Cómpeta Art Walk is back on September 17, 18 & 19, 2021 after an 18 month break: This will be the 12th year that this beautiful white mountain village has hosted the Art Walk, with many international artists, sculptors and craftspeople exhibiting in their own homes, galleries or in municipal buildings.
You will get the chance to talk to the exhibitors about their motivation, inspiration and creative processes in their art, and of course to purchase pieces.
All spaces are within a manageable walking distance of each other (some steep roads, this is a mountain village), and can be viewed in one day.
As there will be a 2 hour break from 2.00pm – 4.00pm why not book a table at one of the many wonderful restaurants that are scattered throughout Cómpeta, or indeed make a weekend of it and book your own accommodation.
There will be live music on Saturday night in the main square and possibly other smaller musical events throughout the weekend.
Admission is absolutely free, no need to book (only accommodation and restaurants), so don’t miss out on this fabulous event.
We hope to see you at Cómpeta Art Walk on 17, 18 & 19 September 2021.

Recommendations & Requests

Taxi service: I would like to recommend a taxi service based in Nerja. Manolo and his drivers have far surpassed the normal taxi service. his cars / people carriers are spotlessly clean. They are promptly on time and the helpful service they give is second to none, and he speaks perfect English. Always helping with putting luggage in the vehicle and helping less agile people into the vehicle. His prices are comparable to other services and he is completely legal, well done Manolo and long may you be at our disposal.
Taxi phone number 666910666 /666168756.
Next time you need a taxi to the airport/ train station or the port try him. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Andalusia slowly but steadily descends the fifth wave of the Covid, but 22 more people have died: {Translation, summary} Updated: 12/08/2021 14:35
-Andalusia has 3,669 Covid infections on Thursday. The figure confirms the drop in the fifth wave because there are a thousand fewer positives than on the same day last week, when 4,496 infections were recorded. The community, it should be noted, has not exceeded 4,000 cases per day since the beginning of this week and has remained below 5,000 since 1 August.
-As a result of this drop in infections, the cumulative incidence of the pandemic has fallen to 527.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 15 points less than the previous day.
-There is still no improvement is in the number of deaths, which remains at a record high, due to the peak of the fifth wave, which was surpassed a couple of weeks ago. Thus, 22 deaths have been recorded this Thursday. Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine- rare blood clot syndrome has high mortality rate, and more than a fifth of hospitalised patients with Covid have evidence of blood clots: Although extremely rare, a blood clot syndrome after the first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine carries a high risk of death and can occur in otherwise young and healthy people, UK researchers have found.
In those aged under 50, this blood clot syndrome occur in around one in 50,000 people who have received the vaccine, and that number falls to one in 100,000 in the over 50s, data suggests. But the risk of blood clots is much higher with Covid itself — research shows that more than a fifth of hospitalised patients with Covid have evidence of blood clots.
Researchers examined the symptoms, signs and outcomes in 220 confirmed and probable cases who presented in UK hospitals between 22 March and 6 June. Full article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/11/oxfordastrazeneca-vaccine-rare-blood-clot-syndrome-has-high-mortality-rate

