Malaga Feria is officially cancelled: The Junta de Andalucía regional government has recommended that no fairs or open-air parties be celebrated this summer as part of a new health protocol announced on Tuesday in a bid to avoid a new outbreak of coronavirus in the region. While the final decision rests with the individual municipalities, Malaga city hall wasted no time in declaring that its summer fair, planned for 15 to 22 August, would be cancelled. After bitter debate in Congress, Spain’s PM secures extension to state of alarm while promoting his “transformative” new economic model: Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez took advantage on Wednesday of a debate in the Congress of Deputies to call for support from other parties with the objective of “facilitating the transformation of the economy to another, more sustainable model,” in a bid to deal with the destruction caused by the coronavirus crisis.
Sánchez announced to lawmakers during the session that the Cabinet will next week approve a Royal Decree that will unite all of the measures and health regulations that will be in place as Spain exits the crisis, and that will be implemented jointly with the country’s regional governments until a vaccine against the Covid-19 disease is available.
As the coronavirus crisis has progressed, criticism of the government by the opposition at these debates – which have been held every two weeks during the state of alarm – has grown increasingly fierce. German passport photo scam allows 2 people to use the same passport: Germany bans digital doppelganger passport photos. Germany will outlaw the ‘morphing’ of passport photos, in which pictures of two people are digitally combined, making it possible to assign multiple persons to a single document. Morphing can trick artificial intelligence used at passport control into ‘recognising’ different individuals. The government on Wednesday backed a law requiring people to either have their photo taken at a passport office or, if they use a photographer, have it submitted in digital form over a secure connection, spokesman Steffen Seibert said. Madeleine McCann Missing Child Case Update: British police said Wednesday a German man has been identified as a suspect in the case of a 3-year-old British girl who disappeared 13 years ago while on holiday in Portugal. The Metropolitan Police did not name the man, but said he is 43 and was in and around the Praia da Luz resort area on the Algarve coast at the time Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007.
Police said the suspect, described as white with short, blond hair and a slim build, was linked to a camper van pictured in the Algarve in 2007 and was believed to be in the resort area in the days before and after May 3 that year. He is in prison in Germany for an unrelated matter. PHOTO:AP
