Fewer Covid patients despite the increase in the number of infections in Andalusia: {Translation} Updated: 04/06/2021, 15:58
-On Friday, the number of patients affected by the coronavirus in Andalusia remained below 800 (759). This is 35 fewer patients than the day before. Of the total, 187 are critical patients treated in the ICU. This decrease in the pressure of care marks the positive reading of the Covid statistics in the community in the face of the progressive increase in the number of infections.
-On Friday, Andalusia recorded 1,499 new cases of coronavirus infection, a figure close to the 1,497 cases reported on Friday last week and 140 fewer positive cases than on Thursday. Four deaths have also been added to the Covid death toll.
-The epidemiological trend is therefore identical to previous days and so the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has risen again to 183.4 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants and the seven-day rate has dropped by one point. The two-week incidence rate only fell in the provinces of Almeria, with a minimum of 72 cases, and Seville (233). The highest increase is worse than the maximum recorded for several days in the province of Huelva (285). The forecast for this province is negative, as the one-week rate is seven points higher than half of the 14-day rate.
-This paradox in the evolution of the fourth wave, with more infections and fewer admissions, is the result of the progress of the vaccination process. On Thursday, 122,681 doses were administered in a single day, setting a new record high. A total of 5,095,104 doses of the vaccine have been administered, which is more than 95 percent of those received. 47.5 percent of Andalusians over the age of 16 have already received at least one dose, while 26.25 percent have already received the full course. Covid Spain- Health reports 4,975 new infections and 97 deaths in one day: {Translation} Updated: 04.06.21, 17:24
-The autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health this Friday of 4,975 new cases of COVID-19, 2,215 of them diagnosed in the last 24 hours. These figures are lower than on the same day last week, when 5,482 positive cases were reported.
-The total number of infections in Spain now stands at 3,697,987 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 117.22, compared to 118.29 on Thursday. A total of 55,621 positives have been recorded in the past two weeks.
-This Friday’s report added 97 new deaths, compared to 17 last Friday. Up to 80,196 people with positive diagnostic tests have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to data compiled by the ministry. In the last week, 108 people with a confirmed positive COVID-19 diagnosis have died in Spain.
-Currently, there are 4,135 patients admitted for COVID-19 in Spain (4,298 yesterday) and 1,163 in ICU (1,205 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 395 admissions (432 yesterday) and 486 discharges (605 yesterday). The occupancy rate for coronavirus occupied beds stands at 3.33 per cent (3.47 per cent yesterday) and in ICUs at 12.14 per cent (12.57 per cent yesterday).
-Between 25 and 31 May, the autonomous communities carried out 704,093 diagnostic tests, of which 451,973 were PCR and 252,120 antigen tests, with an overall rate per 100,000 inhabitants of 1,497.24. The total positivity rate stands at 4.82 percent, compared to 4.86 percent yesterday. Source, Spanish: https://www.laprovincia.es/espana/2021/06/04/sanidad-notifica-4-975-nuevos-52632178.html

Minister Darias insists on the obligatory nature of the new Covid rules agreement on the hotel industry for all communities- “If they don’t do it, we will have to make them comply!”: {Translation}
The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, insisted this Friday that the agreement reached between her Ministry and the autonomous communities at Wednesday’s Interterritorial Council on the hotel and catering sector is “obligatory” and, if any autonomous community does not comply with it, they will have to “ensure that it is complied with”. So far, Madrid, the Basque Country, Andalusia and Castile and Leon have shown their refusal to apply it.
In an interview on Cadena SER, the Health Minister explained that the order will be signed and published in the BOE: “From there, we will see what measures to consider”. Asked about the mechanisms to ensure compliance, she said that this would be determined by the legal services. Darias, who said that “it is unacceptable for there to be partisan fighting over health measures”, repeated that the Interterritorial agreement “is the result of previous work” by the autonomous regions and must be resolved through “dialogue”.

Microsoft’s Irish subsidiary paid zero corporation tax on £220bn profit: An Irish subsidiary of Microsoft made a profit of $315bn (£222bn) last year but paid no corporation tax as it is “resident” for tax purposes in Bermuda. The profit generated by Microsoft Round Island One is equal to nearly three-quarters of Ireland’s gross domestic product – even though the company has no employees.
Politicians on both sides of the Irish Sea attacked Microsoft for “unashamedly and blatantly refus[ing] to pay tax” and said the case highlighted why urgent coordinated international action was needed to tackle the epidemic of “unethical, immoral and unjustifiable” tax avoidance by multinational companies.
