
Activities allowed are: to buy food, pharmaceutical products and basic essentials; to visit health establishments; travel to and from place of work or to carry out work; to assist or care for elderly, disabled, minors or dependents and vulnerable people. Also acceptable is travelling to financial and insurance institutions, refuelling at petrol stations and justified ‘unforeseeable circumstances’. Spain publishes list of hotels open for emergency guests during coronavirus lockdown: Only those places that provide long-term stays where guests are self-contained and can meet the general lockdown terms across Spain are allowed to stay open.
However, some hotels will be kept open to help those travellers who find themselves stuck in the country and unable to return to their home country, or those who need to stop somewhere and spend the night on their way home. These selected hotels will above all be available to those who need to accommodation in order to carry out valuable work during the coronavirus crisis, such as maintenance workers and those involved in delivery of essential supplies.
Spain’s government on Wednesday published an exhaustive list of hotels which will remain open. There are over 400 establishments across Spain, located in all regions.

Spain’s National Police Warn Elderly over Stranger Danger: Elderly residents have been told to use extreme caution over unexpected people visiting their homes during Spain’s current lockdown restrictions. The National Police say that they are concerned that criminals may try to take advantage of older members of the community, by calling on them and making false claims about who they are.
They are also worried about phone calls that may be made asking for personal details.
The advice is be vigilant and not to open the door to people who you are not expecting to see, as they might want to get indoors to rob the home or simply con the resident of money. Areas of concern include visits from home delivery companies where a prior appointment has not been made, and people claiming to be health service workers who allegedly offer a Covid-19 test or want to disinfect the property. Other ruses include hawkers of protective gloves and masks allegedly acting on behalf of the local council or medical centre. The police have also warned that some criminals may even look to sell ‘magical cures’ for the coronavirus.
As for unexpected phone calls, residents have been reminded that they should under no circumstances give their personal details like bank account numbers. Source: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/03/25/spains-national-police-warn-elderly-over-stranger-danger/
TrickBot Android Mobile App Bypasses 2-Factor Authentication for Net Banking Services: A new Android app has been discovered that can intercept one-time authorization codes sent to Internet banking customers via SMS or relatively more secure push notifications, and complete fraudulent transactions. Push notification are an automated message sent by an application to a user when the application is not open. While pop-ups appear only when audiences are on the site they belong to, push messages are independent of sites.
When the malware is run, it exfiltrates a wide range of information, including
-Personal device information
-Recording targeted applications for a one-time password (TAN)
To avoid raising suspicion when stealing codes, it activates the lock screen, thereby preventing users from accessing their devices. Specifically, it uses a fake Android update screen to mask its OTP-stealing operations.
And lastly, it comes with self-destruction and removal functions, which allows the cybercrime gang behind TrickMo to remove all traces of the malware’s presence from a device after a successful operation.
“The TrickBot trojan was one of the most active banking malware strains in the cybercrime arena in 2019,” IBM researchers concluded. App developers are working on a solution. In the mean time, closely examine your bank statements for errors.

Are You Cheating on the Lockdown? You are not fooling the gov’t!: Remember, your smartphone tracks and logs all your travels. Your posts on social media have been harvested for advertising. They’ve been taken to build up a massive facial recognition database. Now that same data could be used by companies and governments to help maintain quarantines during the coronavirus outbreak.
Ghost Data, a research group in Italy and the US, collected more than half a million Instagram posts in March, targeting regions in Italy where residents were supposed to be on lockdown. It provided those images and videos to LogoGrab, an image recognition company that can automatically identify people and places. The company found at least 33,120 people violated Italy’s quarantine orders.
Government actions that would be considered privacy concerns in normal circumstances are becoming acceptable during the pandemic. Privacy commissioners around the world have said they are lifting restrictions on data protection standards, citing emergency circumstances and saving lives as a priority. (And you know once a change is accepted there is no going back. Your smartphone is now in full user tracker mode for Big Brother. How long before Artificial Intellegence analyses all your travels and mails you fines for travel violations with absolutely no human review? -Ed) Full article: https://www.cnet.com/news/governments-could-track-covid-19-lockdowns-through-social-media-posts/
Home-bound users fume as video apps do not sync with TVs: Some apps are incompatible with Chromecast. As stay-at-home orders push workouts, concerts and even happy hours online, Volpe and other consumers are finding that some of the most popular services do not work with products from rivals. Apps with surging demand for live streaming such as Zoom Video Communications Inc and Facebook Inc’s Instagram are among major holdouts in adopting the phone-to-TV casting technology from Alphabet Inc’s Google. Others lacking Chromecast support include Apple Inc’s Apple TV+ subscription video service, Twitter Inc’s video offering and Bytedance’s video entertainment app TikTok.
