NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Your cooperation is appreciated.

SPAIN

Why mortgage payments in Spain could increase by up to €120 a month yet property purchases continue to rise:
– The Euribor rate at the end of August was 1.25 percent – its highest value in a decade and a rate not seen since 2012 after long periods of negative values – which could in turn increase monthly mortgage payments by thousands of Euros depending on your rate, length, and type of mortgage.
– Yet, despite the interest rates pushing up the Euribor and by extension mortgage repayments, and the inflation-triggered economic malaise affecting most of Europe, property purchases in Spain continue to rise. The mortgage industry had its best June performance in 12 years, giving out 42,767 loans – 12 percent more than June of 2021, according to the figures from Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE). TORROX

The farmers of Torrox begin to irrigate with reclaimed water from two treatment plants, La Viñuela reservoir expected to totally run out of water for irrigation next month: {Translation}
– The persistent drought that is plaguing the Axarquia region is worsening as September progresses with no prospect of the longed-for rains. Faced with this panorama, the Junta de Andalucía has just a few weeks to communicate the news that nobody wants to read or hear, but which the eastern region is awaiting with resignation. From next October, barring a miracle, there will be no water from the La Viñuela reservoir for irrigation. The little that remains in the reservoir will be reserved for supplying the approximately 180,000 inhabitants of 14 of the 31 municipalities.
– Faced with this apocalyptic and desolate panorama, the irrigation communities are still trying to juggle to keep their farms going. Those who have reclaimed water at their disposal feel fortunate, as a few years ago there were more than a few farmers who were reluctant to use it. GRANADA

Rio Durcal Water System- The ministry of Water adds 200km of channels, improved the 663 previous: {Translation, summary}
– The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development continues to make progress in the cleaning of riverbeds and ravines in order to prevent the consequences of the autumn and winter rains. During her visit to the actions being carried out in the province of Granada, specifically in the Dúrcal river, the Minister Carmen Crespo announced that “the Andalusian Government, as part of its water policy, is going to add 200 kilometres more channels in 2023 to the 663 kilometres already improved, which will take us to a total of 863 kilometres”. In that line of sustainability, the counselor has gone a step further and has pointed out that in the andalusian Government, “we know the restoration of the channels not only help to protect populations as in the case of roads and heavy rains, but that will turn the rivers into spaces of natural living that contribute to the rural world”. Health detects mosquitoes positive for West Nile Virus in a locality in Seville: {Translation, summary} 05/09/2022 17:57
– Doñana Biological Station have informed the Town Council of La Puebla del Río (Seville) of the appearance of some mosquitoes positive for the Nile virus in its municipal district after a series of studies carried out in areas of the marshes.
– In this sense, the City Council stresses that it continues with its fumigation work and the shock plan applied “with the aim of preventing the expansion of populations of this type of mosquitoes in order to preserve the health of citizens”.
– However, at the same time, the Council recommends a series of preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites, such as using mosquito nets on windows and doors; trying not to stay outdoors between dusk and dawn; trying to leave the lights off, avoiding strong perfumes and wearing clothes that cover the skin as much as possible. Liz Truss to Become Next U.K. Prime Minister, Succeeding Boris Johnson: {Updated Sept. 5, 2022 10:47 am ET}
– U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss won the race to lead the ruling Conservative Party and become Britain’s next prime minister, taking the helm of a nation heading into an economic storm.
– Ms. Truss, 47, will formally replace Boris Johnson as prime minister on Tuesday. In the leadership race, she touted herself as a low-tax libertarian who will shrink the British state and revitalize a moribund economy, much like the U.K.’s first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, did in the 1980. “I campaigned as a Conservative and I will govern as a Conservative,” she said after the victory.
– Ms. Truss defeated her rival, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, by 57% to 43%. Some 172,000 Conservative Party members were eligible to vote in the contest, which was triggered by Mr. Johnson’s resignation as party leader in July amid a revolt by cabinet members and top officials following a series of scandals. UK pubs face closure crisis unless price of pint soars to £20, CAMRA chief warns:
– The cost of a pint will need to increase to around ‘£15 to £20’ if pubs are to survive the cost of living crisis without help from the government. That’s according to Tom Stainer, the Chief Executive of real ale campaign group CAMRA, who told the Daily Star that pub landlords are facing a five to six-time increase in their running costs that threatens to put a huge number of venues out of business.
– Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Tom said the costs for pubs were skyrocketing: “We’re seeing pubs where their energy costs are going up by not just a little bit – we’re talking 500% to 600%.” “What you can say with surety is you can’t possibly pass on these energy increases and you can’t increase the pint by 500%,” he said. EUROPE

EU races to help industry as Russian gas halt rattles markets:
– Europe’s gas prices surged, its share prices slid and the euro sank to a 20-year low on Monday after Russia stopped pumping gas via a major supply route, sending another economic shock wave through the European Union as it struggles to recover from the pandemic.
– EU governments are pushing through packages worth billions of dollars to prevent utilities being crushed by a liquidity crunch and to protect households from soaring energy bills, after Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom (GAZP.MM) said it would stop pumping gas via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline due to a fault.
– A host of European power distributors have already collapsed and some major generators could be at risk, hit by caps that limit the prices rises they can pass to consumers or caught out by hedging bets, with gas prices now 400% more than a year ago. OPEC+ stresses the market with the announcement of a production cut of 100,000 barrels of oil per day in October:
– The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, which together form the group known as OPEC+, have decided that their joint production will be reduced by 100,000 barrels of oil per day during the month of October, as reported Monday to the conclusion of a multilateral summit between the members of the coalition.
– This decision means reversing the movement agreed in August, when the group decided to increase production by 100,000 barrels per day during September. The cartel has stressed that the increase agreed a month ago “was only aimed at the month of September.”

