COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia registers more than 13,000 cases of Covid but only adds 7 patients in ICU:
{Translation} 30/12/2021 20:36
-The sixth wave of the pandemic remains on course: infections are growing exponentially but hospitalisations and deaths are growing much more moderately. This is the case this Thursday, when Andalusia has added 13,344 Covid-19 positives but, nevertheless, only records seven new patients in the ICU.
-In the detail of the data, it can be seen how the community records thousands of infections every day. There are many more than those that occurred in the third wave of the pandemic, last January. In fact, more than 13,000 cases have been recorded this Thursday, almost twice as many as at the peak of that time. And yet the pressure on hospitals is a fifth.
-Thus, this Thursday Andalusia has 1,098 hospital admissions, 104 more than yesterday. Although this is a notable advance, it is a far cry from the almost 5,000 that were admitted at the beginning of the year. In the ICUs this reality is even more palpable: today there are 176 Andalusians in intensive care for Covid-19 compared to more than 700 in January. Seven times fewer with twice the number of infections.
-As for the number of deaths, the trend is the same. Although cases are soaring, there is no reflection in this variable. Thus, Andalusia reported six deaths on Thursday, the lowest figure since last week.
-Where the effect of this increase in the number of infections can be seen is in the cumulative incidence. This variable, which was very reliable for monitoring the pandemic in its early stages, before the arrival of the vaccines, is now a good way of monitoring the evolution of cases but not so much as a measure of the risk of the pandemic. In any case, the incidence has risen to 1,093 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday, 589 in the case of one week. Conflicting Info Regarding UK Citizens With Homes in EU Transiting Through France:
-The operator of the Eurotunnel, Getlink, published a tweet regarding France’s new requirements. “Following a French Government decision, on 28/12/2021, unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU,” the statement reads.
-As reported by the Guardian, the French travel guidance has stressed that “nationals of the European Union or equivalent”, together with their partners and children, “who have their main residence in France or who join, in transit through France, their main residence in a country of the European Union” are estimated to have a compelling reason for travelling from Britain through France.
-Authorities in France have announced that Britons who hold a residence permit in another EU country, such as Germany, Spain, or Belgium, will be obliged to present proof of their residence, such as tax forms, a residency permit and similar valid proofs.
-The UK gov’t site says, “The French authorities confirmed on 30 December that UK nationals who are resident in other EU Member States and who have travelled to the UK for the Christmas period will be able to transit France over the New Year period in order to return home to their country of residence.”
