COVID-19
Covid Spain- 30% of the population live in municipalities where the increases in cases: {Translation, summary} Updated: 8 June 2021, 21:30
– The pandemic continues to subside in Spain but at a slower rate than in previous weeks. And although the general trend is good – cases have fallen by 5% in the last seven days, hospital pressure is decreasing and vaccination is progressing at a good pace -, the rise in infections now affects 30% of the population throughout the country. In addition, fifty major cities are at high or very high risk of infection, with incidence rates above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days. The worst incidences are concentrated in the Basque Country, La Rioja and Andalusia, and to a lesser extent also in Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León. The situation in Andalusia stands out: 5 of the 10 most affected large cities are in the Andalusian region.
-Among the 50 large cities where infections are on the rise (5 more than last week), the situation in Antequera, in Malaga, is of particular concern. There, cases have skyrocketed due to an outbreak associated with nightlife (infections are up +319% in two weeks), and it is the city with the worst incidence in the whole country, close to 600 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Lucena (Córdoba), Ibiza and Zamora, infections have also multiplied, although their incidence rates are still below 150 cases, so transmission is not yet out of control. But it is in Huelva, Arrecife, Portugalete, Santurzi and Bizkaia, which have exceeded the extreme threshold of 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks.
-At the other extreme there are 12 large cities that are in what the ‘traffic light’ of Health considers ‘new normality’: less than 25 new infections in two weeks. They are Paterna, Mislata and Alzira (Valencia), Orihuela, Dénia and Benidorm (Alicante), Calvia (Balearic Islands), La Orotava and Arona (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Telde (Las Palmas). The latter municipality has not registered a new case of COVID-19 for 18 days, so its incidence rate in 14 days is 0.
-Confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to decline in 711 municipalities where 42% of the Spanish population lives (last week it was 51%). They are rising in 543 where 29% of the population lives (last week it was 22%) and are in a plateau phase (staying more or less the same as a fortnight ago) in 105, where 12% live. The rest are very small municipalities where very few cases are recorded – less than 5 every two weeks – or for which no information is available – representing 17% of the Spanish population.

The Axarquia reported 9 new cases Covid-19 by 46 new cured: {Translation} The data provided on Wednesday 9 June by the Ministry of Health of the Andalusian Regional Government confirmed a total of 8 new cases of coronavirus infection in the Axarquia region, with 46 people who have managed to overcome the disease and no deaths. In addition, Totalán is once again a coronavirus-free municipality, as the only person still suffering from the disease in the town recovered on Tuesday.
The new confirmed cases have been reported in Nerja (3). Rincón de la Victoria (3). Vélez-Málaga (2) and Torrox (1). The people who have managed to overcome the disease in the last 24 hours are located in the municipalities of Vélez-Málaga (16). Frigiliana (7). Perdiana (5). Colmenar (4). Algarrobo (3). Rincón de la Victoria (3). Riogordo (2). Benamocarra (1). Nerja (1). Sayalonga (1). Torrox (1). Totalán (1) and La Viñuela (1).
With these data, up to ten municipalities in La Axarquía are to date without active cases of coronavirus in their municipalities. These are the towns of Almáchar, Árchez, Arenas, Benamargosa, Canillas de Aceituno, Canillas de Albaida, Cútar, Macharaviaya, Sedella and Totalán.

Malaga has 216 cases of coronavirus infection on a day with no deaths and 268 people cured of the disease: {Translation} Updated: 09 June, 2021, 13:52
-The province of Malaga has not managed to reduce the two hundred daily cases of coronavirus infection, although the fourth wave of the pandemic has been contained, in the so-called plateau phase. On Wednesday, the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health reported 216 cases in a day in which 268 people were cured, with no deaths to report.
-There has been an increase in the number of new infections compared to the previous day, but it is very slight (10 more cases), while compared to the data from just a week ago there has been a decrease, but also very slight (12 fewer). Therefore, the pandemic continues to stagnate in its evolution, a situation that has been dragging on for more than a month, with constant ups and downs in the curve, which is not falling as would be desirable.
-Thus, the incidence rate in the province of Malaga continues to stabilise after the upturn in the first few days of June. Specifically, it stands at 161 cases of Covid per 100,000 inhabitants accumulated over the last 14 days, just three tenths of a percentage point higher than yesterday, meaning that the province remains at high risk for coronavirus, which is between 150 and 250 incidence. The increase in this indicator compared to the first day of the month is 23 points.
-For its part, Malaga city has reduced its rate from 145.4 to 144.5 according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography. Likewise, the incidence has risen in two health districts: Costa del Sol, from 158.9 to 166.7; and Valle del Guadalhorce, with 203.5 (202.8 on the previous day).
-In the rest it decreases: La Vega de Antequera, which continues with the highest rate of the province with 302.2 (323.1 on Tuesday); the district Malaga, which drops almost one point, from 137 to 136.1; as well as Axarquia, which continues with the lowest rate, with 99.3 (102.9 the previous day) and Serrania, which has an incidence of 163.6, almost ten points less than the previous day.
-With regard to the pressure of care, the hospitals in Malaga have experienced a slight relief, with seven fewer patients bedridden. As of today, according to data updated by the Junta de Andalucía, 102 patients remain in hospital due to the coronavirus, of which 17 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In addition, there have been 15 new hospitalisations and two admissions to the ICU.
-On the other hand, the number of positive and cured patients are once again similar, although this Wednesday the number of recovered patients is higher than those infected after several days in which it has been the other way round. Specifically, 268 people have overcome the disease in the last few hours; and in total, in these almost 15 months of the pandemic, 97,737 patients have overcome the disease.
-Once again, a positive aspect of the report provided by the Regional Ministry of Health is the number of deaths, as deaths due to Covid have been significantly reduced since the vaccination process began. No fatalities have been reported this Wednesday, although eight people have died in Malaga in the last nine days of June. The number of deaths has risen to 1,653 in the province. The settlement was first reported by Sky News on Wednesday afternoon and it has also been reported that any club which signs up to a similar project in the future will be liable to a penalty of £25million, as well as a 30-point deduction. US loosens travel warnings for over 30 countries including Spain: Following the update, dozens of countries have moved from level 4 (“do not travel”) to level 3 (“reconsider travel”). This means that the situation is not yet ideal for people who are not immunized. The list of countries includes Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Canada, South Korea and Singapore, among others, according to the US State Department website.
A few weeks ago the European Union announced it would allow fully vaccinated visitors from the US into its territory. Brussels is now hoping that Washington will reciprocate with a similar decision regarding European travelers to the US.
Spain for its part is letting in immunized tourists from all over the world (with the exceptions of India, Brazil and South Africa) who have received one of the following vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinopharm or Sinovac-Coronavac.
