Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.
Presently we have some specials, which include free shipping to numerous locations.

Andalusia remains at 1,000 Covid cases per day: {Translated in full from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 06/04/2021, 13:48
-The number of Covid infections in Andalusia remains at around a thousand confirmed cases daily. This Tuesday, the Regional Ministry of Health reports 1,008 new positives registered in the last 24 hours and 34 deaths.
-These figures are similar to those of recent weeks but do not prevent an increase in the 14-day incidence rate to 156.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The 7-day rate, however, fell to 70.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, marking a positive outlook in the progression of the fourth wave of the pandemic.
-The average distribution of infections during the last week is 1,164 cases, while mortality gives a measure of 14 deaths per day in the last week.
-During the last 24 hours, Seville is the province with the most infections, with 241, followed by Malaga with 172, Granada with 139, Cordoba with 133, Cadiz with 91, Almeria with 88, Huelva with 73 and Jaen with 71.
-In terms of deaths, Malaga has eight, Granada and Almeria six each, Jaen and Seville four and Cordoba and Cadiz three, respectively. The 34 deaths this day are 17 more than those recorded a week ago.
More hospitalised patients
-On Tuesday, Andalusia recorded 1,300 patients hospitalised for coronavirus, 82 more in one day, the highest increase since Tuesday 2 February (197), of whom 284 are in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), two more than on Monday. The statistics show an increase of 270 hospitalised and 41 patients in ICU than a week ago.

PM Sánchez announces that the state of alarm will end on 9 May and is confident that 33 million people will be vaccinated by August: {Translated in full from eldiario.es}
(Clickbait Headline Warning: According to native Spanish speakers I consulted, what Sanchez actually inferred in his speech is he hopes the State of Alarm will not have to be extended past the May 9th expiration date, and at this time has no intention of requesting an extension. But most news sources are wording headlines saying Sanchez “announced the end of the State of Alarm” as if it is a done deal, without giving the context. -Ed)
-Vaccines, optimism, confidence, economic recovery, reconstruction? The beginning of the end of the pandemic is near, according to the speech that the President of the Government made at La Moncloa at the end of the Council of Ministers. Pedro Sánchez reappeared in his most enthusiastic version before the COVID-19. The last time he was seen on 26 February on the steps of the presidential complex and to report on the outcome of a European Council. Today he has done so, on the eve of an election campaign in Madrid, to announce a rain of vaccines to irrigate Spain, which will speed up the rate of vaccination and, according to his “most conservative” estimate, have 33 million Spaniards immunised by August. He also made it clear that the government has no intention of extending the current state of emergency beyond 9 May.
-“The aim is that it will not be necessary to extend the state of alarm. We want 9 May to be the end point of the state of alarm,” he said, delegating to the Interterritorial Council, where the Executive and the communities are represented, the management of any resurgence that may occur beyond that date.
-The calendar advanced by Pedro Sánchez foresees that in the week of 3 May there will be 5 million compatriots vaccinated with the full schedule and 10 in the first week of June. “In total we have contracted more than 87 million doses between April and September. This will allow us to ensure that any compatriot can be vaccinated in that period,” he insisted.
-The president took the opportunity to reproach the Community of Madrid and its president for having sounded out last February, according to ABC, the purchase of the Sputnik vaccine, with intermediaries of the Russian product, outside the European circuits. In this sense, he asked for seriousness, loyalty and solidarity from the tenant of the Puerta del Sol, but not before recalling that the serum that Ayuso tried to buy is still being evaluated by the European health authorities and does not, therefore, have Community validation.
-Beyond that, the head of the Executive said he was sure that we are “at the end of the nightmare” and predicted that “there is less left, much less than we could have imagined in the hardest moments of this calamity”. Even so, he called for people not to lower their guard and to make a final effort, despite the “fatigue and impatience” that he understood a majority of Spaniards are going through. Britain’s daily Covid deaths fall by two-thirds in a week while cases plunge by 40% to 2,379: Britain’s daily coronavirus deaths have fallen by two-thirds in a week while cases have plunged by another 40 per cent, official figures revealed today.
-Department of Health bosses recorded another 2,379 positive Covid tests, with the rolling seven-day average for infections now at the lowest levels since mid-September. And 20 victims were added to the official tally, meaning the UK has now gone a fortnight without registering over 100 daily deaths.
-Figures today also suggested that 10 per cent of adults in Britain have now been fully vaccinated against Covid, while 60 per cent — or 31.6million — have had their first dose.
-The promising data came as Boris Johnson today insisted England was still on track to end lockdown by summer. He said that he couldn’t ‘see any reason for us to deviate from the road map’, which will see all legal restrictions on social contacts abolished by June 21 as part of the final phase of the four-step route out of the crisis. These are the new fines of DGT for not wearing a mask inside the car: {Translated in full from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 06/04/2021 18:22
The Spanish government is getting (more) serious about the use of face masks in both the public and private sectors. This is made clear by the new fine for not wearing a mask in a private car.
This is established by law 2/2021 of 29 March, which refers to the urgent measures of prevention, containment and coordination to deal with the health crisis caused by Covid-19. On the basis of this regulation, the DGT has imposed stiff penalties for anyone travelling with non-cohabitants and not wearing a face mask in the vehicle.
The new DGT fine for not wearing a face mask can lead to a withdrawal of points on the driving licence and a financial penalty ranging from 80 to 500 euros.
What types of fines are there?
The amount of the fines will vary depending on the seriousness and type of the offence. The authorities will be able to sanction the following behaviours:
– If the mask is not being worn while travelling with non-cohabitants, the fine would be 100 euros without withdrawal of points for the driver. This penalty will also apply if there are more than four people in the car.
– If the driver removes the mask while driving, the penalty would be 500 euros and the withdrawal of six points from the driver’s licence.
– If the mask is hung on the rear-view mirror of the vehicle, the fine is 80 euros and no points are deducted.
As with any rule, there are exceptions. According to the regulation, exemptions from wearing a mask inside vehicles are for “people who have some kind of illness or respiratory difficulty that may be aggravated by the use of the mask or who, due to their disability or dependence, do not have the autonomy to remove the mask, or who have behavioural alterations that make its use unfeasible”.

AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccine Has ‘Clear’ Link To Rare Blood Clots, European Public Health Official Says: There is a “clear” link between AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine and rare blood clots in the brain, a senior official from European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in an interview published Tuesday, stressing that the benefits of the shot still outweigh any possible risks, a line the EMA, World Health Organization and a number of other regulators have held while many European countries suspended or restricted the use of the vaccine.
