Interest in Kodi Declines After a Turmultuous Few Years of Piracy Headlines: Streaming sites and IPTV apps now dominate the pirate IPTV market. While there are still plenty of third-party Kodi addons available to facilitate access to infringing content, it now seems that for a number of reasons, the increased interest in Kodi for use as a piracy powerhouse seems to be on the decline.
Taking a look at Google Trends stats from August 1, 2014 (when XBMC changed to Kodi) to the present day August 2020, it appears that the search term ‘Kodi’ reached the peak of its popularity between February and April 2017. Today it’s just a fraction of what it was. Full story: https://torrentfreak.com/interest-in-kodi-declines-after-a-turmultuous-few-years-of-piracy-headlines-200811/
The EU Regulators go from protecting personal data to collecting and marketing your data: In a stunning reversal of their position of protecting your data, the EU’s data governance strategy, the Trusts Project, now promotes data sharing as a civic duty.
The European Union has long been a trendsetter in privacy regulation. Its General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and stringent antitrust laws have inspired new legislation around the world. For decades, the EU has codified protections on personal data and fought against what it viewed as commercial exploitation of private information, proudly positioning its regulations in contrast to the light-touch privacy policies in the United States.
This new strategy represents a radical shift in the EU’s focus, from protecting individual privacy to promoting data sharing as a civic duty. Specifically, it will create a pan-European market for personal data through a mechanism called a data trust. A data trust is a steward that manages people’s data on their behalf and has fiduciary duties toward its clients.
The EU’s new plan considers personal data to be a key asset for Europe. However, this approach raises some questions. First, the EU’s intent to profit from the personal data it collects puts European governments in a weak position to regulate the industry. Second, the improper use of data trusts can actually deprive citizens of their rights to their own data. Amazon Alexa SmartSpeaker Bugs Allowed Hackers to Install Malicious Exploits Remotely: According to a new report released by Check Point Research, the “exploits could have allowed an attacker to remove/install malware on the targeted victim’s Alexa account, access their voice history and acquire personal information through app interaction when the user invokes the installed app.”
“Cybercriminals are continually looking for new ways to breach devices, or use them to infect other critical systems. Both the Alexa bridge and the devices serve as entry points. They must be kept secured at all times to keep hackers from infiltrating our smart homes.” Full story: https://thehackernews.com/2020/08/amazon-alexa-hacking-skills.html
easyJet and Jet2 Continue to Cancel Flights to Spain Up to Late September Bringing Uncertainty to the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca:
The increase in outbreaks across various regions has caused other countries to blacklist Spain and remove it from their portfolio of ‘safe travel’ destinations. Many countries have imposed a quarantine or mandatory PCR test for travellers coming from Spain. This uncertainty has also caused chaos for the travel industry and now flights are being cancelled once again. Some passengers have even had their flights cancelled by Jet2 and easyJet for bookings in late September.

Facebook Could Face €423 Billion of New Fines in Facial Recognition Lawsuits: The class-action lawsuit which was filed in San Mateo Superior Court by Illinois resident Kelly Whalen on August 10 alleges that Facebook and Instagram routinely harvested and shared its users’ biometric data without informing them or asking for consent to collect it.
Allegedly the programme worked along similar lines to an ‘influencer campaign,’ and if someone liked a product under the programme, Facebook generated a news feed endorsement using the person’s name, profile and photo. The lawsuits are based on the fact that they neglected to tell the person their image was being used.
