– Summer is officially over and the September Solstice is behind us. But the good times with great Bio Beach programs are still many to come our way! Do you like the Music of the Mid-Sixties?? If yes, then join us in a couple of weeks at Bio Beach on the second Wed. of Oct. for the U3A Bio Beach lectures Series!! By popular demand, on Oct. 12th at 11 am, Ray Sulivan will present his absorbing and heel-kicking taped musical program that most U3A members, who know him, will not miss! It is entitled “How Merseybeat conquered America’s pop charts in 1964/65”: Here is what the speaker, Ray Sullivan details about his program: “My talk charts the state of the British pop scene thru to the Merseybeat explosion of 1962/64 and the subsequent British invasion of America, spearheaded by The Beatles and The Searchers. The music has been recorded on c.d. and there are 24 tracks. The presentation lasts just under 2 hours with an interval of approx. 20 minutes. Clapping, singing, and dancing are encouraged and a fun time will hopefully be had by all.”
– These U3A programmes are free, just order refreshments. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Your cooperation is appreciated.

SPAIN

Consumer associations have pointed their fingers at six food firms for adopting ‘shrinkflation’, a practice that is legal but lacking transparency:
– Shrinkflation. That is the term used when brands reduce the weight of their packs but keep the price the same: in other words, consumers are receiving less of the product but paying as much as they always did. The operation is legal, as long as the weight shown on the label is accurate, but consumer associations are accusing the firms of a lack of transparency.
– Spain’s Consumers and Users Organisation (OCU) has provided some figures about this tactic which is usually associated with a general increase in prices. It says 7% of the 273 products it looked at were subject to shrinkflation. For example, what was an 800 gramme pack of ColaCao drink powder now weighs 760; 500g of Tulipán margarine is now 400g; a two-litre bottle of Pepsi Cola is now 1.75 litres; a pack of Revilla chorizo costing 1 euro contains 65g instead of the previous 80; the 110-gramme pack of Campofrío ham for one euro now weighs 85g and every Activia yoghurt now weighs 5 grammes less.
– Due to this situation, the OCU has reported Pastas Gallo, Danone, Pescanova, ColaCao, Tulipán and Campofrío to the National Commission of Markets and Competition. No response has been received as yet, and the OCU says it cannot rule out reporting more brands and companies as well.
– “Charging the same but giving consumers less is unfair competition with manufacturers who increase their prices,” said sources at the OCU, which has begun a campaign to encourage people to report cases of shrinkflation and hidden price increases when they see them. Two thousand residents of Periana have been unable to consume tap water for a week: {Translation} 24Sept22
– Around two thousand of the three thousand residents of Periana are still a week later unable to drink the water that reaches their homes, due to high levels of turbidity. The problem was detected last Friday, when the low level of the well at the source of the river Guaro, which supplies the main town of the Axarquia municipality, increased the levels of turbidity in the water, forcing the Town Hall to advise the residents not to drink it.
– After a week, two more analyses have been carried out, without positive results. The mayor of Perian, Rafael Torrubia (PSOE), explained on Thursday that the workers are relocating the pumps of one of the two boreholes to try to improve the quality of the water. At the same time, the Consistory is going to purchase new filters to treat it. At the same time, work is being done to connect the second borehole, which until last August was used for irrigation, to the supply network. The municipality’s farms have suspended irrigation due to the drought.
– At the same time, the Consistory is working to install a pipeline from the source of the Batán to the town of Periana. These resources, which have hardly diminished, go to the districts of Mondrón, Los Marines, Vilo and Los Parrales. Residents of the municipality have complained to this newspaper that the irrigation of several avocado farms “has overexploited the Guaro aquifer”. Photo: Youtube. Italians expected to elect right-wing government led by Meloni:
– Italians voted on Sunday in an election that is forecast to return the country’s most right-wing government since World War Two and pave the way for Giorgia Meloni to become its first woman prime minister.
– The complex calculations required by a hybrid proportional/first-past-the-post electoral law mean it may be many hours before the composition of a new slimmed-down parliament is known. Even if there is a clear cut result, the next government is unlikely to take office before late October, with the new parliament not meeting until Oct. 13.
– Parts of Italy had heavy rain on Sunday, with the Campania region around the southern city of Naples particularly badly affected. That appeared to have put off some voters, with turnout nationally only around 51% four hours before polls closed, compared to more than 58% at the same stage in 2018. UPDATE 25Sept22 23:07 – Italy’s right-wing, led by Meloni wins election, according to exit polls: A right-wing alliance led by Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party looks set to win a clear majority in the next parliament, exit polls said on Sunday after voting ended in an Italian national election. An exit poll for state broadcaster RAI said the bloc of conservative parties, that also includes Matteo Salvini’s League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, won between 41 and 45%, enough to guarantee control of both houses of parliament.
Italy’s electoral law favours groups that manage to create pre-ballot pacts, giving them an outsized number of seats by comparison with their vote tally. Full results are expected by early Monday. Full article:

SPACE

Jupiter is coming its closest to Earth in decades:
– The gas giant Jupiter is coming the closest it has come to Earth in 59 years this Monday and will be particularly visible because it coincides with another event called opposition.
– When in opposition, a planet is on the opposite side of Earth from the sun, so you could draw a straight line from the sun to Earth to Jupiter, all in alignment. Jupiter’s opposition happens every 13 months. Looking from the Earth, when the sun sets in the west, Jupiter will rise in the east, directly opposite. During opposition, planets appear at their biggest and brightest.
– Jupiter is coming closer to Earth than it has since 1963. Because of Earth’s and Jupiter’s differing orbits around the sun, they don’t pass each other at the same distance each time. When it’s closest on Monday, Jupiter will be about 367 million miles from Earth, according to NASA. At its farthest, it’s 600 million miles away. SCAMS

Hack that leaves some Hyundai, Kia cars vulnerable:
– Some Hyundai and Kia cars and SUVs are missing a “key” anti-theft device, and thieves know. An insurance industry group says these cars are stolen at nearly twice the rate of the rest of the auto industry because their keys lack computer chips for theft “immobilizer” systems.
– Chip keys, which started to show up in the 1990s, communicate with another chip in the ignition switch. If they match, the engines will start. If they don’t match, a thief can’t start the engine.
– Keys don’t have an immobilizer system in several lower-priced versions of vehicles from the two South Korean automakers such as the Kia Rio and Sportage and the Hyundai Accent, the institute said.
