What’s On

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra!

Saturday August 15 is a National holiday, Assumption of Mary. Supermarkets in Torrox Costa have signs up saying they will remain open. I don’t know what the other shops plan on.
The Christian feast day of the Assumption of Mary celebrates the belief that God assumed the Virgin Mary into Heaven following her death.

Kitty Harri’s Sculpture Garden – Open (almost) anytime by appointment!
Need to get out again- safely?
We are happy to remind you that the Sculpture Garden is open again for your enjoyment, however it is imperative that you contact us for an appointment and details, as this will govern our opening times.
This is to manage numbers and arrival times and ensure your safety but of course there is ample space to maintain as much distance as you need while enjoying the many facets and sculptures around the Garden. You’ll find plenty of shady areas if you need to avoid direct sun!
If we can accommodate you on a Sunday it’s still most likely that your visit will be accompanied by live Chamber Music!
We look forward to seeing you (again!).

Wanted: Premises/ Venue. We are a small English speaking amateur dramatics group, in Nerja, which has traditionally met in the evenings every second week from October to April each winter, although on approximately 4 evenings we put on performances open to our members and the public, on which days we meet all day in order to rehearse, set things up etc. It would be helpful to have occasional occupation also at other times on an ad hoc basis, by arrangement.
We may have to relocate from the premises in which we currently operate and are therefore testing the water for an alternative in or close to Nerja.
Ideally, there should be a small stage, changing facilities and toilets, with room to sit audiences of 50 to 75 ( hopefully occasionally more) and space to store costumes, props and sound and lighting equipment – though that is looking for perfection!
It would be helpful to be able to dispense alcohol and to have basic catering facilities.
We would be very happy to share premises with other users, provided a mutually acceptable timetable can be agreed, or to sublet.
If anyone has or knows of any suitable premises or any person or organisation we might approach about our requirements, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Why are some people protected from Covid-19 without having contracted the disease?: New research suggests that exposure to other coronaviruses that cause the common cold could help develop antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. UK is in the largest recession on record: “It is clear that the UK is in the largest recession on record,” the Office for National Statistics said after gross domestic product contracted by 20.4 percent in the period from April to June.
Around 730,000 workers have been removed from the British payrolls since March. Announcements of job cuts have become a daily occurrence, with department store chain Debenhams axing 2,500 posts on Tuesday. The BoE expects the unemployment rate to hit around 7.5 percent by the end of the year and it forecasts that the British economy will have contracted by 9.5 percent for the whole of 2020. British Business Owners In Spain on the Costa Del Sol & Costa Blanca DEMAND to know what’s going on from Spanish government: After months without any real progress or changes concerned expats who took the decision to move to Spain and set up business have grave concerns and demand to know what plans the government in Spain actually have.
The gov’t stance of a simple ‘no comment’ has left many British expat business owners confused and bewildered as they feel they need to plan for the future; as well as expats, many suppliers to Spain are also duly concerned especially as this morning it was officially announced that Britain has hit a recession. Full story: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/08/12/british-business-owners-in-spain-on-the-costa-del-sol-costa-blanca-demand-to-know-whats-going-on-from-spanish-government/

The tiger mosquito has increased by 70% in Spain compared to last year: The ‘Aedes albopictus’, known colloquially as tiger mosquito, has increased its presence by 70% compared to the previous year during the first semester of 2020, according to data from the Mosquito Alert project with which the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA) collaborates. “High temperatures, heavy rains and the lack of maintenance of second homes, due to confinement by the coronavirus this spring have constituted the perfect Molotov cocktail that has driven the dizzying proliferation of the tiger mosquito this summer,“ they explain in a statement. Low Wages Prevent Young Buyers In Spain From Buying Homes: Youth salaries in Spain need to DOUBLE if persons under 34 are to be able to buy homes.
Young Spaniards should have a take-home salary of 1,935.57 euros per month to be able to buy a home without allocating more than 30% of their income, exactly double (101.41% more) of the salary of salaried employees under 34 years of age. At the end of 2019, only 18.7% of Spanish youth had been eligible.
A young person who wants to buy a house financing 80% of the sale price should be prepared to make a down payment of 4.1 times his annual salary, according to data published by the Emancipation Observatory of the Spanish Youth Council (CJE). In these conditions it would cost about €47,104.
Before the coronavirus crisis, one in five young people with work was at risk of poverty and exclusion social, since they tend to have jobs characterized by precariousness and temporality.
Of the young people who ended up with a job last year, 55.4% did so in temporary positions and, above all, in sectors where the coronavirus has destroyed a lot of jobs, such as hospitality or tourism.
“The purchase of a home has been impossible for a young person for more than a decade,” they explained from the Youth Council. Even the oldest youth, those between 30 and 34 years old, they would have to earn 48.23% more to be able to buy a house. Do Your Windows Updates: Microsoft earlier today released its August 2020 batch of software security updates for all supported versions of its Windows operating systems and other products.
This month’s Patch Tuesday updates address a total of 120 newly discovered software vulnerabilities, of which 17 are critical, and the rest are important in severity.
In a nutshell, your Windows computer can be hacked if you:
-Play a video file — thanks to flaws in Microsoft Media Foundation and Windows Codecs
-Listen to audio — thanks to bugs affecting Windows Media Audio Codec
-Browse a website — thanks to ‘all time buggy’ Internet Explorer
-Edit an HTML page — thanks to an MSHTML Engine flaw
-Read a PDF — thanks to a loophole in Microsoft Edge PDF Reader
-Receive an email message — thanks to yet another bug in Microsoft Outlook
But don’t worry, you don’t need to stop using your computer or without Windows OS on it. All you need to do is click on the Start Menu ? open Settings ? click Security and Update, and install if any new update is available.
Or switch to Linux and forget about this patching flaws foolishness. If Windows did proper pre release testing this would not even be necessary. Instead they rely on the public to report bugs and then Microsoft issues fixes. That is NOT the way this is supposed to work. Users expect a secure system when they buy a new Windows computer. We did not volunteer to be test subjects in an unfinished project, and then to add insult to injury, we pay for the right to do so. Brexit Hotline

The Spanish government has a hotline to answer all queries from Brits living in Spain about the implications of Brexit, in English. Callers can ring 060 when in Spain or +34 902 887060 if calling from abroad and an automated system will offer the choice of either Spanish or English.
You will then be offered a choice of information on the different issues.
The service also offers the option of speaking to an operator for those requiring further information or with a specific query not dealt with by the automated options. Source: https://www.thelocal.es/20200218/spain-launches-dedicated-brexit-hotline
