By popular demand, on Oct. 11th at 11 am, Ray Sulivan will present his absorbing and heel-kicking taped musical program that most U3A members, who know him, will not miss! It is entitled ” How Merseybeat conquered America’s pop charts in 1964/65″: Here is what the speaker, Ray Sullivan details about his program: “My talk charts the state of the British pop scene thru to the Merseybeat explosion of 1962/64 and the subsequent British invasion of America, spearheaded by The Beatles and The Searchers. The music has been recorded on c.d. and there are 24 tracks. The presentation lasts just under 2 hours with an interval of approx. 20 minutes. Clapping, singing, and dancing are encouraged and a fun time will hopefully be had by all.”

NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Changeable weather, with the risk of heavy rain and storms in some areas, on the cards in Spain this week:
– Rain could affect a large part of the country but there is still uncertainty about the evolution of an anticyclone centred in the British Isles
– The week has kicked off with the possibility of storms in the mountains of Toledo, central Iberia, Extremadura and some mountainous areas of Andalucía. Yellow weather warnings have already been issued for certain part of Huelva and Seville provinces.
– The experts at Meteored are expecting more instability on Wednesday. “The rain will move from west to east through the centre and southern half of the peninsula, mainly affecting Castilla-La Mancha, inland Andalucía, Murcia, Valencia and the Balearics,” they said. During this operation, the police arrested seven people in the province of Alicante and two in the region of Murcia, where two of them were arrested and are now in custody. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Rincón de la Victoria joins International Bisexuality Day with a day of lectures and music: {Translation}
– The Department of Social Policies and Equality of the Rincón de la Victoria Town Council has announced today various activities to be held on the occasion of International Bisexuality Day.
– The event is part of a series of actions scheduled to take place throughout the year. The second deputy mayor and councillor for the area, Elena Aguilar (Cs), explained that “we are joining this commemoration to show our commitment to social diversity and respect among all citizens”.
– The councillor reiterated “the importance of continuing to work hand in hand to contribute to the construction of a fairer and more diverse society, and that is why we demand a society free of biphobia, which must begin with education and training for citizens in general, and in particular for our professionals in matters of sexual and gender diversity”.
– The activities will take place at the Senior Citizens’ Centre in La Cala del Moral and will start at 17:30 with a conference on communication and LGTIB by the journalist Luis Algoró, and attendees will be able to enjoy a musical performance by the finalist of La Voz, Silverio Belmonte.
– Finally, he insisted that “we must continue to work together with groups and citizens to achieve greater social awareness”, Aguilar said. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/rincon-de-la-victoria-se-suma-al-dia-internacional-de-la-bisexualidad-con-una-jornada-de-conferencia-y-musica/

GIBRALTAR

Gibraltar ensures that the ‘OS 35’ no longer contains fuel or oil in its tanks: {Translation}
– The ship stranded east of Gibraltar since the collision on 29 August, the ‘OS 35’, no longer contains any fuel or lubricating oil in its tanks. This is contained in a note with a statement from the Gibraltar harbour master, John Ghio, who explains that “there are no quantities of bulk oil left on board” the bulk carrier. “All the oil tanks have been emptied of everything that was pumpable,” adds the captain.
– Ghio also indicated that “there is no fuel of any kind left on board” and “certainly no fuel for the operation of any machinery on the ship”.
– It should be recalled that this Saturday the stern of the ‘OS 35’ sank, which, like the bow, rests on the seabed. In this regard, the 112 emergency service explained this Sunday on social networks that there have been no new developments on the Andalusian coast surrounding Gibraltar, where the technicians of the Junta de Andalucía are maintaining their surveillance work with regard to possible spills. UK

King Charles seeks to amend law on who can act as his official stand-in:
– The move would see the Duke of York, the Duke of Sussex and Princess Beatrice all relieved of their duties as official stand-ins for the sovereign, should he be indisposed.
– Under the 1937 Regency Act, the spouse of a monarch and the four adults next in line to the throne can be deployed as counsellors of state on official business. When Queen Elizabeth was still on the throne, those roles were filled by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York, while the Duke of Edinburgh had also acted as one before his death.
– The change in the line of succession means that the new Queen Consort is now entitled to be a counsellor of state, as is Princess Beatrice as the next adult in line.
– Buckingham Palace has long been under pressure to eject Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from their roles and install other working members of the family in their places.
– It is believed that the King recognises the incongruity of having a trio of non-working Royals able to step into his shoes if he is abroad or incapacitated. He believes it’s important to know who’s in charge. That is Evelyn de Rothschild in the photo below, letting then Prince Charles know exactly who is in charge. HEALTH

Denmark Stops Covid Vax For Under 50s:
– The Danish Health Authority expects that the number of covid-19 infections will increase during autumn and winter. Therefore, we recommend vaccination of people aged 50 years and over as well as selected risk groups.
– The purpose of the vaccination programme is to prevent severe illness, hospitalisation and death. Therefore, people at the highest risk of becoming severely ill will be offered booster vaccination. The purpose of vaccination is not to prevent infection with covid-19, and people aged under 50 are therefore currently not being offered booster vaccination. People aged under 50 are generally not at particularly higher risk of becoming severely ill from covid-19. In addition, younger people aged under 50 are well protected against becoming severely ill from covid-19, as a very large number of them have already been vaccinated and have previously been infected with covid-19, and there is consequently good immunity among this part of the population.
– Vaccination of children against covid-19. Children and adolescents rarely become severely ill from the Omicron variant of covid-19.
From 1 July 2022, it was no longer possible for children and adolescents aged under 18 to get the first injection and, from 1 September 2022, it was no longer possible for them to get the second injection. Full article: https://www.sst.dk/en/English/Corona-eng/Vaccination-against-COVID-19

TECH

Who Needs Google? – TikTok is now Generation Z’s preferred search engine:
– Not very long ago, it appeared that Google was so consolidated that it was going to be invincible. But now, members of Generation Z , those born at the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s , are turning their backs on the search engine, using TikTok as a substitute.
– “Before, whenever I had a doubt about something, I immediately went to Google, but now I go to TikTok first, because I trust it more and because of the content’s quality. Only when I’m not convinced, or when I don’t find what I’m looking for, do I use Google… and the truth is, that happens rarely,” admits Rosa Rodríguez, a 22-year-old TikTok user.
– Like Rodríguez, millions of other young people turn to the Chinese platform rather than Google. They prefer TikTok, above all, because of speed, but also because, rather than having to read text, a TikTok video usually sums up info in a few seconds.
– TikTok gives you one minute videos, where they tell you at full-speed something you want to know. For example, with restaurant searches, you can go to Google and find what people think and see four photos, but [on] TikTok, you see videos of people who are in the restaurant, see what they eat, how they eat it, if the environment is pretty or not… these young people are much more used to everything visual, and they’re very lazy when it comes to seeking information.”

Researchers Say It’ll Be Impossible to Control a Super-Intelligent AI:
– The idea of artificial intelligence overthrowing humankind has been talked about for decades, and in 2021, scientists delivered their verdict on whether we’d be able to control a high-level computer super-intelligence. The answer? Almost definitely not.
– The catch is that controlling a super-intelligence far beyond human comprehension would require a simulation of that super-intelligence which we can analyze (and control). But if we’re unable to comprehend it, it’s impossible to create such a simulation.
– “A super-intelligence poses a fundamentally different problem than those typically studied under the banner of ‘robot ethics’,” wrote the researchers. Full article: https://www.sciencealert.com/researchers-say-itll-be-impossible-to-control-a-super-intelligent-ai