A mobile phone app can detect COVID in people’s voices with “potentially high precision” using artificial intelligence (AI), according to researchers: An AI model was said to be 89% accurate and is cheap to use, which means it could be adopted in low-income countries where PCR tests are more expensive. Results can be provided in less than a minute and may be a “significant improvement” on the accuracy of lateral flow tests, scientists said.

Another Huge Cloud Hack?- Alibaba Cloud Data Breach Exposes Over 2 Billion TikTok Users’ Information Say Researchers, TikTok Denies:
– Popular short-form social video service TikTok denied reports that it was breached by a hacking group, after it claimed to have gained access to an insecure cloud server.
– The denial follows alleged reports of a hack that surfaced on the Breach Forums message board on September 3, with the threat actor noting that the server holds 2.05 billion records in a humongous 790GB database. “Who would have thought that TikTok would decide to store all their internal backend source code on one Alibaba Cloud instance using a trashy password?,” the hacking group known as BlueHornet (aka AgainstTheWest) tweeted over the weekend.
– Bob Diachenko, threat intelligence researcher at Security Discovery, said the breach is “real” and that the data is likely to have originated from “Hangzhou Julun Network Technology Co., Ltd rather than TikTok.” Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2022/09/tiktok-denies-data-breach-reportedly.html

MONDAY- Strange lights surprise early this morning crossing Malaga’s skies: {Translation}
– Strange lights have surprised the early hours of Monday 5 September crossing the skies of Malaga. Witnesses from different parts of the province, from Malaga capital to sailors and fishermen from La Caleta de Vélez-Málaga, posted videos on social networks of an unusual sighting. Two intense spotlights crossed the sky at a moderate speed that allowed them to observe them for minutes.
– “We have never seen anything like it”, the sailors commented when they saw the strange phenomenon over the coast of Axarquia. The response came shortly afterwards. The Space Frontier Twitter account had reported that a SpaceX rocket would be launched tonight. “Mission 40 of the year for a Falcon 9 tonight with the launch of Starlinks group 4-20 and one more companion,” explained @FronteraSpacial.
– Liftoff was at 4:09 Spanish time and, according to what they said, the rockets’ launches and re-entries produce this effect and are seen in this particular way in the night sky.
– These phenomena are repeated with some frequency. On 22 June last, the re-entry into the atmosphere of the wreckage of the Chinese CZ-2F space rocket left mysterious trails that were visible from several points in Spain and Portugal, including Malaga. British Pound Falls to Lowest Level Since 1985 as U.K. Economic Pain Mounts: {Updated Sept. 5, 2022 8:38 am ET}
– The British pound slid to its lowest level against the U.S. dollar since 1985, a reflection of the U.K.’s dire economic situation. Investors are braced for sterling to weaken even further to a nadir not seen in more than two centuries of trading across the Atlantic.
– The pound fell as low as $1.1443, the lowest level since 1985, according to FactSet, before recovering to trade up 0.1% midday London time Monday. Sterling’s descent is in part a side effect of the relentless U.S. dollar rally, which has driven both the euro and Japanese yen to multidecade lows in recent days. Spain’s economy moves towards recession on slight growth in services in August, according to PMI: {Translation. MADRID, 5 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS)}
– Business activity in Spain’s services sector expanded in August, although the pace of growth was weak, according to S&P Global’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which stood at 50.6 in the eighth month of the year, down from 53.8 in the previous month.
– “Spain’s economy headed towards stagnation in August, as the services sector followed the trend of the manufacturing sector by registering only marginal growth,” warned Paul Smith, economic director of S&P Global Market Intelligence.
– He warned that businesses fear instability and inflation will affect customers, adding to concerns that the economy is heading for a “winter of challenges and a possible recession”.
– Companies noted that sales both at home and abroad were lower. New export orders fell for the second month in a row and at a steeper pace than that recorded for new orders overall.
– Prices, meanwhile, continued to show signs of “high inflation”. However, the S&P survey concludes that prices paid for inputs such as final prices charged “increased at slower rates”.
– “Fuel, energy and wages remained the main sources of higher prices, which generally increased in August for the 27th consecutive month. However, the rate of inflation maintained its recent downward trend, falling to its lowest level since October,” the firm’s report concluded. Drinking Reclaimed Waste Water In Spain & UK?: {Translation, summary}
– Spain does not contemplate the consumption of reclaimed waste water despite the drought. Spain has the technical resources necessary to produce quality drinking water for human consumption from reclaimed wastewater, a possibility that is not currently contemplated by national legislation and which experts describe as “apocalyptic”, despite the worrying drought. With 26% less rainfall than usual and the reservoirs at just over 35% of their capacity, experts consulted by EFE say that in our country “no apocalyptic situation is in sight” that would make it advisable to make wastewater drinkable and that this would be almost “the last resort” to combat the lack of supply in case of need.
– This is not the case in the UK, which is experiencing one of the driest and harshest summers in its history, to the extent that the authorities have advised the public to be “less apprehensive” about drinking wastewater if necessary in the future to cope with droughts. (Ref: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-62708413 – “Be less squeamish about drinking sewage water, says expert” 28Aug22)