Pfizer’s Covid vaccine is only 42% effective against Indian ‘Delta’ variant while Moderna’s jab is 76% effective, Mayo Clinic study suggests: The highly contagious Delta variant raises fears that it has a unique ability to cause breakthrough cases among those who are fully vaccinated. Some vaccinated people still may be hospitalized, suffer long term negative effects, or even die, from COVID-19. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that vaccinated people who contract the Delta variant release similar viral loads to unvaccinated people, meaning they may be just as able to spread the virus. The Delta variant being able to bypass the existing vaccines also confirms what many feared, that the virus could potentially mutate to a point where it can bypass vaccines. Do covid vaccines affect menstruation?: {Translation}
-In Spain, “up to 18 July, 451 notifications were registered “which included alterations of the menstrual cycle or uterine bleeding”.
-In recent months, several women have confessed on social media to having experienced certain changes in their menstrual cycles after receiving a dose of the coronavirus vaccine. These changes range from acute pain in the back, kidneys and ovaries, heavier than usual uterine bleeding, swollen lymph nodes in the armpits or neck, late or early periods, or even no periods at all.
-One of the people who has suffered these problems is Naiara, who told 20minutos.es how her cycle has changed. “The day of the second dose coincided with my first day of my period and I had a lot of bleeding, I don’t think I’ve ever had it like that before”, she confesses.
-Something similar has happened to Hala: “Since the vaccine, my period has been completely changed. My periods are now twice as painful and abundant”.
-Mila, on the other hand, noticed other changes: “Two days after receiving the first dose of the vaccine, I started having severe pain in my kidneys and ovaries, identical to the pain I usually have a day before my period. My periods are usually several days late, but this time it was six days early.
-Like them, many women have experienced changes, and have decided to express this on social media. “In my case, the vaccine has caused imbalances in my menstruation, very strong pains, the desire to remove my entire reproductive system. It is a reality that is affecting us, so at least we should at least be informed about it”, says one user on Twitter.
-Others have confessed that they have had several days of heavy bleeding, sometimes up to a month, and have had to seek medical attention.
-The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), as of 20 July 2021, assures that “a causal relationship has not been established between the reported menstrual alterations and the administration of the Covid-19 vaccines”.
-In Spain, “up to 18 July, 451 notifications involving menstrual cycle alterations or uterine bleeding” have been recorded with the four vaccines currently being administered.
-It is estimated that 29 women out of every million people under 65 years of age suffer from these after-effects following inoculation with the first or second dose.
-EU medicines agencies are investigating a possible link, as such situations have been reported in the US and European countries.
-The University of Granada has launched the Eva Project, an investigation “that proposes to determine whether one or more of these vaccines have an effect on our menstrual cycle”. “The study consists of a series of assessments and records, including a menstrual record, as well as a blood study of hormone values and coagulation factors,” they say on their Instagram account.
Women who have natural cycles (without hormonal treatments) can participate, and if you have not yet been vaccinated or, if you have already been vaccinated, if you have records of your cycle before receiving the first dose and afterwards. DoctorLaptops Tips #93
Websites Blocking Access Due To Ad Blockers
-This is becoming a common problem. You try to visit a website, only to be denied access with a message telling you to turn off your ad-blocker and reload the page.
Often you comply and turn off the ad-blocker, only to find you still receive the same message.
-What they actually want you to do, and which does work, is to fully uninstall the ad-blocker. That is outrageous, that a website thinks they are so important that you should be willing to disrupt your entire web experience and expose yourself to all the online threats, just for them. The only reason they have for demanding you uninstall your ad-blocker is so they can scan your computer for even more info that adds value to the data they are otherwise already collecting. I have a pre-written letter saved to my desktop saying exactly this, that I send to the support team of any website that employees these tactics.
-The attitude today of many websites, and big tech in general, is to do whatever they darn well please with absolutely no concern for average people, and wait to see if there are complaints. If there is overwhelming pushback they may make modifications fearing the loss of visitors, but that is rare, usually they just offer lame excuses. They are so desperate to squeeze every possible penny of income out of a website that they ignore the common decency and respect for visitors most webmasters had 10 years ago. So much so, in fact, that there are now several “alternate internet” projects being developed to prevent these abuses of the average internet user. I’ll provide more info on “alt-internet” sources when they become available to the general public.
-My solution is to have two web browsers installed (Actually I have 6, and use them all for different tasks, one for surfing, another for email, another for IPTV, etc. This strategy prevents any one browser from tracking all my activity.). I have one browser with full ad-blocking and anti-tracking and another without any ad-blockers installed, and if it has built-in ad-blockers or tracker-blockers, I turn those off in that browser’s settings. That way, if I am on my “general use” secure browser with ad-blockers, and I encounter one of the ad-block messages, I copy the address, and open it in the unsecured browser.
-Remember to keep your computers cool in this current heat wave. On laptops I suggest putting a wedge under the back side to lift it a bit and provide room for airflow, as well as having a fan blowing directly on it once the temps reach 28C.
For computer support contact DoctorLaptop on 675993069 (After 11am, missed calls returned asap)
Always include the make and model number in support requests.
