Art classes in La Herradura starting again:
I am restarting my art classes. My name is Renate van Nijen and I’m an internationally exhibited artist (for over 35 years) and I’ve been teaching art in Spain since 2006, till Covid put a hold on things. Now, with rules relaxing, but still with caution, I’m offering my art classes again, for a limited number of people – maximum six. I’m also changing my rules. You can pay as you come, provided that you pay a small deposit (PayPal) to secure your space in advance. No more commitment to come every week. There are three options.
1. You can join the in-studio group, four spaces left, in La Herradura on Monday mornings from 10.00 to 13.00. It is a covered studio, so not inside, with fresh air circulating, and two people can work in a lush patio (provided you are OK with friendly dogs). You can either bring your own material or I can provide the materials. https://renatevannijen.com/weekly-painting-classes/
2. Women only group on Saturday morning from 10.30 to 12.30 CET (9.30 start BST). This is an online group which already exists since the beginning of the Covid lockdown. You need to have your own material. Teaching online really works and you are still part of a group and can interact with women from all over the world, whilst sitting in your own house or garden. You will be part of a Facebook group where everyone can share their work. You can pay on a 4-week basis, but you get the first class for free! https://renatevannijen.com/online-art-classes/ . If you have to miss a class you can let me know in advance and come a next time without losing your money.
3. Book your own master class. Get together with a group of friends, minimum four, maximum six) for a great, creative day out. We will work 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. For lunch you can check out one of the seaside restaurants or chiringuitos. https://renatevannijen.com/painting-classes-and-workshop/

Covid- Andalucia Update: {Translation} Updated: 12/05/2021, 18:35
-On Wednesday, Andalusia recorded 1,294 new Covid infections, 72 more cases than on the same day a week ago and 231 more than on Tuesday, confirming a certain slowdown in the slow decline in the incidence of coronavirus in the region. The Regional Ministry of Health recorded 19 deaths on this day, which is four more than the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 a week ago in the region.
-The incidence rate has fallen to 175 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants. The same figure for a week falls to 76 cases, recovering two points from Tuesday’s rise. This data generates confidence in the progressive lessening of the impact of the pandemic in the short term but the ups and downs of the last two days define that we are not in a controlled epidemiological situation but rather in a situation of plateau.
-In the evolution of the incidence rate by province, it is worth noting that all provinces are outside the extreme alert level in terms of one-week incidence rates. Almeria, Cadiz, Cordoba and Malaga already have records of medium risk.
-The number of people hospitalised with Covid is also lower this Wednesday after two days with an increase. There are 1,167 Andalusians hospitalised with a Covid diagnosis, 64 fewer than on Tuesday and 152 fewer than on the same day last week. Of the total 307 are admitted to ICU 15 less than on Tuesday and 36 less than last week.

Six indoors and eight outdoors permitted in bars and restaurants in Malaga province from tomorrow: Updated: 12 May 2021, 18:26
-The state of alarm may be gone, but the Junta de Andalucía regional government remains in control of a number of restrictions. As of Thursday, 13 May, new capacity limits will apply in shops, bars, restaurants, cinemas and theatres.
-In Malaga province, which is practically all on a level 2 health alert, the number of people per table in bars or restaurants will increase to six people inside (previously four) and eight outside (previously six). Bar service is also permitted again.
-Only when an area is put in level 1 can this increase to eight inside and ten outside.
*Shops, cinemas and buses*
-The maximum occupancy permitted in shops and hotels will be 75 per cent from Thursday.
-Outdoor swimming pools can be filled to capacity, but indoor ones must be restricted to 75 per cent.
-Culture, one of the sectors most affected by restrictions, will also get some relief, with capacity in cinemas, theatres and auditoriums to increase to 75 per cent.
-Only 50 per cent capacity is allowed during bullfights.
-On buses that go between municipalities, all passengers must be seated and all seats may be used. On short-distance buses, all seats may be occupied and standing capacity must not exceed 75 per cent.
-In sports facilities, 75 per cent capacity will apply outdoors and 65 per cent indoors.
*Religious services and ceremonies*
-Meanwhile, religious gatherings may be held in all types of public or private facilities, whether in open-air or indoor spaces, as long as they do not exceed 60 per cent of their seating capacity.
-Ceremonies are also regulated: wakes and burials are restricted to a maximum of 25 people outdoors and 15 indoors, unless the number of people living together is higher, while participation in funerals is limited to 35 people.
-In civil ceremonies, the maximum permitted capacity is 60 per cent.
*A few still at Level 4*
-Currently, the entire province of Malaga is at level 2, except for Cuevas del Becerro and Almáchar, which remain at level 4, having registered an accumulated incidence of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Covid News- Pockets of the UK have seen sharp rises in cases, here’s where the hotspots are: There are 28 local authority areas in England, 4 in Northern Ireland and 2 in Scotland that have case rates twice the national average.
Nearly half of those areas recorded an increase in infections when compared to the preceding two-week period.
Hyndburn in Lancashire has the highest two-week case rate of 199.9 per 100,000 people. It has seen a 211.5% rise in its case rate. That is one of the largest increases among the places in the country that currently have the highest infection rates.

Greece will be added to the UK’s ‘green list’ in June, says country’s tourism minister – after Spain said Brits will NOT need a test or vaccine passport to enter:
-Haris Theoharis said he was confident Greece would go green on June 7, but added that they were ‘disappointed’ not to be on the UK’s list with Portugal from Monday, May 17.
-Spain announced it will not demand any British holidaymaker presents a covid passport or proof of a negative test on arrival from May 20. But with no sign of the UK adding the country to its ‘green list’ of destinations, travellers will still have to self-isolate for ten days when they get home and at least two PCR tests. Football News- Champions League Final Is Moving to Portugal: Istanbul is in lockdown and England wouldn’t bend on coronavirus travel restrictions, so European soccer’s governing body will take its showcase game to Porto, Portugal.
The final, which will be played May 29 at the Estádio Dragão in the coastal city of Porto, is the biggest day on the European club soccer calendar. It had been scheduled to be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, but that would have ruled out attendance for most British fans of the finalists, since Turkey is on a so-called red list of countries to which travel is discouraged.
