Recommendations & Requests

La Farola Restaurant- Torrox Costa: A friend took me out to dinner for my birthday last month. La Farola, which previously was rather expensive, have a new menu and prices have been adjusted down on many items! I had honey baked lamb, for €18. A huge portion of lamb smothered in honey / sweet onion sauce, with veg and potato. Leg of lamb is now only €22! This is lamb that actually tastes like lamb! I certainly recommend giving them a try before the tourists return and prices go back up. -Ed.

A decline of 6% patients of Covid hospitalized in Andalusia for the fifth day in a row: {Translation} Updated: 06/06/2021, 20:00
-The number of Covid patients in Andalusian hospitals has fallen by 6%. Thus, it has gone from 757 on Saturday to 711 on Sunday, which means 46 fewer people, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Families of the Andalusian Regional Government. This decrease in the number of people admitted to hospital in Andalusia is the fifth consecutive day. Of the total number of hospitalised patients, 178 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), five fewer than on Saturday.
-By provinces, Seville has the most Covid-19 patients in hospital: 203, of which 54 are in ICU. It is followed by Granada, with 107 (37); Malaga, with 98 (17 in ICU); 95 in Jaen (21st); 69 in Cordoba (20); 66 in Cadiz (17 in ICU); 54 in Huelva (6) and 19 in Almeria (6).
-As for the vaccination plan, 5.2 million doses have been administered in Andalusia to date. A total of 3.4 million Andalusians have already received at least one dose, while 1.9 million have received the full course. At present, 22.7% of the total Andalusian population is already immunised against Covid, although if only the population over 16 years of age is counted, this percentage rises to 27.2%. In this way, the region has closed its best week of vaccination with 587,394 vaccinations from Sunday 30 May to Saturday 5 June, some 137,000 more than last week, when the previous record was set (450,754).
*Municipalities at “extreme risk*
-Andalusia maintains 156 municipalities in a situation of “extreme risk” for exceeding the 250 cases of Covid-19 coronavirus confirmed in the last 14 days, four weeks after the end of the state of alarm, including two provincial capitals – Granada and Huelva – which repeat for the second week. In total, there are eleven more localities at “extreme risk” for Covid than there were seven days ago.
-In addition, seven of the 156 municipalities in the provinces of Cadiz, Jaen and Seville in a situation of “extreme risk” also exceed the rate of 1,000 cases in the last two weeks, although only two of them have more than 5,000 inhabitants – La Algaba and Cantillana in Seville – the criterion set by the Junta to request judicial endorsement to decree the perimeter closure and the suspension of all non-essential activity.
-According to the latest Covid-19 incidence data by municipalities updated by the Regional Ministry of Health, consulted by Europa Press, Granada continues to be the province with the most localities in its health districts “at extreme risk” from Covid with 40 -one more than a week ago-, followed by Seville with 33 -six less-; Jaén with 24 -one more-; Huelva with 21 -the same-; Málaga with 16 -one more-; Córdoba with eleven -one more-, Cádiz with seven -one more- and Almería with four -one more-.

MALAGA

Success of the march for the environment of the delta of the River Vélez: {Translation, summary} In commemoration of the 5th of June, considered by the UN as World Environment Day, the Society of Friends of the Culture of Vélez-Málaga, together with the Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía (GENA-Ecologistas en Acción) carried out a programmed activity. The activity consisted of a walk through the Phoenician archaeological landmarks surrounding the Delta of the River Vélez
At the starting point, located near the old viaduct over the river Vélez in Torre del Mar, about 50 people gathered, despite the threat of rain, which fortunately did not occur.
At this starting point, the coordinator of GENA-Ecologistas en Acción explained to those present that this was a protest march, in which the aim was to show a total and unreserved rejection of the aforementioned urban development project which would destroy the now protected agricultural landscape of the Vélez River Delta.

UK Minister- Delta Variant of Coronavirus 40% More Infectious, Makes Unlocking More Difficult: The Delta variant of the coronavirus is estimated to be 40 percent more transmissible than the Alpha variant that caused the last wave of infections in the UK, Britain’s health minister said Sunday.
But people who have received two doses of vaccine, should be equally protected against either variant, he added. “That figure, around 40 percent more transmissible, is indeed the latest advice I have,” Health Secretary Matt Hancock told Sky News.
It was the Alpha variant, previously known as the Kent variant, that forced the UK into lockdown in January. Full article: https://www.news18.com/news/world/delta-variant-of-coronavirus-40-more-infectious-makes-unlocking-more-difficult-uk-min-3816290.html
